We absolutely loved this apartment! It's a climb up the hill, but well worth every step. The view is magnificent from the garden. The apartment is clean and tidy and was perfect for our group of two couples. We felt very at-home here and could happily have stayed longer. You do want to be of moderate fitness for the climb up, but taxis are always an option from the old city. They're very easy to find.

The private garden terrace was an amazing place to enjoy a drink before dinner. Great view of Old Town. 200 yard walk to be picked up by a taxi/Uber or 380 stairs down to/up from town. Incredible view from the master bedroom window. Great place to stay! Cant say anything bad.

We had a wonderful stay House Marija. The house was very clean and the views are gorgeous. We loved the outside sitting area. Yes, there are A LOT of stairs getting to and from Old Town, but that is to be expected and we welcomed the exercise. All and all, it was a lovely place.

We very much enjoyed a short but lovey stay at House Marija! The apartment has a convenient location and incredible view over Old Town. Hosts Maro and Vesna were communicative, accommodating, and very kind!

Loved the view & outdoor seating area. The living room only had seating for three, but we spent most of our time using the outdoor patio or enjoying the old town. Maro was very attentive & helped us out by placing on order for pizza one night when we were having trouble contacting the restaurant, we really appreciated it!

Like most properties in the city, they layout was a bit strange (by American standards) and yes, there were many stairs to climb, but it was a great stay. To wake up to that view and to have wine in the evening on the terrace made the steps worth it. The host was quick to respond to questions. We came home one day to find a bowl of fresh grapes from the owner on the patio. Quiet street, close to a bus stop. The stairs helped offset the great food we enjoyed during our stay. Highly recommend.

A great property with the probably the best view of Dubrovnik. The own use gardens with an area for dining and relaxing under a grape vine are the best place to chill out. The house is comfortable and has everything you need. Vesna is most helpful too. Just be aware there are a few steps up from the old town so you need to have some level of fitness to walk back.

Location away from the hustle of the old town. If you can handle the walk up the steps (around 150), it is the perfect location. There is no direct car access, so you need to carry your luggage up the steds. Parking is a bit away and is seriously expensive. Vesna contacted us a couple nights before arrival to give complete instructions on how to check in and directions, and she is very responsive. The place is spacious with 2 bedrooms, a smaller living room, and a good size kitchen with dining table.

Amazing view! Lots of stairs to get to Pile Gate! But worth it! The view was so amazing, loved morning coffee out on the terrace and cocktails in the evening. A great stay!

We loved our stay at this accommodation. Everything we needed and more! Yes you will need to walk up and down many stairs to get to old town but it was doable! We never met our host but she was always available for any questions we had. The outdoor area and views were lovely. Beds were comfortable. Highly recommend

Very difficult area and city to walk for older people, no parking available for a long ways and some of the most expensive parking on the planet up to $500 a week or $80 per day. Very hot and humid at end of June and crowded, will not return. Great scenery views, but need to fit and young to enjoy most of this city. Easy to be confused at checkin with no numbers on units.

My sister and I stayed here for our 3 nights in Dubrovnik. It was a spacious 2 bedroom located above the old town. Vesna contacted us a couple nights before arrival to give complete instructions on how to check in and directions. Vesna is very pleasant to deal with. The drop off of luggage is tricky as it’s on an older road that is too narrow for most cars to get down and the main road that leads out to it is very busy with no where to stop to unload. Therefore drop off and pickup at the nearest bus stop (around 400m distance) was safest option.
It’s located above the old town which has superb views in delightful garden. This means the stairs are many to get anywhere. Taxi drivers where charging us 10 euros from the old town to drop us at that bus stop near the house. There are a couple markets and a bakery close by for food as well.

If you can handle walking a few hundred steps (a few dozen floors) there and back, there is no better way to experience the best of what Dubrovnik has to offer than staying at this tranquil, comfortable home, where we were able to recuperate and recharge while enjoying sweeping views over the town, far removed from the intense tourist experience that characterizes Dubrovnik. The tradeoffs of having to walk further and not having direct car access in return for this tranquility and affordable comfort were definitely worth it to us.

