Lovely hosts, great (vegetarian option) food, quiet remote location close enough to a city, hot bath....its hard to put it all in words...it was everything great into the smallest detail and great value for money!

The warmth and hospitality was amazing - I had a lovely time & lovely chats. Felt really at home. The food was beautifully prepared and very generous - got to try sundried rice harvested from their own paddy across from the house (how special is that!?) and home-made plum liqueur, various pickles, and dishes I hadn't tried before all with local ingredients (so good!). After dinner curled up by the fire with a book and desert. The house itself is very charming and my tatami cozy. The walk from Furuyama back to Ayabe was really worth doing, the mountain is magic. As was the Tea ceremony, it felt really authentic and the lady who was my Tea Master (i forgot her name) was incredibly elegant, knowledgeable and generous. I wish I could have stayed longer; I will definitely be back!

The food was amazing! Sayaka is a great cook!

Sayaka and Nicolas were very gracious and hospitable hosts! The room was clean and comfortable. Sayaka wowed us with her great cooking skills, and we truly enjoyed her sumptuous meals! We took the opportunity to walk and cycle around the area using bicycles provided by Sayaka and Nicolas, and it was a wonderful experience given our first time in Japan’s countryside. We went there as a couple, and the next time we visit Osaka/Kyoto, we will definitely go to Furumaya House again!

Quiet remote location, lovely hosts, charming old house, amazing dinner and breakfast, so refreshing!

Sayaka and Nikola were super nice :) and it's great to get away from the bustle of Kyoto for a day:)
