I just got home from my stay at L’Augustine from 12/28 through 1/1 with my husband, 14 y.o. daughter and 17 y.o. son- and we thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations. Carolyne, the owner, is the consummate hostess— she makes you feel welcome and is concerned with your comfort. And she puts out a delicious, healthy, and creative breakfast making this an incredible value (and simplifying one meal which wouldn’t require a consensus of all 4 of us for selecting a place to eat!) While we were there were there she served homemade yogurt with fresh fruit, breads with delicious jams, juice and French press coffee—- in addition to a poached egg with cheese and smoked salmon on an English muffin one day, vanilla and nut pancakes another; French toast filled with apples or chocolate; an egg with cheese baked into a bagel half another. Generally, breakfast was served around 8:45 or so. I’m an early riser normally, but on vacation I managed to sleep in. And if I hadn’t— this is definitely worth the wait. Another major benefit was meeting g the other guests— we met people traveling from France and from New Zealand, by way of Mexico— and it was so fun to share stories and learn about their experiences! The rooms on the second floor were perfect for us— 2 rooms ; one with a queen and a small (short— would be ideal for a toddler) daybed and the other with a queen and a twin. Perfect for my teens. The linens were clean and pressed and very cozy. The matttresses wee also comfortable. The rooms are decorated in antiques and a decent size. Outside of the rooms is a sitting area with a rattan sofa, 2 chairs and a tv. The B&B also offers free internet— a life saver! Although very cold outside- the inside was warm and cozy. The rooms and bath have their own thermostats with efficient baseboard heat.the sitting area was always comfortable, too. The house is historic and if you love the detail of an old Home- like wide plank pumpkin pine floors- claw foot tub, etc— you will really enjoy staying here. The location- LOVE this! Just a short 2 block walk to St Jean (outside the city wall) - super close to markets, pharmacy, liquor store, great and trendy restaurants ( check out Le Hobbit and Buvette Scott if you can!) and bars. Am easy walk to see all the city has to offer! We costed during historic low temps of around -12F to highs around -1F! But bundled up (snow pants became a part of our regular wardrobes!) and we didn’t miss a thing— walked over 5 miles every day to everything from sightseeing to xcountry skiing at Plains of Abraham. We even took the short walk up to Grand Alleee to participate in the New Year celebration! I would recommend staying here if these things appeal to you!