We really enjoyed our stay at Marija House with the spectacular view of the walled city of Dubrovnik and the Adriatic from the terrace. It was a relaxing and beautiful place to enjoy our morning coffee/breakfast and evening drinks and food. Maro was very responsive to any questions or requests we had before and during our stay. It is an easy walk into the city, and we often took an Uber back "home" in the evening.
We highly recommend a stay at Marija House!

Great view. The patio is a great place to eat and appreciate the old city.

We stayed at this property for 4 nights. Such a great location just above the old city. Lots of steps to go up and down but if you are mobile it’s no problem. We loved having our coffee in the am and our wine /beer in the pm overlooking the Adriatic Sea. 5 stars for sure. Maro organized a pickup from the airport and also a private car to take us to split with a stop at Mostar. 😎

We rented this incredible place for five weeks -- as other reviewers have commented, the view is extraordinary. We were thrilled when the door from the alleyway opened to this little piece of paradise. Though the pictures are nice, it really doesn't do it justice. The rental was spacious and exceptionally clean, with fresh linens arriving each week. It is by far our most favorite rental through VRBO.
I must, however, touch upon the hosts, Maro and Vesna (also Diana) who were extraordinary and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. I fractured my foot first day there and they took me to the ER and was my Croatian liaison getting through the medical system there -- all with a smile. We were truly humbled by their generosity and willingness to help us in whatever questions/help we needed during our stay.
We highly recommend -- and look forward to returning to this lovely rental AND to the hosts, who I dare say we consider friends now!

This property had the most wonderful view of Dubrovnik! But of course, that means that it is above the town and requires a lotbof steps to reach it after being in town. There are Ubers and a bus but we usually walked.
The apartment itself was clean, comfortable and spacious and had everything we needed for a 5 night stay. Too bad we had some rain which slowed down our clothes drying which would have been a cinch if we could have left them outside. Overall, great stay and you can’t beat that view!

This is a wonderful property from which to explore Dubrovnik! The view from the bedrooms and from the garden is beyond compare, and the garden is ideal to sit and have a cup of coffee each morning. Vesna was a wonderful host and so easy to work with. We hope to rent this property again on our next trip!

This is a perfect place to stay to explore Dubrovnik. Location above the Old Town means you can easily get into the Old Town but can also escape the busy hustle and enjoy the peaceful garden and views. The hosts were really helpful, good communication right from booking and during our stay answered questions and gave us tips to explore the area. Great property and a great stay in beautiful Dubrovnik!

Sensational terrace views
Maro booked our cab ride as to and from the airport, which made transfers a breeze. A warm welcome and a clean, tidy and comfortable apartment was ready for us to enjoy on arrival. Maro took us through the house book and shared some ideas on places to eat, grab a beer and explore. The morning view from the terrace is simply outstanding and will stay in our memories and a real bonus. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and if you don’t fancy the steps you can always take a stroll up the road, which takes a little longer but is less heavy on the calves! It’s easy to walk to Lapad, where you’ll find prices a little more accommodating, but you must walk the old town walls and take a dip in the crystal clear Adriatic if you get the chance. The coastal views are as dramatic as they are beautiful, give the cable car a go to get the best of them. A thoroughly recommended experience from start to finish. Thanks Maro :-)

Host was very helpful. Place was clean and had a great view. A few steps to get to old town but we were always up for the task. It was also reasonable. Would rent it again in a heartbeat!!

A really nice single-floor dwelling on top of a small apartment and contiguous to another dwelling on the North. It is quiet and secluded with a beautiful patio space - part covered and part open at the wall overlooking Dubrovnik Old Town and harbor. We really loved staying here and would do it again! The property manager was very responsive and helpful.

This house is exactly as seen in the pictures and honestly, even more charming in person. When you first walk in, you'll see a small garden/ terrace area with recliners, chairs, and dining table, perfect for enjoying breakfast. The views from the property are spectacular overlooking Old Town and the Adriatic! The house is clean, spacious and well maintained. The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking and the bedrooms have extra toiletries, towels, and anything you might need during the stay. The location is very central and within walking distance of grocery stores, restaurants, and old town. Maro and Vesna were extremely accomodating and responsive to any questions we had. They even helped us ship some items we accidentally left behind in the house, which was so nice! One thing of note is that there are quite a few stairs to climb walking from old town which may be a bit of a challenge with a suitcase. It's a little tricky finding the place the first time, but Maro sent very detailed instructions so we didn't have any issues. I cannot recommend this house enough!

