Paying for parking lot

The hotel was near my meeting location and guests can enjoy a free area shuttle run by another hotel across the street that is really convenient. The amenities are fairly standard for the lodging category.
I was turned off by the parking fee (which really is not for a secured lot; and one could easily park on the street right outside) - technically that there is a parking fee is disclosed on booking.com though with a tiny symbol, but the amount was not disclosed. Also there were attempts to charge for internet unless one signs up for a rewards program, which is not typical for lower end hotels. I felt nickel and dimed.
