Patricia was a wonderful hostess. Her cottage is charming, super clean, and very conveniently located. She gave us great tips on restaurants and nearby gardens and even dropped shower gel for us mid-stay. Very handy to have washer/dryer access for a longer stay. Highly recommend.

Stayed 4 nights. The neighborhood is great for walking around. Elementary School down the street, big playground, kids and parents everywhere. Well cared for homes and gardens. We went to Heist (food carts) twice, and Toast twice (breakfast place at 52nd and Steele).

Just like the story of the three bears, Patricia's cottage was not too small, not too big, it was just right! Our family of three truly enjoyed our stay. The cottage had everything we needed to enjoy Portland and its surrounds. After long days hiking, we enjoyed relaxing on the front porch area with a drink before getting into the comfortable beds where we slept soundly. The neighborhood felt safe and quiet and we were able to enjoy restaurants close by (Recommend PDX Thai). I wouldn't hesitate to rent this space again if we find ourselves back in PDX.

I stayed at this lovely cottage for 2 weeks. This location has great access to downtown, many college's, great neighborhoods, while still being in a quiet area with easy on street parking.
For some guests, the staircase may be an inconvenience. But, I was able to maneuver around it easily. I loved that this cottage had everything I needed. I like to think of it as a tiny house on steriods, with all the convenience of a larger home. Gas stove, dishwasher, small washer and dryer, and an open living room.
Patricia, was wonderful! Very easy to communicate with and a very quiet neighbor.
Should I need to stay for extended times in PDX area, I wouldnt hesitate trying to book this spot again.

Great location in the Woodstock neighborhood. Cottage is small but serviceable for two. Staircase is in an odd location, otherwise the bed was comfortable. Shower is small. There was a slight hiccup getting into property but after that there was very good communication with the owner.

This property was great for my family because it was close to Reed College and had plenty of beds for my two college aged kids and me. The manager was very helpful when my luggage got lost and with other needs that came up. I would stay again. Thank you!

We loved this little place! The outdoor porch got much use as we took all our meals out there in good weather, even getting to enjoy hummingbirds that flitted by at breakfast time. The place is thoughtfully appointed and ingeniously arranged to make the most of a small space. I would say it was a bit challenging to prepare gourmet meals as per the listing, even in this deligthful kitchen which features a gas stove, dishwasher, deep sink and fridge. There were pots and pans and a small food processor, even a salad spinner and a coffee grinder. But some of the basics of cooking were missing such as measuring cups, whisk, rubber spatula, rolling pin, cooling rack, etc. Despite this we were able to cook up plenty of great meals. Patricia was very responsive also, and when we asked for a kitchen pitcher, she quickly provided one. Overall, this place was really sweet and we would not hesitate to stay there again! Thank you, Patricia, we loved this place!

Patricia the property owner was communicative right from the start! The property was very clean and cozy, just as described. We attended a wedding in downtown Portland so we were in and out quite a bit, so the proximity to downtown was great! The area is very nice and secure with lots of families walking through the neighborhood. We would love to come back sometime when we are in the area.

My wife and I and our two young kids stayed here for 2 full months. We loved the space-- small but well-designed and plenty big for the 4 of us. Really nice quality kitchen countertops, sink, oven, cabinets, and dishwasher. Tons of windows and 3 skylights means lots of sunlight, and the vaulted ceiling made it feel very spacious.
The outdoor space is small and cozy but big enough for our kids to play. They loved it. A 6-ft fence surrounds the house and there's a lock on the gate, so nothing crazy for our kids to get into and no way for them to escape while playing :)
Patricia has been a great host. She has promptly answered any questions I had during our stay and has been very kind.
The location is great. We did family walks through the neighborhood almost every day during the past two months (what the heck else is there to do during a global pandemic?!?) and have really enjoyed looking at all the houses. Woodstock park (and elementary school) are a 1-minute walk up the street. Grocery stores, coffee shops, restaurants, and dispensaries (along with a lot of other types of shops) are an easy 5 to 10 minute walk from the house. Always felt very safe walking around this neighborhood with my family. Beautiful tree-lined streets and lots of old, quaint homes with tons of character. We plan to settle in Portland and the Woodstock neighborhood is at the top of our list to buy a home.
Overall a very pleasant experience. Highly recommended.