Beautiful view with many stairs
I stayed one week in Dubrovnik with my mom. The apartment looked as described, but getting there is a bit tricky the first time (Maro, the host helped by sending a location on a big street, from there you have to walk into small alleys down to the apartment). The apartment itself is very spacious with a beautiful little garden and a terrace with a view over the old town.
The rooms are big and both have a nice view too (there are many insects though, hence we had to close the windows).
Be aware that there are a lot of steps to walk to the old town. For my mom, who is 64 it was too much to handle. For a fit person it’s doable :)
The closest beach is right at the old town, we didn’t like it though. It was crowded and not particularly pretty. Getting to sveti Jakov was quite a tour. You have to take an Uber or bus and then still walk 20 mins of stairs.
Maro, our host was very friendly. He helped us a lot with finding good restaurants and beaches and he was always reachable via WhatsApp.
The location itself is “quite quiet”. It is some meters away from a very busy street but protected by a wall from it.
The supermarkets were close, but walking there along that busy street was honestly stressful.
In general we were a bit shocked by the prices in Dubrovnik like the ferry to Lokrum which was 200kuna (27€) per person. Overall the apartment is great with an awesome host and a beautiful little garden, but as a guest you have to be aware that it is definitely not nature and one can smell the smog from the big street.

This is a beautiful house with amazing views of the Old Town. We had a lovely stay and Maro went out of his way to accommodate us.
It is important to note that the house is above the old town and that there are quite a few steps between the two which could be challenging especially in the hot weather.

The view and outdoor dining areas are simply wonderful. Our host Vesna could not have been nicer. She even made a copy of our bus tickets to Split and delivered them to us! We would love to come back!

Spectacular view of Dubrovnik's Old Town
This property is perfect for those who wants to enjoy unique views of Dubrovnik from the comfort of your vacation rental. The view is breathtaking all day. There is a lovely garden and two tables where you can enjoy a meal, one with stunning views & one in the shade by the entrance of the house. It would be wonderful if the hosts would have a hammock or some reclining lounge chairs as well.
The house itself is well-equipped. The kitchen has all you need to make meals. There is also a dining table inside in case of bad weather. The bedrooms are comfortable & have quite a lot of storage space. The beds are comfortable as well. There is AC in both bedrooms which was wonderful. There is a small, cozy sitting area in between the bedrooms. It would be great if the hosts would eventually replace the love seat with a comfier small couch. It was not really ideal to spend much time in. There is a decent sized bathroom with a shower. The wifi was fine. There is nice art displayed so it gives this rental a home-away-from-home feeling, which is very nice. When we arrived there was some cold juice and water and some typical Croatian liquers, which was much appreciated. Friends of the host, Maro and his lovely mom, welcomed us. They were full of helpful tips for Dubrovnik and were very kind and welcoming. We briefly met the owner who was also very nice. We were here with our 2 boys, 13 & 11 and our small dog.
Be aware that the stairs that go through the garden lead to two other homes, the owner's home & a small apartment under the house. We had no issues with this. Everyone was quite respectful of our privacy & overall, our stay was very calm & peaceful & unforgettable due to the beauty of Dubrovnik & area.
Note: This property is not easy to access. If you come by car, be sure to ask for clear, precise instructions as to where you can meet to check-in and where you can park your vehicle. If you have a lot of luggage, think about consolidating just what you need for your stay as it can be a long walk in the hot sun to get here, depending on where you manage to find parking. If you have come by plane/train/bus/boat, be mindful that there are a LOT of stairs to get here from the town. In the evenings, when it is not so hot, this was not so bad. This is definitely not an ideal spot for anyone with mobility issues or small children that need to use strollers or cannot walk a lot. However, in our case, the view, proximity & terrace made it worth it.
