I requested a room with a view which I received, but was not informed about the live music which was happening that evening or to what time it would end. My room was overlooking the park on the 1st floor. Which also meant I was above the smoking area. The cigarette smoke smell overpowered my bedroom as well as the disturbance of the loud live music and the loud laughter of people in the smoking area.
I requested some earplugs and the gentleman staff on hand wasn't sure what this was but supplied me with toothpaste and a toothbrush. The receptionist was helpful but after looking for the earplugs suggested that he come to my room to let me know if they had any, which I wasn't comfortable with as it was late. Then he suggested taking my phone number and call me instead. Again I wasn't comfortable giving my number out but had to as it was the only way to be updated. There was a card in the room which gave the hotel rules and details and said to dial '0' to speak to reception but there was no phone in the room. He also ended up coming to my room as well. which I wasn't comfortable with as a woman staying by myself.
He helped me to move to a quiet room and allowed me to check this room and it was the only room left as the hotel was busy. I moved to the room, inspected the bed, and found a maggot on the side table to the bed, an unflushed toilet with fecal matter left in it, and blinds and windows that didn't open. these were my options to take a loud room or a messy room. I'm overall displeased with my stay here, I felt very uncomfortable and anxious which led to poor sleep after travelling to a funeral. The final straw was as I went to was my face the water was brown in the sink and after moving to the next room in the morning I went to shower and had brown dirty water coming from the shower also, the receptionist mentioned that they had a plumbing issue which had been resolved but they might be why.

Great location, city centre and utilita arena within walking distance. Breakfast was excellent, overall really enjoyed our stay.

Location
Facilities in the room were not as stated when we booked. No coffee machine or hair dryer, limited tea and coffee available, and the bed was very uncomfortable. Cost of parking has escalated from £12 in 2022 to £21.50.

Good atmosphere, friendly staff, good breakfast.
Noise from the street and the hallway, the room could have been better isolated from noises.

Room was a good size with good facilities such as coffee machine, kettle, iron, flat screen etc.
The location is beautiful, the bar is gorgeous, and the room was comfortable.
There were numerous lights and switches not working. Plug sockets and switches were loose. There was dust on clearly around the room such as on the coffee machine. There were stains on the carpet and a wet patch on the carpet next to the bed.
The shower quite severe lime scale on it.
I feel for the price of the room these issues should not be present.

Excellent staff. Spacious room. Complimentary juice, water and mini prosecco. Games in the room for rainy days. Coffee machine, kettle and iron/ironing board all provided. Aircon that worked well. Sound insulation between floors was very good as we could not hear the loud bar music once in our room, just the noise from outside. There is a small car park on site, although it is privately run and charges £15.50 for a 24hr period but was one of the reasons for choosing this hotel.
Overall it suited our needs for a one night stop for a specific event in the city. I would visit again for another short stay and hope that the shortfalls would have been corrected.
The fridge wasn't working. Because it's an old building (possibly listed) there was no double glazing so the street noise from the bar tables outside was considerable until about 2am (Fri night/Sat morning), although this didn't bother us as we were out late at a concert anyway. The continental breakfast was very poor, there were no pastries left and not a lot else to choose. One of the waitresses said she would get some more but when we asked again 5 - 10 mins later we were told they would be another 20 mins. To be fair they did refund the breakfast charge, but a better selection and organisation for breakfast would have been much better.

Good location, nice public areas. Friendly staff. Good breakfast.
Bathroom not the cleanest. Room OK, but nothing to get excited about. We didn't need it, but the lift was out of order, so disabled guests would have struggled.

great hotel in a lovely square that felt a long way from central Birmingham as it was so peaceful.
nighttime noise from the cars outside picking people up was a problem for me in a bedroom at the front of the hotel.

Location was great, lovely square with church and grounds. Hotel has a good pub at ground floor. No noise in rooms. Rooms clean and comfy.
Breakfast not the best and was charged to park.
Breakfast could be much better and parking should be free.

Location is superb within walking distance of the Bullring, Tabu and other spots. Bar was excellent, good vibe and the bar staff very helpful and attentive.
The one lift was out of order so we had a decent flight of stairs to navigate with our luggage. We were told that it’s been broken for months but they issues getting an engineer to fix it. Given it’s the only lift you would hope it would of been a priority.
The other gripe was the mattress, rock hard, it gave me back ache and less than comfortable.

Unique nature of hotel and location were ideal. Good atmosphere on arrival. Breakfast was very nice.
Lift wasn't working, The room wasn't warm and the bed was not very comfortable .... little on the old side, I suspect.

We were moved to another room after the first night because the noise from the kitchen fan disturbed our sleep, the view wasn’t particularly nice of the flat roof and fans though. The second room faced the Square which was much better and was quiet. Two small bottles of Prosecco were complimentary.
The pillows were a little flat and firm for me, I usually take my own but forgot.