Not a rental for large people
As a licensed home inspector, I would not pass the location of the spiral stairway. Someone exiting the bedroom could easily hit their head on the metal staircase. The clearance is particularly bad on the right side. The stairway itself is very steep and the railing is loose and doesn't inspire confidence. I would not want children using this stairway. It would be best just to remove the stairs since the loft space has very low headroom.
Another issue is the lack of supplied toilet paper. The owner stresses only one roll is supplied. It turned out to be the 1/8 of a roll already there and we ran out a 11:30 pm. Come on you're in the hospitality industry go to Costco and get your guests at least an extra roll.

Clean and Convenient
Clean, very convenient and comfortable spot to stay in a nice SE neighborhood. Easy walk to shops, restaurants, playground. Kitchen is well equipped. The only downside is the steep staircase to the loft in front of the bedroom door. We left the bathroom light on to avoid it in the dark. We’d stay here again and would rate it 5 stars if not for the staircase.

Unacceptable Fire Hazard
This is the first completely negative review I have felt compelled to write about a VRBO lodging. The primary problem with this habitation is the construction of a spiral staircase smack dab in the middle of the doorway to the bedroom. This means that every time one enters or exits the room you must contort your body so as not to hit your head. I cannot imagine that there is a single fire inspector in America, let alone the City of Portland’s rental housing inspection program, who would approve a staircase blocking the only exit from a bedroom. It could be a lethal hazard in the case of a fire.
I note that the pictures of the cottage artfully disguise the placement of the staircase so as to hide the danger.
This staircase leads to a very low loft space. The owners note in their agreement that they are “not currently licensed to rent this space.” The owners try to eliminate their responsibility by saying that “Guests choosing to use the loft space do so at his/her own risk.” I offer free legal advice to the owners that this disclaimer does not relieve them of responsibility for any injury caused by their negligence in the construction or use of the loft.
A second reason for this negative review is my complaint about the excessive sum charged for the cleaning of this small cottage. I have rented at least 9 units in Southeast Portland and this exorbitant charge is by far the largest such fee. Adding insult to injury, the owners require at checkout that tenants strip the beds; place all linens in the washer and run it. They ask that all trashed recycling be taken out and tenants sweep the floor of the cottage and the porch as well. This all seems excessive, especially given the large cleaning fee. I have never encountered such demands before and I did not thoroughly comply.
A third issue was when we arrived there was an unpleasant odor in the cottage. We opened some windows and that resolved the issue. However, the next morning we could not get the heat to turn on to offset the cold. We emailed the owner about the thermostat. We did not get a response until the day after we vacated the property. We never got the heat working.
Finally I note that the damage deposit seems excessive and is larger than any encountered before.
In sum we give this property a one star rating and warn other renters that they will encounter an unacceptable hazard.

Great location for walking.
We really enjoyed our stay in the Woodstalk neighborhood. Loved that we could walk to many restaurants and two grocery stores. The rental unit is clean and well equipped. The owner checked on a few times to make sure we had everything we needed.

Great place to stay in the Portland area
The cottage was just the right amount of room for our family of four on our short trip to the Portland area. The location was great -- close proximity to a coffee shop, restaurant and even a church. The loft worked really well for the boys. The only minor issue I had was with the condition of the floor. We followed the rules and left our shoes outside (as we do in our own home too). Our socks or bare feet became dusty and dirty as soon as we walked in, all the way to the bedroom. A quick use of a Swiffer would've done the trick but I couldn't find one. A clean floor would've made for a perfect visit.

Great Place!
Patricia's cottage was perfect for my husband and I and our 13 year old. Very comfortable and clean. Had everything we needed for our three night stay. Great neighborhood near the property for groceries, ice cream, craft beer and food. Highly recommended!

Super clean
We were pleased with most aspects of this 'tiny home'. It is very clean and well appointed. The stairs are not suitable for older people and the staircase in front of the bedroom door is problematic. The check out cleaning requirements seem a little excessive given the high cleaning fee.
