Great property. Great host. 10/10 would stay again.
Seriously tho, I know Amsterdam well and this houseboat was a more than ideal launching pad. Expecting to try and stay there again next time I’m in town.

We have staying in many properties, in many cities, over the years and Jack’s houseboat in Amsterdam was among the best. Well equipped, very convenient location to see the sights, and just far enough away from crowds to be restful.

Best Amsterdam Trip!
Been to Amsterdam a handful of times but never stayed on a houseboat, Jack’s place was amazing!!
From the swans who would come to greet us on the back deck every morning to the awesome little neighborhood away from the main tourist areas but still close to everything, it honestly couldn’t have been better. Train station to take you all over town is conveniently located only about 3 minutes walk from the houseboat. The houseboat’s “floating gardens” even offers a little privacy, your own little garden oasis even thought you are in the middle of the city. Huge windows also, lots of natural light and stunning canal views to wake up to!
Jack was a fabulous host, a laid back local who lives close by and answered any questions we had promptly. He even gave us a ride to the airport on our way out, saved us from having to lug our suitcases around town from train to train.
Not sure I can visit Amsterdam again and go back to standard hotels, Jack’s houseboat was truly a unique experience that I’ll never forget. Will definitely be back, 10/10!!

Loved our unique stay !
We were looking for a unique stay in Amsterdam and Jacks place didn’t disappoint. The location is great, and was quiet at night. It was really hot the 4 days we were there but the houseboat kept cool with the open windows and cool breeze off the water. We enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the passing boats and the resident swan family whose nest is right next to the house. We were really happy to be able to do some laundry too! Thanks for a great end of our vacation Jack!

Great place!
We stayed at the house boat over a long weekend and it was a great place to be located to explore the city and local area. Would definitely recommend!

Clean, light and airy and a perfect location.
The house boat was perfect, the location was ideal - a short walk to all Amsterdam's attractions and far enough from the main action for a peaceful, relaxing visit.
Clean and bright with everything we needed to make our trip enjoyable, I would highly recommend it.

A great Amsterdam hidden treasure
This is a real jem of a place to stay. Really well laid out the houseboat has a natural flow to it and with its bohemian decor, has a really cool vibe to it.
Excellently equipped also with all you could want for your stay, a full kitchen with oven, hob and microwave. coffee maker, toaster and breakfast bar. A sunken corner bath with shower, and a big double bed looking out down the canal.
It is a really great location too, really quiet and peaceful, yet close to some really interesting neighbourhoods to explore and still not too far from the centre of the city.
Plenty of local bars and cafes within a short walk.
All in all a place that just made you feel welcome and at home, can't wait to return

Danke Jack

Awesome
We spent a week in Paris with our one year old Sonya, and Jack's houseboat was exactly the break we needed. First, you can't go wrong. The home used to be a recording studio. Thus, it's got this great, tasteful 70's funk decor. Jack is also a renaissance man. Beyond music he's a carpenter and electrician. The bathroom, the shower, the kitchen...all the wood work and lighting was done by himself. The attention and detail put into the houseboat is apparent to a degree in the photos, but rest assured, once you are there, you'll be even more impressed.
When we arrived Jack had fruit for us, beer in the fridge, ideas and advice on where to go and what to see. He took us for a boat ride. And for a fee he drove us to the airport. There's a small pad that you can't see well in the photos with room for a couple of chairs so you can sit outside and watch the canal and feed the ducks. The windows are also big and beautiful so you can see the canal from all sides of the houseboat.
Again, we have a one year old. Jack was able to provide us with a crib. Other than moving a few things we were able to make the boat baby friendly within 5 minutes.
We can't say enough for the houseboat and Jack's hospitality. We will definitely be returning.

Serene Waterside Residence
We loved our time on this houseboat. The interior was tastefully decorated and very cozy, and included everything you may need in a temporary residence. Our host Jack was very friendly and accommodating and we can only recommend this houseboat. It is located just outside the center of the city so you can get away from the noise and bustle of the city but always be within walking distance of major destinations. The boat is surprisingly spacious, and sometimes you forget you are literally floating on the canal. It was a unique and fantastic experience, and we can only recommend it for anyone wanting an authentic time in Amsterdam.
PS: Jack had four tourist passes which he let us borrow that gave us entry into all of the major museums. Great bonus.

