Charming, Historic Cottage Claytor Lakefront 1BS4 - Kirkner Lake Cabin
About this cabin rental
Journey back into America's vibrant history at Kirkner Cabin, a log home built in the 1840's. This nostalgic cabin is a testament to passing time and a reminder of simpler days. The sturdy chestnut logs were hued and stacked in the traditional manner. If you look closely, you will find an opening in the wall near the fireplace that reveals how the cracks were carefully plugged, then filled with natural mud chink. Gather around the stone fireplace just as families have done for over 160 years. Many stories have been told by the light of the fire and families found comfort in its warmth. In the 1970's, Kirkner Cabin was moved and reassembled alongside the New River. Before the logs were restacked, Mrs. Kirkner hand washed each one in the river, creating the brilliant golden hues still visible today. Take a voyage through time in this historical log cabin overlooking America's oldest river. 25 Minutes to Claytor Lake State Park 25 Minutes to Foster Falls State Park 20 Minutes to Thee Draper Village/New River Trail Access 35 Minutes to Radford University 55 Minutes to Virginia Tech 10 Minutes to Allisona Boat Launch (Claytor Lake) - Blender - Covered Porch - Dock/Boat Dock - DVD Player - Fire Pit (in ground) - Fireplace (gas) - Fishing - Fully Equipped Kitchen - Grill (charcoal) - Heat and Air - Iron/Ironing Board - Linens (sheets, towels) - Microwave - Picnic Table - Satellite/Cable Television - Telephone - Television - Washer/Dryer - Waterfront - Yard - No Internet Access (20 minutes to The Village Coffee Shoppe for free High Speed WiFi) Not Pet Friendly Want to make your stay even more special? We really enjoyed the setting of this cabin and it was very cozy during the chilly nights. Just a heads up that the refrigerator froze our food so it might need turned down and there is not a lighter or a match to be found for the fire pit or to light the ignitor on the grill so be sure to have one. They supplied plenty of firewood though, which was great! We would stay here again for sure!

We came to the cabin back in 2015 for a valentines weekend and loved the location and coziness of the cabin. We rented it again this new years and so glad we came back. It’s so clean and tidy. Quiet and such beautiful views of the river. We like coming in the winter for it’s not tourist season and we feel we have the whole area to ourselves. We will be back again!!

Tranquil setting relaxing on the porch after biking the New River Trail and kayaking. Access to both is nearby or reasonably short ride to alternate launch points.

The property is quiet, peaceful, and clean. Love that it literally right on the waters edge. The view is terrific and enjoying a cup of coffee on the front porch while the ducks swam and a light rain fell on the metal roof ... music for the soul. Great stay. Would recommend.
