Established in 2005, our guest book speaks for itself. Featuring 3 bedrooms - 2 with double beds and the 3rd with 2 singles, a country style kitchen and two new federation style bathrooms, one with a claw foot bath, Solitary Retreat has been returned to a time when a weekend in the mountains was a stylish and considered experience. Characterized by its living room with original cedar paneling, polished boards, Persian carpets and open fire, Solitary Retreat is a snapshot of life in the 1920's. Immerse yourself in the ambiance and delightful charm that this elegant home and its beautiful furniture creates. Features And then there is the view.Solitary Retreat is blessed with one of the very few genuine uninterrupted escarpment views on the Cliff Drive. Enjoy Mt Solitary and the Jamison Valley with your morning "cuppa" from bed. When you have finished savoring the view, stroll across the road to the Prince Henry Cliff Walk and take a leisurely 30 min walk through the World Heritage listed national park to the Three Sisters and Echo Point or go the other way to Leura Falls and enjoy some of the best views the mountains have to offer. We are only a couple of minutes drive from several golf courses, walking distance to galleries and the tourist bus stops right out front. Great location, 10 mins to walk to supermarket, with trails & incredible view just across the road. Comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, all wonderful. Our only issue was no wifi, which was a big deal for teenagers!

What a wonderful house in a great location to base our Blue Mountains explorations. Plenty of space for the whole family to spread out after a long day exploring. July may not be the best time to visit the Blue Mountains, but with heated blankets and the option of a warm fire, this place is ideal even in winter.

Sensational stay for a two day get away. The central heating kept us warm and cosy. The linen was exceptional and Kym and Sue had provided everything to make our stay special. The location was close to most of the attractions that Katoomba has to offer. I would recommend this stay highly and would definately stay here again.

Very comfortable home with a lot of style and just a few steps from a spectacular Blue Mountains view. Good restaurant with that same view literally next door. Hiking trails a short distance away. Very cute town to explore. We would love to come back and spend more time.

Fabulous cottage. Lovely dining and sunroom looking onto backyard. Front verandah great views across valley. Cosy and warm. Double beds firm and a bit tricky for taller people. The one in the front room is quite high. I'd stay again.

My daughters and baby grandson stayed at the cottage whilst attending the Leura Garden Festival. We were very happy staying there. Convenient location with amazing views, very comfortable and a beautiful house. It had everything we needed including lots of board games which we enjoyed playing in the evenings. We highly recommend it.

Kym's house is a lovely place to stay. Beautiful solid timber furniture, gorgeous heritage decor and wonderful views. Central heating and electric blankets makes it a warm cosy house. Check in and out is easy. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Katoomba. Such a lovely place.

We had a wonderful stay, the period details to the furnishing in the house were stunning. Lovely stocked kitchen and open plan kitchen/ dining room made for enjoyable family meals. Plenty of off-street parking and easy access to tourist sites. It was cold while we were up there so we enjoyed using the fire in the lounge and excellent wood supplied by the hosts for a small extra charge, great ambiance in the evenings. Also very good electric central heating that heated the house well. Will definitely recommend this lovely home for others.

Solitary Retreat is a beautiful house full of period features. Our kids loved the house and garden. The location is quiet and so close to walking trails, with a beautiful view from the front deck. We loved being able to walk across the road and hop straight onto the walking trails. The house is very well equipped with everything you could need including special touches from the hosts such a fresh flowers on arrival. Would highly recommend.

What a wonderful property ! So very clean , spacious and warm. It was great to be able to stay at a property that my 92 year old parents could easily access due to no steps at the back door, a standing shower with only a low hob, night lights and a lovely sunroom as an extra living space. The furnishing were of a high standard and it was just delightful to imagine how people lived in this house when it was originally built while the renovations of bathrooms and the kitchen provided a great marriage of the nostalgia of yesteryear with modern day conveniences . The view was delightful and the morning sun on the wrap around verandah provided a lovely coffee spot. The kitchen was well equipped and the communication with the host was effortless, as was check in. Can’t wait to return !
