It was an amazing place!!

We booked an ocean view studio and that was not available when we checked in. We were given a one bedroom studio with a Mountain View instead. To compensate, we were given a $70/night refund. Our room balcony was closed because the hotel exterior was being painted. We could not go out there between 8am and 5pm daily. I loved the pool area and easy access to the beach. It was nice to have drink and food service provided by Dukes. Parking can be difficult if you get back after 8pm. If there are no spots left, you can go park by the villas or the other building’s lot which isn’t incredibly far, but just really not fun after a long day. The proximity to everything within Kaanapali was great. Some units have a bbq grill on their balcony. my only real gripe about staying here was that the hot water within our room was very limited. Only one person could take a shower before the water became luke warm.

We had booked this vacation over 6 months in advance. When we tried to check in, we were told our room type (partial ocean view) was not available. We were told there was nothing they could do about it. We understand the circumstances in the area, but would have hoped to make arrangements for paying customers. We paid for one night and checked out to move to another property.

Overall it was very peaceful and quiet. The parking was a joke! Underground parking with only about 1/3 of the space needed for all the people who were there. Had to be in the garage by 7:30 at night or you didn't get a space & the spaces only accommodated small cars! It was a nightmare.

Resort was amazing, However being a VIP there wasnt an upgrade option and getting a key card was a huge inconvenience when they were telling you everything was by code it absolutely was not.Needed a card for gym, parking etc.

This place is underrated!

When we arrive we were upgraded to 3 bedroom ocean view which was lovely. Condo very nice and loved the lanai. The room was very comfy with the exception that it had roaches. We’re we’re horrified . Notified the manager and they sent someone right away to take care of it. After arguing about solutions, the right thing to do per customer service, we were comp fees and a night. Should have given at least 2-3 nights comp for the trouble. Staff is wonderful and great at communicating. The hotel is beautiful and in a perfect spot for accessing shops and restaurants. Probably won’t stay again but try a different resort in Wailea.

Expedites offered a “resort view” room however the facility did not have this option. I was annoyed because I ended up with a Mountain View room which at the time of booking was cheaper than a resort view room - so I ended up paying for something that was not available. Also the bathtub in my Mountain View room did it work - which was a huge bummer.
The resort was over all nice and the staff amazing - jus through a 3rd party like Expedia leaves you with not a lot of options when you get to the actual site.

It is a lot of walking to get to ocean from villa's

The resort is fabulous. The grounds and pool are beautiful. Unfortunately it is very windy and our room was in a terrible location. Our “resort view” was a view of the parking lot. The balcony was so windy the furniture blew across into the side wall. We were only able to use the balcony one day while we were there. It was very disappointing. The trucks in the morning were so loud. If you stay and reserve a resort view, make sure your room is on the side of the building and not overlooking the street and parking lot. It’s ridiculous to me that those rooms cost a small fortune. They should charge far less for them.

Our stay was really great. We had a great time and no major complaints or concerns. We loved the condo, the grounds, helpful and friendly staff and Dukes being on property. Everything you need is close by. Nice stores for shopping on site too. The spa was expensive but wonderful! Some things to consider when booking: they didn’t have our room ready for early check in. Don’t book through Expedia if you can help it. We had a negative experience with them at the time of check in so book directly with the resort. There are bugs and smells kinda funky inside the hallway area but it’s nothing to be concerned about. The bugs are gonna happen regardless because it’s Hawaii, especially if you’re on the ground floor like we were, but we didn’t mind it. Overall, we loved our stay and didn’t want to leave. I’d definitely stay again!

Our second stay at Honua Kai. Stayed in a villa this time. Completely amazing. So much space. Three bedrooms, each with a king bed. Huge lanai. Enormous kitchen. Garage. When we return to Maui, will again be staying at Honua Kai.