The hotel is well-located, situated opposite a pretty square. The bar/restaurant area looked really nice (although I did not eat here). There was a nice atmosphere downstairs when I arrived.
My room had a really unpleasant smell. I arrived late and so decided to just accept it and go to sleep! However, after about half an hour in my room I noticed that I was absolutely freezing and the room didn't seem to be warming up. A quick call down to reception and I was told "the heating is on, and I'm a bit busy to help right now. I might come up later". I was really disappointed with this level of service. With no heating, and a duvet which was honestly as thick as a piece of rice paper, I ended up sleeping in thermal PJs plus all of my clothes on top. The heating kicked into gear around 8am the next morning. I understand that heating is expensive at the moment, but the room had not even been warmed up prior to my arrival, and the duvet was not fit for purpose! It was incredibly uncomfortable and the rudeness of the staff means I will not be retuning.

very clean property. good shower with plenty of hot water . Reception staff were efficient and friendly .Service felt personal . We opted for breakfast at the hotel and we’re not disappointed . We were going to the Jam house in the evening and it was a great location for this. The hotel bar / restaurant was very buzzy in the evening and the person we were with could hear it a bit from his room which didn’t matter to us as we were going out. We enjoyed the liveliness for a pre show drink By the time we got back it was all quiet . We on the first floor and could see from reviews that the lift didn’t work so that wasn’t a problem for us we didn’t have a lot of luggage but staff would help if needed .

Location is nice on St Pauls Square and communal areas are well-appointed.
VERY LOUD MUSIC NOISE from the bar area, going on until 01:30 in the morning.
We paid extra for a premium room and were checked into room 112 on the first floor overlooking the rear car park and the bar area that extends to the rear of the hotel. When we arrived the bar area was lively, even at 7pm. We went out for our dinner reservation at 7:30, returning at around 10:45. The bar area was VERY lively when we got back, with folks dancing in the aisles to the load music. Surprizing but not a problem.
When we got to our room we realized that there was literally no sound insulation to our room and the load music from downstairs was almost shaking the room.
At that time of night, we expected it to be short-lived and anticipated the music and noise would end before too long. As it was, it didn't go off until 01:30. So we had to lie awake until then.
The following morning I complained that we shouldn't have been checked into that room without being warned that it would be noisy into the small hours. The receptionists response was to tell me that it does say on the hotel website that there is a "lively bar". So it was our fault for not reading the website! Not impressed at all. We were given our breakfast (£10 per head) off the final bill by way of an apology but to be honest, we should have been offered much more than that.
The premium room was not of a high standard; there was mould in the shower tray and the home-made bed was tucked into an alcove which meant it could only be accessed from one side. I could have put up with all that, but for the noise.

Clean, comfy bed, good location, great parking, bar serves nice food and has a reasonable drinks selection, great size rooms with everything you need, easy to get to by train or by road, complimentary drinks in the room, quiet. Saints cafe bar over the road does amazing food and I enjoyed an evening meal at the hotel too.
I've stayed here before and never had any issues but was a bit disappointed by how disorganised things seemed to be this time.
The staff were super friendly and helpful and chatty throughout my stay but I still had two issues.
I went out late one night and before heading out checked whether the main doors got locked and whether I'd need to use an alternative entrance. I was told the doors were opened all night. When I got back the doors were locked and I had to walk round the the building in to unlit areas to get someone's attention, which isn't ideal as a lone female traveller in an unfamiliar city.
The hotel accidentally duplicated the payment taken by booking.com meaning I paid for the room twice. I tried to engage in a phone conversation with them about this with no joy, so had to take the time to compile a large email of evidence to get it resolved. The hotel did issue a full refund and apology but it's annoying to have to check everything and dispute stuff in detail rather than it being done correctly.

Greeted by Amelia who checked us in,very friendly and extra helpful, even helped us to pay the clean air charge.she asked us why we were in bham and after telling her we were celebrating a 70th birthday a bottle of fizzy was delivered to our room. Convenient location for Central bham and good value for money.

Fantastic staff. Very helpful. Great location. The hotel looks fabulous.
The rooms are a good size and tastefully decorated. The beds were fine. A decent coffee machine was also provided.
Car parking was £15. We had two cars! Customers should not be charged as much as that.
The pictures of the hotel show gowns, but none were provided. The water pressure in the shower could have been better.

The bar and lobby. And the location.
The room smelled like people had smoked in there in the past. When I told the receptionist, he looked at me as if to say "Oh? And?". He wasn't rude, but it was like he couldn't comprehend the prospect of someone smoking in the room.

lovely hotel room and great price
when the bar closes at 11pm why will you not serve a hotel guest a drink at 10.35pm? usually last orders happen a lot closer to the time of closure at a bar so unsure why it was so early last night
the only negative but was a shame that we had to go elsewhere to get a drink when we actually had plenty of time
