Located 3 miles from downtown and a half-mile from Lake Austin, this remodeled estate has a gorgeous pool, pickleball court, and multiple kitchens and living areas. '[This Austin home] had charm,' writes Lady Bird Johnson in her oral history book, 'and was a happy part of our lives for a good many years.' INSIDE LBJ’S ESTATE This Estate underwent a large-scale renovation, completed in May 2015. The flawless interior features two living areas, two full kitchens, and separate entrances to each area -- an ideal set-up for company retreats, multi-family getaways, reunions, or any situation where time together AND personal space are important. Reserve the formal living area for cocktails and conversation (or coffee and strategizing). Add a fire in the fireplace if it’s chilly. The second living area above the garage has a 60” TV, leather sofas, pool and games tables. The second kitchen is adjacent to this space. Keep snacks and drinks handy, or use it to supplement the main kitchen when preparing a big feast. A truly spectacular outdoor area was designed for entertaining with a professional-quality pickleball court with LED lighting, a pristine swimming pool, and a complete outdoor kitchen. The outdoor pool, tennis court, and basketball court can only be used during 9am - 10pm. BEDROOMS Up to 12 people can sleep in six bedrooms, which include two expansive master suites with king beds, flat-screen TVs, and luxurious attached bathrooms. Two more bedroom suites have queen beds. The TV room has a 60” TV, plus a queen sleeper sofa. Kids will love piling into the bunk room with a full-over-full bunk bed, twin-over-twin bunk, a twin trundle, and a 20” TV. LOCATION This historic estate occupies the perfect place between Austin and the lake. Tucked into a quiet, tree-dappled neighborhood, you will find peaceful seclusion and easy access to downtown, 3 miles away. Easily access kayak rentals, trails, and Zilker Park over the AHS footbridge near the home. Visit the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center (17-minute drive). This preserve and education center (with 650 species of native Texas plants) captures the environmentalist spirit of the First Lady who once called this Austin vacation rental 'home.' Bring your clubs; there’s a golf course a half-mile from the estate. Or rent a boat and explore Lake Austin, also a half-mile away. On the lakeshore, you’ll find Hula Hut, a local luau-themed waterfront restaurant serving up margaritas and Tiki-Mex cuisine. The LBJ Presidential Library is a 15-minute drive from the home on the East side of UT Austin's campus. The City of Austin limits occupancy to six unrelated adults. Huge house with plenty to do
The pictures don't do the house justice. We had a large group stay here for a golf trip, and we never ran out of things to do whether it was playing pool, lots of different tables for poker, bbq, swimming, what felt like 100's of TV's for watching college football, etc. Zilker Park and Lake Austin are also right by the house. The stay was perfect, in a beautiful home, and we will definitely be back if the house is available next time!

Perfect House for Family Gatherings!
The house was perfect for a three day weekend getaway! Plenty of space throughout the house, but still cozy enough to be with everyone at the same time. Loved the grill/pool layout and TV outside; we were able to watch college football and swim at the same time! Instructions throughout the house to help run the electronics and switches were labeled were very helpful. If I ever plan on returning to the area, we will absolutely try to stay here again!

I recently visited this property with some friends from college and we had a great stay. The pool and BBQ area is awesome and great for entertaining a good size group and hanging out. The yard is very spacious and includes a private full basketball court -- which we used quite a bit. Inside the house, there's two kitchens and a great den upstairs with a lot of seating and a nice pool table. So -- there's a ton to do on property. Plus, Lake Austin is right down the street (we ended up renting boats for the weekend) and it's close to downtown (about a $10 cab ride). I can't think of a better place to stay in Austin that has all the amenities this house has!!
That having been said, it isn't a good place to have a party. The neighborhood is VERY quiet and the property manager is STRICT. We had a small group of guys come home late from the bars and start playing music outside and hanging out by the pool. Immediately, we had noise complaints and received calls from the property manager and everyone had to come inside. We also got a call from the property manager when we were playing the music outside in the afternoon.
So -- for the right group -- this is the perfect place to stay in Austin. We still had a great time and I would stay again.

Fantastic experience for our family. Terrytown is in the heart of Austin just near downtown, which saved our crew from sitting in hours of traffic. Clean, updated/renovated, high tech yet it retains the historic luster. WAY better than downtown hotels like in years past. You get to come back to your own hot tub, pool, tennis & basketball court so everyone was entertained, yet relaxed. A++ home for our needs. The extended family knows where our next reunion will be. We will be back if the house is available.

Great way to see Austin
I had a wonderful time staying at this beautiful home. I visited Austin to spend time with old friends and this was the perfect location to catch up, relax and enjoy the city. The house was spacious and tastefully decorated and there was room to spread out or be together. I particularly loved the huge pool and hot tub. The neighborhood is gorgeous and it was easy to go on foot and explore parts of the city. Our hosts could not have been warmer or more gracious. Highly recommend this property and would stay here again in a heartbeat!

