My partner and I LOVED staying here - from the super comfortable bed to little details like the charging outlets inside the nightstand drawers and the towel warmer, to the optional sauna, it was a fantastic home base for our Portland adventures. We loved exploring the neighborhood nearby, and also appreciated being so close to both Forest Park and the Arboretum. Would definitely stay here again!

We absolutely loved our stay here! It was the perfect home base while we explored the Portland and surrounding areas. We even ventured 90 miles west to Astoria and Cannon Beach for a taste of the Oregon coast. What a treat that was!
The rental is spacious, clean, on a quiet street, and has everything you need for a relaxing stay. It’s close to all of the businesses Nob Hill and the Pearl District offer. Mary-Yoko was the perfect host; incredibly knowledgeable about the surrounding area and nearby things to do. I highly recommend seeing Wahkeena and Multnomah Falls, 30 minutes outside of Portland and short 1/4 mile hikes to incredible falls.
We will definitely look to see if this rental is available next time we travel to Portland. Thanks for everything Mary!

Very tastefully appointed and spacious apartment in a beautiful neighborhood! Had everything we needed and a very comfortable bed. The location is up in the hills in a beautiful forested setting but is still close to all of the restaurants and shops just down the hill. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend

How lucky we were to find Mary-Yoko's wonderful apartment. The house sits on a beautifully wooded hillside above Portland. She has converted the lower level into a serene retreat complete with a private balcony that made a great spot for morning coffee. The interior is spacious, very comfortably furnished, and accented with interesting artworks. Mary-Yoko welcomed us and suggested a few restaurants as well as hiking trails nearby, one of which house we took shortly after arriving. We found everything we needed in the apartment. We were pleasantly surprised that a place that felt so removed from city bustle, could be so close to city amenities. Very convenient. We loved it and would stay there again in a flash given the chance.

Wonderful stay in gorgeous, forested area close to parks, dining, Japanese gardens. The unit was fully equipped for a relaxing trip to Portland. We felt like we were in a treehouse retreat! Thank you for sharing your beautiful place, Mary-Yoko!

I loved it!! This was my first experience with any VRBO in my entire life and it was well beyond my expectations.
It's even better than the photos because those cannot convey the peacfulness of the place. It is so high up in the trees with a deck to sit on for breakfast or a sunset glass of wine...and yes, they have actual proper wine glasses.
The house is in a gorgeous and safe neighborhood as well. I walked every morning at sunrise to breathe in the beautiful landscapes, gardens, and variuos views of the mountains across the river. It's very hilly. I always felt comfortable and safe walking around there. The woodland trail to Pittock Mansion is super close by too, if you want to do some forest bathing in the giant trees.
The place is very private with well appointed cooking things, pretty tea pots, basic spices etc. The box of cooking stuff I mailed to myself was totally unnecessary. Since I was there for 8 nights, the kitchen set up was reall important to me.
I loved the big soft couch and the nice books to look at. So many fun dvds so choose from too. No problems with the internet. Oh, and this is so unusual compared to my regular hotel stays...the lighting is perfect! What a relief to have so many choices of atmosphere.
By the way, if you are a foodie like me, lots of great restaurants and cool shops very very close by.
I was spending a lot of time at the Portland Japanese Gardens, so this place was the absolute perfect compliment to that.
Lovely!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Zen Garden. The neighborhood is beautiful, quiet and we felt very safe. The only recommendation we would offer is a full length mirror installed.

This was our first time renting a place like this and we couldn't have had a better experience. Mary and her husband were very accomodating letting us arrive early and even stay late. They even went as far as opening another one of their rooms so that my 16 year old son and I didn't have to share a room. It was very clean and so peaceful. The perfect place to come home to after all of the hussle and bussle of the city.

While this property is attached to the owners home- it always felt like we had our own space. Access to a balcony, private stairs. Well equipped with all of the essentials. The space was warm and inviting. As were the owners. We walked 20 minutes to downtown for coffee, food, etc. Close to trailhead. Beautiful neighborhood. Felt remote and accessible to the city all at the same time.

