Peaceful quiet location, do as much or as little as you want.
A couple of maintenance issues, but we were there in the rainy season so all part of the adventure.

Great location, right on the beach. The first floor terrace restaurant was lovely and the food was great. It offered good value for money and the boat trip was definitely worth doing, along with a trip to see the flying foxes! Brilliant!

We loved the amazing and various food they made us everyday. The terasse when we could chill and the super nice and helpful staff. Last but not not least, the nice discussion with Dennis, you is running the lodge.
It was hot inside if the aircon was not working in the room.

Very nice economy hotel right on the water and near the ferry.Owner runs a good hotel.

Excellent view over the bay, good food, excursions are available
A few hours with no electricity, warm beer, very little illumination (eating in the dark), Mkoani does not have any pubs or other entertainment

We loved the fresh food that Dennis cooked every night.
Also there was a really friendly feel about the whole place.
there was nothing we did not like.

Nothing, everything was perfect and in line with the expectations

Our stay was great, as had 1 week in Lala lodge and it was a very relaxing time. Its a very unique place as we saw no other tourists the whole time we were there! Dennis helps to organise trips for you, we did the Misali island which was great (although quite expensive) and visited the flying foxes. The food is excellent, the best we've had in Zanzibar, with big portions and they were able to accommodate for gluten free eating. The staff are so friendly and great to talk to. Thanks for our stay!
The bathrooms could be updated

We booked Lala Lodge as it is located close to the ferry terminal - approximately 10 mins walk - but they were so kind to pick us up by car so we didn’t need to carry all the luggage (free ride). They have one double and one twin right under the larger veranda / restaurant area. Plus a couple of rooms further back. Price tag is ok and quite good for the island. You can contact Pemba Moonlight if you want to explore the North. Ilham runs the place with Dennis from ZA and she is a great chef. Very kind and massive portions. Pemba is in an early state of tourism and hopefully this state will remain so nature is not affected too much… We stayed in the twin with sea view.
What we liked:
- Really nice dinners, big portions not too expensive (around 10$)
- Great view.
- Mangroves partly in front.
- Day trips to beautiful Misali Island available.
- Organization of other excursions with their driver.
- They managed to arrange everything we asked for during Ramadan.
- Free pick up from the ferry pier.
- Friendly staff.
- Authentic atmosphere.
- Swimming in turquoise water during high tide.
- Due to low tide you have the same issue like at most places on the island: Swimming becomes tricky.
- Wifi is expensive. We know from Unguja that a monthly rate of 250$ is normal so “internet thieves” try to snatch the signal if the wifi is switched on permanently. So if you (fair) use it you need to turn the router off after. And the signal is not breathtaking but enough for bookings, etc…
- Pemba is expensive so is the transportation (unless u take a front seat of a DalaDala from the roundabout at the pier.)
- The facilities could use a bit of love and attention.
- Low water pressure.
The rest was fine. At the end you need a private room and the sea with some good food ;-)

The stuff, the food and great communication with owner and stuff.
The room was outdated, the location is close to ferry terminal and the water it is not clean in front of the house.

Lala Lodge is an ideal starting point and introduction to the Pemba island! You can actually see its welcoming main building with the lovely terrace when arriving and disembarking from the ferry.
The owners have assembled a very friendly and efficient team who will help you with everything you might need – from organizing trips and booking your tickets or suggesting other places of interest to the crown of the day – an excellent dinner at the family table on the romantic terrace with your fellow travellers. Do not miss the Door to Pemba, the one and only Lala Lodge!
Nothing to report here, except that we didn't like to leave :)

Dennis, the owner of the lodge was very helpful in organizing everything we needed. The food was excellent and the staff were very nice.
It is a very nice place to start your vacation as everything is very easy to arrange
The location of the lodge is far from snorkeling and diving sites, and it requires to arrange a bout each time you want to go.

What a place!
A true haven of peace and relaxation on the beautiful island of Pemba.
For the adventurous and for the conformists alike, Dennis is a superb host, amazing character and grand chef (breakfast and supper were always of top quality).
I'm looking forward to visiting the Lala Lodge again soon.

Outstanding services, the woman who took care of us during our stay (I do not have her name) even brought us the breakfast to the ferry at 7am as we had to run earlier to catch it! Thank you again for your kindness.

The location is beautifull. The owner is amazing for the guests. We had an amazing experience.the owner is a good cook, Extremely friendly for the guests. He made us smile every time. Good conversations, he arranged a private tour to a beautiful Island. And he arranged airtickets in a short time. A big thanks for everything they did to make our stay unforgetable. The staff is also so friendly and funny. If u ever in doubt to make a reservation to stay here... Just make that freaking booking!! You wont regret. On top of it.the shower is very good and all the time hot water. Beautiful view at the ocean and harbour. Very tasty food and nice room with AC.
One more time..
Many many many thanks.

Denis was a fantastic host, very friendly and helpful. He cooked dinner for us and offered to prepare a takeaway breakfast for our ferry journey. The location was very convenient, a mere 10-minute walk away from the ferry. The view from the lounge across the bay was lovely. The room had hot water, a mosquito net and aircon.
The bathroom could have done with a more thorough cleaning, and the double bed was a bit small and not very comfy.

Conveniently close to the port if you are arriving by ferry. Lovely breakfast and dinners. Dennis can arrange any outing you might be interested in.

Good location not far away from ferry terminal. Friendly and helpful staff and a host. They organized boats to islands and a trip by car around an island even so I was alone here.
Didn't reply when I asked them to meet me at a ferry terminal as they promised. There were some problems with hot water but they eventually solved an issue.

The view is insanely beautiful since the house is on stilts and you can hear the waves while sleeping, eating, reading. This is a very relaxing place and you can only enjoy the peacefulness of the lodge.
Dennis, the owner, will make everything in his power for you to have a pleasant stay. He’s a really good cook and he gathers everybody living at the lodge for dinner, allowing people to meet up and share about their stories. It was such a nice thing to do to meet cool people everyday. The rest of the staff is super sweet and available if you need anything.
The room was okay because there is the A/C but the single beds were super small (it happened to me before in Tanzania/Zanzibar, it’s not the first time) and I couldn’t fit even though I’m not super tall (1.63). So maybe take a double bed if you don’t want to have your feet out of the bed while sleeping.

Dennis and Eddy are very warm welcoming. Dennis has travelled all of Africa and is able to give fantastic advice. He will give you all the tips and tricks for your travels.
The lodge is lovely, right on the beach overlooking the mangroves and the ocean. Leaving your room and walking out onto the deck and hearing the ocean every morning and every night instantly puts you at ease. You feel so relaxed and safe in Dennis' lodge.
It's great because you aren't locked off from the locals. It's in the heart of town which I really like. Tanzanian people are very gentle and very kind.
Dennis hires and trains local people which I really like. He takes the time to upskill them which is really valuable.
Dennis organises everything for you and has his system down like clockwork. The food is very good. I went to Misali island - you simply must go to Misali. Dennis is great in organising, providing you with a packed lunch to take with you.
He knows Pemba very well.
My only regret is not staying longer.
Everything is great

Many thanks to the very welcoming Denis, the owner, who helped us in everything we asked him! All the staff has been very welcoming, and the price was the best choice. A place i would return, when possible.

Owners are such good people, they helped us a lot and also recommend good things to do in the island. The location is perfect, right in front of the ocean. You can canoe, swim, take a ride to different places.
They are really good cookers as well, meals and breakfast were delicious. Build a lodge in Pemba island is a great idea.
Thank you again