What a wonderful property! This is a spacious well appointed home, that left us wanting for nothing. As a frequent VRBO user, I was impressed with the quality of the linens, the ability to enjoy quality time together in the homes private spaces, and the amazing backyard.with a pool and hot tub The location is accessible to many of Austin's hot spots and was a great homebase for a girls weekend.

Perfect Austin vacation home
Perfect vacation rental! We stayed for a girls getaway at the end of Feb. If you like to walk you'll love this place. We walked (just a couple of miles) through some amazing neighborhoods to ladybird lake then had lunch downtown. We poked around some fantastic shops near the Wholefoods flagship store. Uber is a quick way to get back if you get tired of walking. Everything is available to eat in and it's central enough to get anywhere to eat out. The hot tub was a great addition and it was warm enough for a dip in the pool. The owners are friendly and accommodating. I can't recommend this place enough!

First time Austin visitor
This place far exceeded my expectations. If there were six (or more) stars, I would give them. I visited with four other girlfriends (late 40s) who all live around the country. The house fostered a great time allowing us to be together or have separate quiet time. We had great mornings sipping coffee before embarking on long walks or out for meals. The house is beautiful and a great mix between comfortable and charming. The owners have spared no detail. The decor is comfortable, upscale and airy. The beds are so comfortable that I checked the labels to see if I could order one at home. The various lounge areas make it great for gathering in large groups, but also allows for smaller group interactions, as there are several lovely places to sit. This includes the outside pool area with an infinity hot tub! There is a basketball/tennis court. The neighborhood is lovely, and we enjoyed walking around and looking at the varied architectural styles. We didn't cook much while we were there, but I did notice that the stoves were high end and there are large refrigerators and nice settings. I highly recommend this place for families, groups, retreats, etc. it would be great for a family reunion or two families traveling together where you have more than one family staying together bc you can have group time and alone time all in one house. Highly recommend.

This historic home has it all! My wife and I travelled to Austin with our children for a getaway weekend and couldn't have asked for a better vacation. The house is beautiful inside and out with all the amenities you will ever need without having to leave. We were entertained for hours in the huge backyard that includes a fabulous pool, outdoor kitchen/fireplace and full court basketball/tennis court. The location is in a wonderful neighborhood and felt like we were staying in our own Hill Country resort just minutes from Downtown Austin. If you are looking for a place that has both luxury and space it doesn't get any better than this. We had a great time and look forward to staying here again on our next trip.

Amazing home for large groups
Perfect home for a family reunion or other event involving large groups of people. Enjoyed a holiday weekend with 20 family members ranging in age from 2-80 years old. Everyone was able to relax and never felt crowded or cramped. Plenty of separate areas for eating, lounging, playing cards etc. Home has 2 kitchens, multiple TV rooms and a great outdoor space with pool, hot tub, sport court and fireplace. The aesthetic is upscale, recently decorated and the environment is clean and comfortable. Great location for exploring Austin restaurants, hiking trails and music/sporting events. Highly recommended and will definitely be back!

Wonderful family home close to everything!
We stayed here for a recent weekend and couldn't have had a better experience! The house is beautiful and very comfortable, including the beds; everything is very clean, fresh and updated. The location is perfect to get anywhere in Austin, especially downtown, the Capital, the UT campus, festival sites, parks, great restaurants, and Lady Bird Lake and Lake Austin. The home is in a beautiful, tree-lined neighborhood. The pool and spa, summer kitchen, sport court, and yard are wonderful amenities that kept everyone entertained outdoors. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend it!

20+ people and never felt crowded
The set-up of this house is perfect for large gatherings. There are at least 6 different areas to congregate including multiple living and TV rooms, outside sports areas, and a spectacular outdoor entertaining space with pool and grilling area. Adults and kids can enjoy their own separate spaces or come together for meals and entertainment in the two full kitchens, living rooms and outdoor areas. Never felt crowded with our large group. New renovations make this historic property a gem. Great location near downtown, trendy restaurants, and walking trail. I look forward to staying here again.

Fabulous experience
We came in for the football game and you couldn't ask for a better base of operations for any activity. Centrally located with easy access to all points of interest. Luxuriously furnished home - we thought we would spend most of the time out on the city, but has friends over to relax in the pool instead. The kids had an impromptu basketball game, then we stayed up after the game to watch football in the gameroom. A truly wonderful weekend that we would highly recommend to anyone.

Unique, upscale, expansive retreat close to everything in Austin!
We stayed here for a UT football weekend and were very happy we did. The property is fantastic. Multiple living, dining and sleeping areas allowed us to be together but also have our own spaces. The amenities are excellent as well. Inside, the house has all the finer touches, with marble countertops, flatscreen HD TVs, and a charm that goes with being LBJ's family home in the 1940s. Outside, the sport court, pool, and dining area make it perfect for entertaining. The location in a nice neighborhood is great too. Close to Lake Austin, UT campus, and downtown. Can't imagine a better place to stay to experience all of Austin. Highly recommended!