This property was beautiful and the details were extremely thoughtful. Perfect as a home-base for my partner and I to explore Portland. Very quiet and peaceful environment and vibe. We would definitely stay here again.

There was a change in flight and we needed to check-in earlier than expected. There was a small fee for this, but it was better than finding a hotel at the last minute. The property was easy to find and in a nice area. Checking-in was easy,
Mary-Yoko and Terry were very helpful and contacting them for assistance was a breeze. The place was clean, and it was fairly accurate to the listing. I couldn't ask for better place to stay. I would stay here again if we come back to the west coast.

We loved our stay at this relaxing & beautiful unit and enjoyed getting to know the hosts. This basement unit overlooks beautiful nature & is well-appointed with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The location is tucked away in a very nice area, but just a quick walk to everything NW 23rd street has to offer. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful Ambiance as well as Amenities
This is our first time staying here and we really like the place. The location feels secluded but you are very close to forest park or can walk to down town easily. The owner was very friendly and had the place perfectly set up for our arrival. We were only able to stay 2 nights this trip but would have enjoyed more time at the place.

Beautiful zen-themed private retreat in gorgeous NW Portland
Mary-Yoko and Terry are thoughtful hosts who've created a private oasis in Portland. There home is quiet and perfectly thought out, all you need to relax and enjoy. It sits above a green belt so though it was in the 90's we stayed comfortable and cool. Their neighborhood boasts fantastic shops and restaurants. We walked down the hill and enjoyed the best meal: Alouette, a quaint, new French small-plates restaurant. We loved every bite. So much to enjoy and explore here. Super friendly neighborhood. We hope to be back soon! Thank YOU Mary-Yoko and Terry.

Lovely next to the forest
This is a very nicely decorated, comfortable 1-BR apartment in a stunningly beautiful neighborhood. Outside balcony. We were very happy in the apartment and would be glad to stay again. Many thanks to our kind host

Very thoughtfully appointed space with everything we needed. This was the most comfortable bed of our trip to the Northwest. There are fairly steep steps down from parking level to the apartment entrance. They did not poise any problem for us, but worth noting. The neighborhood is lovely and offers some great views. We appreciated being a little off the main roads with a nice sense of nature.

A Relaxing Stay in Portland
This was a fantastic place to stay in Portland. The place was stocked well and very private. The view of the trees out the window was peaceful and beautiful. It is a little further away so you will need to walk a bit if you don't Uber or Lyft to get to shops and food. The bed was cozy and the couch was also very comfortable. The place was very clean and the television had cable tv. Small things like the umbrellas were handy with the changing weather. I would highly recommend this place when visiting Portland.

This is a beautiful, peaceful property that feels like it is nestled in nature, but at the same time was only minutes (by car) from the heart of downtown Portland. The living and sleeping areas were very spacious and comfortable, and everything was immaculate. Our only regret was that we only stayed for two days.

I had a lovely, albeit short, stay at this very Zen retreat. It was exactly what I needed after a few busy days, easy to unwind, close to town and restaurants. Delightful. I will definitely return!

Perfect Hideaway
We really enjoyed this getaway. The property was tucked away from the downtown area yet still very close to the trail system and the places we wanted to go. The accommodations were better than we had expected and could have totally prepared meals there. Either way it was very quiet and comfortable. Definitely would recommend to someone else in the future.

This is the perfect place to stay in Kings Heights. The apartment was spotlessly clean, beautiful, light, and cheerful. The bed might be the most comfortable one I've ever slept on. There are many extra nice touches like a towel warmer, lots of plugs for accessories and charging, and interesting movies, books and games. Mary-Yoko could not have been kinder or more charming and she bent over backwards to help us get where we needed to go. We are hoping to visit again someday!

Greatly enjoyed staying here! The decor and window views were beautiful. We were able to walk to the Audubon society. Also close drive to shops and restaurants. We did not need the air conditioning, but appreciate that it was available.
All of our questions were answered promptly.
Interesting reading material, including the children’s Zen books!
