This hotel has incredible charm and history. But it is a grand old lady that needs some TLC. Check in and Check out is very easy but don't be surprised if you are managing this remotely as there is rarely anyone at the desk. With that being said, someone always seems to be available via a phone call.
The room was clean, the linens were clean and the towels were fresh and fluffy. The room did not have central heat, but there was a space heater placed in the room to provide comfort from the cold.
The space is charming and has character but the amenities are quite basic.

The reno looks good. This place was solid for the price. Was that a Tempurpedic mattress with reasonably nice pillows?! Countless hotels have awful pillows, including a place I recently stayed near Stowe for 200/night, so big plus here.
This might be the first hotel I've stayed at that hurt itself by NOT showing the full bathroom on the listing. It's surprisingly nice and clean!
Why not a 10/10? The bathtub drain plug didn't work, and there's no shade or curtain in the bathroom. Little things.
I'm also concerned that they might not have used mold-resistant paint in the bathroom-given that it's the same color as the rest of the room- and the bathroom has no ventilation beyond the window. Already black mold was appearing behind the hinges of the door to the room.
If I spent closer to 100 I might be a little less positive, but at under 80 you can do much worse.

An old hotel that looks great from the lobby but ends there. So many issues, starting with check in at 4pm done remote so no contact, then room was not cleaned so needed housekeeping needed to go fund me a clean room, the hotel appeared empty. The room, small, bed uncomfortable, shortage of elecrric outlets, tv did not work, only heat from constant humming electric floorboard heater. Rang front desk twice no answer. Only one night, and will be my last. Dealing with knee replacement, no elevator, just narrow creaky stairs. The best part was the lobby sitting room, other tham that, nothing to recommend here

I understand value, but the lower price for this room is not worth it. The hotel room was smaller than my high school bedroom. The bed was jammed against the window and the locking latches on both windows were broken so 13 degree air poured through the window onto our heads because the bed was jammed against the window. The carpet was disgusting, a spot so big, I thought a woman gave birth on the floor. The 20inch TV was ontop of a broken antique wardrobe dresser in the far corner of the room. No cable or sat TV, so no local channels. They had a ROKU they claimed to have live Hulu, but that isn't true. When you accessed Hulu, it wanted a password. The only thing that worked was Pluto TV. The room was so cold, my wife added my full length winter coat to stay warm. There is no human on the property, and the much ballyhooed restaurant was closed on Saturday with a pink sticky that was writted in a Sharpie "sorry closed :)" yes, they drew the imogee. The coat hanging rod was blocked by a 60's era end table, and a thrift store lamp, so you couldn't get to the closet space without moving the table until it hit the bed. The entire place is decorated with estate sale leftovers. No elevator and a 5 floor walkup for those on upper floors, all guests walked by my room on the 1st floor until around midnight. This hotel isn't even adequate enough to be used as college housing. There are many places that are value hotels in Lake Placid, I thought I would give this place a try. Never again.

Unmanned front desk. It would be helpful if someone worked the front desk. There is a keurig coffee machine in lobby. There should be someone to fill or have instructions as to where to get water.
Bed was very uncomfortable memory foam. Shower was tiny.
Overall, hotel is dated but clean.

The Pines is an old hotel and the owners are trying to bring it back to life. The bathroom was completely redone but without ventilation, except a window. No blinds on the bedroom windows and a repaired ceiling crack over the bed. No working elevator. For the price, it is good and hopefully they will be able to get enough bookings to restore more of the rooms.

It was nice. Nice old place. Never got to eat at the diner.the diner opens at 11 and closes at 9 we were site seeing . Close enough to walk to town

Enjoyed our stay. Good old charm feel. Clean, friendly and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

I was very impressed with the condition and location for the price. Simple rooms but clean and just two blocks from Main St (on a doable graded of street!!) Would come back for sure.

The rooms were clean, the staff was kind and helpful. Could use some updating (some peeling wall paper and paint) but for the price and close to main street, it was a good place to stay.

This was a very reasonable place to stay and very clean. Old hotel charm like it was right of the early 1900’s. Do not expect service like you normally get at any other hotel. We never had any exchange of towels or toiletries. No front desk staff. You pick up your key (a regular door key) at the front desk when you check in and that’s about it. A place to pick up room supplies would be great. With that being said we woùld definitely stay there again.

Great place in the heart of L Placid!

Neat old place with lots of charm! Nice staff and reasonably close to town. Only downside was the shower. Had to run water for 2-5 minutes and wait for it to warm up and the volume was was quite low.

Intriguing, convenient and cheap. No frills accommodation. Took me a while to figure out how the TV channels work but other than that, it’s hard to find a better bang for your buck.

