Good stay, great location, wonderful staff. As advertised and solid value. 4/5 Stars.
For 5 stars, desperately needed better pillows - they were horrible. Also, assigning us a 30-minute window for breakfast, 8-830a, was less than ideal, particularly for a vacation. Finally, the doors allowed in quite a bit of noise, so perhaps a bit more sound proofing. That said, for being an older building, it was good. It has a great location, wonderful staff, and was overall a solid value.

The bed was comfy, the room clean and place was charming. The breakfast and the individual serving where excellent. Noted that they lend chairs and cooler to those staying if they need it an awesome feature and the unique art out back went with the atmosphere. they also have bikes. Will recommend to all.

Great stay in an old classic hotel with big rooms, antiques, a library room, a private yard for guests, nice breakfast, and a great hostess (Alma).

The front desk clerk seemed resentful to have to deal with people. Room was filthy and old. Keep away!

We enjoyed our stay. Good location, attractive property, nicer than staying at a chain. It's a bit faded and less attractive than the website shows -- closer to a busy road, some mold in the shower, a slow bathroom sink drain. The bed was large and comfortable. Our assigned breakfast time (we were not expecting this) was too late for our plans, so we skipped it, though other reviewers say it's very good. The landscaping is lovely! We'd probably stay somewhere else next time.

I liked the breakfast and afternoon social.
I think the room needs a bench upon which suitcases can be placed. Also the bathroom needs a table to place miscellaneous toiletries. Drapes at all the windows would provide more privacy. Right now there are blinds but they don’t hang close enough to the window.

This would be a 5 star if they just cleaned it up a little bit, and used an indoor pesticide. We were welcomed by what I believed to be a brown recluse spider, and I had a wonderful response from the manager who was able to put us in another room. The bathrooms were especially in need of cleaning. The shower curtain had black mold on it and the box of soap in shower was wet? Sink could really use some cleaning as there was crap that could simply be scrubbed off. The first room head of bed also leaned downward, and the coffee mugs were filthy. I would love this place if it were just cleaned properly and for goodness sakes replace the shower curtain. Ew…

Loved my stay at First Colony Inn! The property is beautiful and it has a great path to the beach which is wonderful. Breakfast is very nice and so is the afternoon wine and snacks selection. This place is highly recommended if you’re planning a trip to The Outer Banks.

Spent one night here for a quick getaway. Would absolutely stay there again. Everything was clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly. Beautiful grounds and all very relaxing. Breakfast was excellent. There is a dedicated path to the beach. Beds were comfortable. My only very minor complaint would be there is no extra blanket in the room and we were a little chilled from walking on the beach in the evening.

Beautiful property and we really enjoyed the breakfasts! The room was very clean. The only problem we had was that the tv wasn't connecting so we only got a couple of channels. One of the guys at the property came to the room to look at it, but I guess it wasn't something that could be fixed in a couple of days. We never heard or asked again about it.

The breakfasts and happy hour were great. Staff was super friendly and helpful. We loved the peace and quiet of the property. B&B is a little dated but one would expect that from a historic property.

This hotel is great value of the money. It's not luxurious, but it has a comfortable bed, a friendly happy hour where you can meet other guests, and an excellent breakfast included. The hotel is set back from the main road just enough so that the traffic noise isn't really noticeable (with the windows closed), and it has an awesome backyard and deck for chilling out after a busy day at the beach. We didn't get to try the pool because it wasn't open yet for the season. It's only a very short walk to the beach too.

Beautiful gardens and outside deck. The room was large and spacious. Bathroom was great and shower nice. We could not stop talking about the comfortable bed - unreal. I did not want to get up each morning. The only secondary icee of puzzle was breakfast. This may be due to Covid but we were last shift in dining room each morning and food was never hot. Again as the situation improves, we hope then I would work on this. All else top notch. Comfortable historical beach inn.

Our room was very cozy. The location was in a great spot. However, the breakfast service was overwhelming. They only had one person that was handling breakfast service and the front desk. I really hope they can get more help, this can be very stressful for one person to handle. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Our first stay of many more to come!
When we checked in, the warm hospitality given to us was instantly a home run - the staff was so friendly and excited to have us ... the personalised print out of a welcome letter and the wine bar was spot on after a five hour drive from!
The room was amazing, with plenty of room we had a separate day bed for our son and so well decorated, the antique furnishings were a definite charm!
The breakfast was amazing, it was really well presented, the food was delicious and just the right amount and most importantly the young lady serving us was just so precious and kind - she really took great care of the family and had such a wonderful attitude!
When we misplaced my wife’s wedding ring, they all took such great care of us, help us search the entire place until we found it - all that extra hard work from the staff and they all kept a positive attitude!
