Chris at the desk is awesome. He loves his job, was eager to share tips and best practices to get the best of of our stay. Our room looked out towards to sea and it was just gorgeous! Breath of fresh air. We will be back!

As a mature traveler seeking a short but memorable stay in Venice Beach, I found the Samesun Venice Beach Hostel to be a fitting choice. While the accommodation may lean towards the rugged side, its prime location more than made up for it. Situated mere footsteps away from the vibrant cultural scene of Venice Beach and the iconic Santa Monica Pier, this hostel offers an experience that encapsulates the essence of the area.
Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the lively atmosphere surrounding the hostel. From the colorful boardwalk to the eclectic mix of street performers and vendors, Venice Beach exudes a unique energy that is simply infectious. The proximity to this cultural hub allowed me to immerse myself fully in the sights and sounds of this iconic destination.
The hostel itself may not boast luxurious amenities, but it provides all the essentials for a comfortable stay. The dormitory-style rooms were clean and tidy, and the communal areas offered ample space for socializing and relaxation.

A few people usually meet up at lounge area and go do activities together definitely a great place to meet friends and members of opposite sex. I really like coming here. It's a bit off beat, which makes it relaxing to me, people being able to be themselves. And of course, the location right by the water is wonderful! Beautiful sunsets and strolls on Venice Beach Walk ...

It’s a hostel in a good location if your focus is Venice beach.

Personally prefer more firmer mattress, but overall value is more than what you pay.

Absolutely wonderful! Would definitely recommend. As a solo traveller, one of my biggest fears is finding a safe accomodation. Things aren't really as they seem online. But Samesun exceeded my expectations! I got a all women dorm and I shared it with a couple of other solo backpackers. It has been a wonderful experience.

High quality for a backpackers place and the building room had a lot of character. Staff friendly and helpful
Fab location
Noisy though, as I guess you would expect in a hostel type of accommodation. I wouldn’t stay again due to this but would be ok if you are heavy sleeper

I didn’t realize this was a hostel until after I booked it. It’s not terrible. A communal bathroom and shower is pretty clean. Steep stairs to get up into it.

So I've been staying here many times over the years however this was my first stay since the pandemic and I can definitely see some of the cost cutting measures. Main thing that stood out was the extremely cutback breakfast offerings... Prior to 2020, there used to be a big spread of bagels, pancake mix, waffle machine and more. Nowadays, it's dry pre-packaged danish pastries wrapped in plastic. Quite disappointing to see

The spot was good for a hostel, it was on the beach.. the only things the spoiled the trip was the ppl in the room stunk, and snoring so it REALLY REALLY SUCKED trying to sleep. They didn’t have a freezer no ice machine.. and trying to park was a freaking nightmare!!

In a word - AVOID! This is a HOSTEL that also has 1 or 2 single rooms to rent, We specifically booked this because the description on Hotels.com stated that the funds would be drawn AT the site upon check-in or check-out. THE FUNDS WERE DRAWN IMMEDIATEDLY! Which caused us to incur an overcharge with our bank because we only use that account for travel and had not moved funds into it yet for this trip. The location overlooks the Venice boardwalk and has a contant flow up of backpackers with suspect people roaming the streets outside the entrance and outside the window at all hours of the night,. On top of that our Bed cover had BLOOD stains on it. To top it all off - We were awakened by a junkie shooting up in the parking lot just outside our window at approx. 2 am. I didnt think a hotel this bad could exist in the United States. Clearly I was wrong.,

Our room had a view of the beach which was amazing! Breakfast was continental. No noise complaints. Friendly staff. Stayed on the 3rd floor and no elevator. GREAT location right in the middle of it all.

DO NOT BOOK A ROOM HERE! It’s unorganized and dirty. Stay at Hi hostel instead. I showed up to Venice samesun and it was a terrible experience. They don’t number the beds and it’s a free for all for anyone who comes in. I showed up and someone stuff was on my bed. Went down stairs and was giving a different room for the night but was told I would be moving back to my original room in the morning. Moved back and the bed WAS STILL occupied by someone else. They said I would have to wait to 3 pm. I slept in my car and just went to work because I work nights. Got off room was finally available but one day when I got off someone occupied my bed and I was so mad. I ended up canceling the rest of my days and went to Hi Hostel. Samesun said they would reimburse me back for those two nights of inconvenience but I never got that money back. Don’t waste your money here. There are better hostel that are overall better ran/organized.

Confortable and good location

The location can't be beat, on the beach with the skate park and other Venice Beach attractions essentially next door, and surrounded by a variety of good restaurant options.
There's a club on the first floor and the bass rattles the floors and is quite loud in the evenings but my suite mate and I got a kick out of that, as well as all the accents and languages coming from the common room, which is a very comfortably furnished space, into the early morning. It's a hostel, located on one of the most eccentric & eclectic beaches in the world, and so you accept and embrace that. Earplugs can remedy this if it's an issue.
There's a well equipped kitchen with a commercial size fridge to accommodate any and all guests food.
The staff was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable of the area. Would definitely stay here again!