Beautiful property but the rooms need work. I killed over 30 cockroaches on the first night and 40 overall. That was the highlight of my stay in that room. I had to sleep with the lights on for the entire trip just to keep the roaches from coming out in the dark

Had high hopes based on previous recommendations. Door to balcony/lanai was broken on arrival - was repaired but took time out of our trip. Front desk apparently lost luggage of other guests and called our room asking if we had extra bags in our possession. Washing machine flooded the kitchen - took more time out of our trip and was not fixed at our request once we learned we would have to have another person come look at it and work on it. Cranes onsite doing building work took away from atmosphere. Patio furniture worn and starting to come apart. Lobby restroom not clean - chose not to use it. Found used bandaids in the pool - hard to prevent that, but part of the experience we had. Room was very clean, as was the rest of the propriety. The staff were friendly, even while it seemed they were very short handed. Not sure we would return for another visit. Next trip is planned and we are going to try another place. Overall it was ok - it’s Maui, so hard to have a bad trip, but not what we expected for the money paid.

Room could of been cleaner. A lot of surface stains that were easily wiped away with a wipe. Also, could tell hadn’t been dusted in awhile.

First I want to say that this property is maintained for and kept in beautiful condition beyond description. There is no garbage, debris, etc. anywhere on site. Staff come through all common areas daily to clean (down to wiping window sills and fire alarm levers). The pools, onsite stores and eateries, etc. are just magnificent. We rented a 3bd/3ba alii ocean view suite. This came with a very hefty cost for five nights. I was a little underwhelmed with some repairs that had been previously done in the unit HH0251(paint touch ups that werent the same color) and also some thay werent like gouges to the walls, etc. Additionally, the room wasn't fully clean when we took receipt. There were crumbs and food residue left on the counters, dining room table and the outside dining table. We did request an early check in (that did not go as depicted when I called in one week and then 24 hours prior to our arrival). We took receipt of our room at 2:30pm so 1.5 hrs early which may have played into the cleanliness issues of the room, however it shouldn't have. I was a little disappointed to find they no longer do unit cleans or refreshes during stays but that was okay. Overall the resort itself was exactly as advertised and did not disappoint. I look forward to another stay!!

I liked the amenities of the hotel. I liked how the balcony had a table and chairs for us to eat and the balcony was in glass so we could see through the view even when we sit down.
I didn't like that there wasn't a way for us to connect on Netflix or Disney .
I didn't like that there were no white towels available at 3:30 PM at the cabana. I was told to go to the front desk in the main hotel. There were white towels left on the beach and parking lot. So naturally, they ran out. There were no recreational activities for kids or adults such as a game room or pool aerobics. There were way too many kids in the pool. Some of them kept going in and out of the jacuzzi. Some were exercising in the exercise room without an adult.

Clean spacious room. Only bar or restaurant on property is Duke’s, no outside food or alcohol allowed down by the pool, front desk staff treats you poorly if you book through Expedia or any other third party…be forewarned.

We love the closeness to the beaches, beauty of the grounds, and convenience to dining.

The resort are condominium complexes - many of them therefore there were many people- we found the quiet pool so that was perfect for us.
Our room was nice - one bedroom with kitchen and washer dryer. Large balcony- we had the Mountain View The facility was well taken care of and next door to other vacation clubs .

My family and I stayed here 6 years ago and it was really nice. We were very disappointed with our stay this time and will not return. The wifi was down the entire time which is very hard for teenagers. The kitchen seemed dirty. Two lamps were broken and we found several roaches in our room. Disgusting! Would expect more from a Motel 6. My daughter came home with several bug bites. Not what I would expect for the price we paid.

Honua Kai is nice, the grounds are immaculate. It’s right on Ka’anapali Beach, which is pretty, don’t know how safe that swimming is. The only cons about Honua Kai is a persistent sewage smell, not sure if there is a drain field on the property (I think there is in the center lawn between towers) and dining options. Duke’s has good food, but you have to make reservations days head of time. Other than that, Honua Kai was a great stay.

I highly recommend this place to families with kids. You can access the beach easily and they even have a water slide for the kids/adults. We came here for our honeymoon, but I will definitely visit this resort again when/if we have kids. Thanks for everything!