I’ll start with the pros: I initially booked this hotel for one weekend and then needed to reschedule the trip relatively last minute. The hotel was very nice in accommodating the change in stay, despite it being so last minute. You can walk to Main Street of the town in under 10 minutes and the location is beautiful.
The cons: the hotel was dirty and falling apart from the inside out. When checking in there is no one at the desk (they leave your keys in an envelope with your name on the counter and you help yourself). I checked in around 5:00pm, so not an unreasonable hour. This means that if you need anything or have questions you have no one to ask. The room had wallpaper that was peeling, a huge stain all over the carpet that looked to be (attempted to be) hidden by a weirdly placed chair. The bathtub had paint peeling from it and the sink was rusted. It is clear that the room has not been clean, maintained, or updated.

Property was as expected for lower price in the area - older "historic hotel" so I was excited to check it out !

Very cool older property. Excited to see renovations while preserving the history here. Super close to main street, made it really easy and convenient to walk down for dinner and drinks. Restaurant in the hotel was also very good! Wish the hours were open a tad longer.

It was really quiet, and the people at the front desk were really nice. The place was simple, easy, and clean.

The hotel is old, but clean. Has a charm. The staff members made me feel like a star, because I participated in the local figure skating competition and won. LOL. The bistro downstairs has delicious food. The house red wine is fantastic. Everything was cheaper too.

Older hotel with a bit of charm. Easy checkin and checkout. Can't wait to see the future renovations.

We never checked in.
I left several messages over multiple days before leaving for stay and received no return call from anyone.
I've faced challenging travel conditions all over the world and never experienced anything quite like this.
I will not be booking stays at any affiliated properties in the future as I am uncomfortable traveling to locations where fully paid for rooms may or may not be available, staff may or may not exist, and guests' physical room keys are left out for anyone to access until they arrive.

The pines is quiet and affordable. There is a restaurant downstairs. It has lots of charm! It's an old place so it needs so TLC but looks like they try their best to keep it going and looking good. Very clean and comfortable rooms.

Essentially an upgraded hostel as you have a room with a private bathroom. Stayed here one night as our primary hotel did not have availability for the first night of our trip. No microwave or minifridge. Beds are HARD. 2 pillows for each queen bed. Wallpaper is peeling off everywhere. Rugs are stained. Window molding is breaking and extremely drafty. Blinds broken and let light in bright and early. Walls are paper thin and you can here everything. Best thing going for it is the restaurant they lease out space to and location. If you need a cheap no frills college student travelling abroad vibe this is a place for you!

The staff was great at helping me shift my check in to an earlier day as we were able to get up to Lake Placid 2 days earlier than was planned. Check in was easy since the key was at the front desk when we arrived. Our room was clean and warm. The beds were comfortable and we slept well all week. If you want your room cleaned up, new towels or just getting trash emptied, you do need to request it. We had a very temperamental television. It took some effort to get the picture to appear properly and when turning the tv "off", you actually had to unplug it from the wall.
The Restaurant (Red Neck Bistro) was outstanding.
Overall, I would stay here, again, in a minute. But it would be nice to get a little more frequent spruce up of the room.

Based on the reviews prior to my say, it was better than I expected. Being on the “1xx” floor was easy. Our room was clean as well as the bathroom/tub-shower.
Unfortunately for our other associate she was up on the “3xx” floor. With no elevator and equipment/gear she had to walk flights of stairs only to find her room filthy dirty with animal hair in the bed and grit/grime in the tub.
I went and saw her room. Disappointedly it was true, I felt so bad for her. I believe housing keeping missed or didn’t do a through inspection before making this room available.
Fortunately or unfortunately you get what you pay for.
I understand the Pine Inn is under new ownership. Hopefully they make changes.

I did not book for those dates. I thought I had cancelled a mistaken date. I did not stay in October. I am not happy. I want a refund. I never stayed there thinkinging it was cancelled.

I made a mistake when booking and the staff quickly made the necessary corrections and got me into a room.

I'll be the first to admit, we hit "sort by cheapest" on the list and boom, this was the hotel that made the top of the list. All we ask is that it's clean and safe. We got in a bit later than we wanted (around 7 pm) and we had the most odd way to check-in we've ever had. There were two small envelopes. One with our name on it and a room number. Inside was our key. A note was left on the counter saying this was the way you check in after hours. Also, here's the wifi password.
You know what... we liked it! Quick and easy. Up we went.
The room was small and perfect for our needs. I left one star off because there was mildew on the ceiling of the bathroom... because there was no fan in the bathroom. That is the ONLY criticism I've got. I will extend all the grace in the world to the new owners. As I understand it, they just bought the place and are renovating it.
Look, if you're looking for a bed for the night that won't kill your budget, this is it. Clean sheets and pillows.
If we come back to Lake Placid, I'll be very interested in seeing the changes they will make.

Good value. The room is very spacious.

GREAT place. The lobby, the rooms, location, and best of all...the staff. They treat you like family, not as clients. Rare these days. This goes for EVERY person I met and interacted with.

This place is haunted and extremely dirty. There is no fan or ventilation, we had to sleep with the windows open while it was raining. We could hear the people in the room next to us talking and watching tv past 1am.

The attached Bistro has excellent food for its limited menu.