A great place to stay
A great place to stay in Amsterdam. The boat was well equipped for all four of us. It was spacious and had everything we needed to feel very comfortable.
We walked everywhere and the boat was handy for all our sightseeing.
Jack was really helpful and his attention to detail in the boat was very impressive.

Wonderful!
This houseboat is fabulous! We have stayed in a lot of apartments on our trip around the world, but none come close to this! Jack is an excellent host. The love and thoughtfulness with which he outfitted his boat is obvious. It has everything you need and more! A gourmet chef would be happy to cook in this kitchen, if you are interested in preparing some of your own meals. The canal itself is quiet, far enough away from center to be peaceful, yet close enough to be convenient to the attractions.
We cannot recommend it highly enough!
Thanks, Jack !

We've been to Amsterdam a few times over the years, but staying in a houseboat is definintely the best way to experience it. There's nothing like watching swans and ducks swimming past your window along with your morning coffee. The owner, Jack, and his fiancee, Liesbeth, couldn't have been more kind and helpful. Jack picked us up from the airport for a very reasonable fee, had equipped the space with everything we needed, ie, coffee, tea, fruit, wine, oj, and snacks; it was completely renovated w/a full kitchen, stove, microwave, fridge, bathtub, washer/dryer, and even an optional tuxedo kitty, Hank. (He comes in only if he's invited, but is extremely friendly and sweet--great for those of us who miss our pets.) The houseboat is near the center, transportation, markets, shops, and was very convenient. It's a more interesting way to see the city than staying in a hotel, and even more down-home than an apt. Jack and Liesbeth took us on a tour of the canals, which seemed much more personalized than the tourist boats, we stopped at a funky pop-up cafe on the water, and really got a better sense of the whole dutch zeitgeist and milieu. Liesbeth gave us local restaurant recommendations, one of which was in a repurposed pirate radio tower, and we watched the sunset onto the most spectacular 180 degree view of the sea. Unlike too many places in San Francisco, however, the food was very good, too.
We were lucky enough to have some very good weather, so it was perfect for walking. Jack took my husband, also for a very reasonable price, on a tour of nearby Waterland: typical Dutch scenes with windmills, cheese markets, and Delft china. We could have also taken day trips by train, so a car rental was completely unnecessary. As the houseboat wasn't actually a boat, more of a floating house, we were only aware of living on the water when we saw waterfowl sailing past, otherwise the water was completely stable and placid. It is surrounded by the lovely floating gardens Jack had put in, so we were thoroughly charmed. as my husband said about our stay: "there's not one thing I didn't like!"
I'd wholeheartedly recommend this property to friends or to anyone out there in the the ether looking for a personalized, interesting place to stay. if you've been to Amsterdam before, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how staying here will change your perspective. But if you've never been here or overseas before, I envy you, because you're in for a rare "Dutch" treat.

Our stay at the houseboat could not have been better. Our entire family had a wonderful time. Jack graciously provided info to help us enjoy our stay, both before we arrived and upon arrival, with a detailed welcome book describing the the history of the houseboat, the amenities on the boat, and in the neighborhood. The house was in perfect condition -- immaculate and equipped with everything from full kitchen, to toiletries, to snacks in the fridge, wine and coffee. The neighborhood is quiet and lovely, as well as offering restaurants, cinema, grocery, etc just around the corner. Easy walking distance to the center of town and the metro and tram lines. We thoroughly enjoyed our evenings on the outdoor patio on the canal -- what a treat to sty on a boat. And we especially enjoyed reading the Boat People during our stay, to get a taste of what boat living means in Amsterdam. Not only would we recommend this to anyone vacationing in Amsterdam, but we hope we are lucky enough to return! Thanks for everything, Jack.

Nice. A boat with all the creature comforts, and just steps away from anything one can think of doing/being/having in Amsterdam. Yup, nice. Even a piano! And a manual titled: "Everything". Covers just about everything. Jack and Liesbeth are da host and hostess and da bomb. I'll be back. Probably next week.
