Superb

Loved how clean our room and premises was presented. It was easy access to the hotel and good location for dinner options. The bed was comfortable and warm for a good sleep. Also very good shower.

Little disappointed with the position of lighting for reading in bed.

pretty good, very close to the beach! and a 20 minute drive from everything!

the guy downstairs came out of the linen cupboard, not that i didn’t like it, it was just very random 😭 oh we also got cat called downstairs which ruined the experience, not the hotels fault, just an experience when walking through the bar!

Disappointing

The pictures on the website look nice, but at the end of the day, it was a pub with rooms. No lift to get to the next level. The place smells like smoke because it is above the beer garden. The pub was full of old drunk people. It wasn't a great place to bring the kids.

Clean room, helpful smily staff

All was good. Just consider it was on first floor with stairs. No lifts there. Might be hard for elderly people with heavy stuff.

Perfect For Our Purpose

The location was great for our purpose, we were there for the Cycling World Championships and the situation of the hotel was perfect. The room was large and clean and the bathroom was huge! The weather was not good so we didn't use the outside beer garden but it looked very inviting in good weather, a tip for anyone staying at the Charles, just down the road there is a huge Fraternity Club which is well worth visiting for eating or drinking. Fairy Meadow is a nice enough suburb of Wollongong and very accessible by train. We had a fantastic time due mainly to the races but the Charles Hotel added to our enjoyment.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of a chef the kitchen was closed for the first few days and when it did open the food we had was just ok. The bar is very lively and used by the locals which gives it a lot of atmosphere.

The worst ever travel experience.

Our car windscreen was smashed in the first night while parking in the hotel carpark. The car was almost unroadworthy. It will need a replacement with a cost of more than $1000. It really spoiled the whole trip as we were concerned of further damage to the car while parking there and our safety during the whole stay. The worse thing was there was no words, assurance, assistance or advice from the hotel staffs or manager about what happened or what we should do. We had to demand that the security camera to be checked. All they came back with was they could not see anything on the camera. The luckiest thing was we only booked there for 2 nights. So we got out of there as soon as we could.
