By the beach

Great place, you turn the corner and you're already on the beach. Very comfortable room, with a large bed and a terrace with chairs. Hot water and a well-functioning fan. The service was very nice and helpful. I highly recommend this place!

Excellent

Great location , 2 mins from beach and 10 mins from town. Loads of bars and restaurants nearby. Mamas place books tours, arranges transportation and does laundry. Staff are great. Rooms are large with large bed, good sized shower room and balcony with sea view .

Durschnittliche Unterkunft zu hohem Preis

Das Zimmer war sauber, das Bad war moderner als ich es von Hostels in Sri Lanka gewohnt bin. Es gab einen Balkon mit Hängematte und von dort konnte man das Meer zumindest stellenweise sehen. In 2 min war man entspannt am Strand, in 5 min im Zentrum. Lage ust also top! Es gibt einen Wasserkocher. Das Bett hat ein intaktes Moskitonetz, das Bett ist bequem, Klimaanlage funktioniert. Es gibt ein angrenzendes gleichnamiges Restaurant.

Die Kommunikation mit den Gastgebern fand quasi nicht statt, es war der unpersönlichste Aufenthalt für uns in Sri Lanka. Der Preis ist für einen derart einfachen, wenn auch sauberen Standard viel zu hoch. Es ist halt die Lage zum Meer, die den Preis wohl rechtfertigt. Es gab im Zimmer kaum Ablagemöglichkeiten, keinen Schrank. Es gab nur 2 Steckdosen. Das WLAN war extrem langsam, man konnte auch drauf verzichten. Schade! Im Restaurant bestellten wir am ersten Abend Grilled Chicken, es kam leider teilweise roh. Auf Nachfrage wurde uns gesagt wir hätten boneless bestellen sollen, dann passiert das nicht. Aber das war ein schwaches Argument. Schließlich muss auch ein Grilled Chicken mit Knochen durchgegart sein. Wir haben es beanstandet und ein neues Essen bekommen. Das war auf jeden Fall positiv! Aber es war kein Grilled Chicken, es war gebratenes Huhn in ganz viel Soße. Wieder schade! Wegen der Lage ist abends/nachts viel los. Es ist dann lange sehr laut, teilweise wummern Bässe vom Strand. Für uns war das kein Problem, aber man sollte es vorher wissen und Ohropax dabei haben. Insgesamt ein durschnittlicher Aufenthalt, Preis-Leistung passten nicht für uns.

Worth the stay!!

We stayed for a day and really liked the staff. They were quite friendly and even opened kitchen once again at night after closing since it was late for us to have dinner anywhere else. The room has been set up quite pretty/ pleasant to see and hotel is just next to beach.

They forgot to provide us with the blankets. :P

Everything good excellent,👌location. Very beautiful beach right next to our room. Staff was very friendly. Food was good. They were able to arranged us nice extrusions at very good price at short notice. We had the best time at Mama's place Mirissa.

Lovely Familybusiness

Very nice Place. Everyone is very kind and friendly there. The rooms are really good and "Mama" cooked delicious Sri Lankan Food for us. Also it's next to the beach (just one minute to walk) and they have a nice chill area.

Right on the beach, you can watch the surfers from the balcony. Big room with a good shower and a huge balcony (I think it was the only one with such a big balcony, though). The staff were relaxed and helpful.

The beach is also a party area at night and it can get pretty loud--not Mama's Place, but the other bars are close enough to hear the music when it gets really loud on the weekend. But that's something that goes with a perfect location I guess.

Lovely beach holiday times :) Fun in the sun!

Really nice little place tucked away near the southern (surfing zone) end of Mirissa beach - you can hear the waves lapping from your room. Rooms have good fans and good mosquito nets. Lots of nearby bars and restaurants means this is on the livelier side of places in Mirissa. The restaurant is really great and well worth a visit by itself. Best roti in Mirissa by a mile ;)

Fantastic location, just a few steps from the beach. Breakfasts were ok.

Unfortunately, they don't have any generators in case of power outages. Do not recommend cooking class with the owner

Exceptional place to stay - family owned

We booked Mama’s place for one night only but extended our stay for two more nights - that speaks for itself. The family owned hotel is perfectly located just few steps from the beach and local beach bars and restaurants. Mama Sura is a lovely lady who cooks the best curry we’ve had in Sri Lanka and she was so kind to us as well as her sons who run the business with her. The room and bathroom were super clean with all the equipment you might need. We would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a good time in Mirissa.

Exceptional

I spent a lovely week here, comfortable room and the best veg curry and rice every night that I have ever had, which is saying something. Different veggy dishes nightly which were truly superb, and made by Mama who is a fabby cook. The place is just off the beach, literally steps away from it in a calm enclave away from the main road and it comes highly recommended from moi.

Great stay in a great place!

Mirissa its self is for sure one of my favorite place in SriLanka. This hotel is almost on the beach (5 steps) but not in the loud area of the beach bars (2 min walk) which was for us perfect. The room is nicely decorated with a comfy bed and has a shared balcony with the other rooms overlooking towards the ocean.

I have no negative remark for this place. Maybe the internet was a bit slow sometimes but for us that was not something bother us. And also not their fault really.

Okay-ish property right near the beach

1. Location: it's located right at the beginning of Mirissa Beach, easily accessible on foot from the main road or by cabs/tuktuks if coming from other towns. 2. Cleanliness: The room, bed, linens, towels & toilet were 10/10 in terms of cleanliness. The bed was comfortable. 2. Restaurant: the food cooked by Mama is delectable! Especially liked the SriLankan curry she prepared. The portions are quite big for one person. Value for money. 3. Service: The property is managed by Mama's sons, all are friendly, warm and hospitable.

Initially I was reluctant to write any negatives about this place considering the current poor economical situation in Sri Lanka, however, here's a few let downs in terms of value for money (this homestay charges almost equal to a 3-star property) 1. Breakfast: Very basic - fruits, tea/coffee, toast-butter-jam, egg/bacon. 2. Maintenance: the property is poorly maintained, considering the prime location and the amount they charge. The rooms do not have any mini fridge. There's an electric kettle but no wall socket ouse it with. No power backup in case of power cuts.

It's a wonderful place run by a big family with Mama in charge. Mum does the cooking (and it’s beyond all expectations, especially the dishes of national cuisine and pancakes), all her boys help you with everything (I guess, even if you needed to call Ilon Musk asap, they’d find his number). The rooms are clean, the area is looked after, you can’t see the ocean out of your window but you hear it all the time, go to bed and wake up to it. Thank you for feeling so welcome. And also big-hearted thank you for being such wonderful human beings when it comes to hardships.
