  • Avenida de las Playas & New Town: Avenida de las Playas, the main street in town, runs for nearly three miles along the southern waterfront with beaches on one side and jam packed with restaurants, shops, and attractions including bowling and casinos on the other side. Playa Grande is the place to be for amazing sunsets, and many nightclubs here stay open until six in the morning. You’ll find plenty of accommodations spread out on the streets inland of this area.

  • Jameos del Agua & Cueva de los Verdes: Jameos del Agua was created inside a volcanic tunnel by the island’s architect, César Manrique, as his masterpiece and Center for Art, Culture and Tourism. It is a blend of nature and art with a sparkling blue man-made lagoon, in addition to a series of caves including a theatre, cafe, and pools. Cueva de los Verdes is a series of caves created by volcanic eruptions and used as a local hideout to protect from pirate invasions. Both attractions are close to each other and found on the north side of the island in Punta Mujeres.
  • Timanfaya National Park: Timanfaya National Park is an otherworldly natural phenomenon of volcanic peaks and craters. It’s highly advised to get there early, as it’s mighty popular and an experience not to be missed. A geothermal restaurant serves three-course meals cooked by the heat of the volcano. Camel tours on a short route are also available.
  • Museo Atlantico: Located off the coast of Playa Blanca and accessible to snorkelers and scuba divers lies Museo Atlantico, the largest underwater museum in Europe. It opened in 2017 featuring a surreal collection of 400 sculptures by artist Jason deCaires Taylor, and was designed to attract marine life and vegetation.
  • Teguise Market: 30 minutes up the coast from Playa del Carmen is the biggest market in Lanzarote, the Teguise Market. Everything is available here, from clothes and jewelry, to souvenirs and food. Find the best value for tourist goods on the island, but still expect to haggle prices.

  • Playa Chica: Between Old Harbor and New Town, sheltered by rocks in the water is an intimate and lovely beach called Playa Chica, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. Popular with locals, some regard it as the best beach in town.
  • Biosfera: Biosfera is a three-level shopping center built into a huge hole of volcanic rock. In addition to a large variety of stores and restaurants, there is also an open-air cinema, dinosaur themed mini golf, and children's playground.
  • Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park: Take the free shuttle from town to Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park, where you’ll find a wild-west-themed water and animal park. There are animal exhibits with parrots, tigers, and giant turtles, as well as animal shows with dolphins and sea lions.
