My main issue was that the images of the hotel online felt misleading and therefore the rooms were disappointing. Neither my room or the rooms booked by my family members looked like the advertised images.
Rooms were very small with little space for baggage. All rooms had dark/black carpets, and no wood floors as in the images. My family members paid for a traditional Japanese style room but their room did not differ from my standard room at all.
This said, they werent bad rooms and wouldn't have been a problem with them if the online images had been more reflective of what the rooms looked like in person.
The only other issue was that there were no reception staff at night.
Otherwise the hotel staff were great, the breakfast was good and bathroom area of the hotel room was nice.

everything was very clean and tidy. lovely hotel

Our stay was overall great; the room was slightly bigger than expected, especially the toilette.
We loved the bed and the room set up!
Just a bit disappointed about the western breakfast but definitely a place we would go back

this is the third time I stayed at Rakuro, the location is just perfect, abit away from the busy, but very easy accessible ( just 2 station to Shijo) and 20 mins taxi take off from Kyoto station to the hotel. The environment, taste and style is modern and clean. the concept about plants echoes with the room as well. also hv self laundry service.

Generally a pleasent stay at Rakuro. Service staff was very helpful in helping to call clinics, hospitals and even drug stores when my son was feeling unwell. Thumbs up for that.
Location was fantastic too. Buses that goes to the tourist attractions, train station was just 2mins walk away and walking distance to a local supermarket, combinis and eateries.

RAKURO offers a unique reformed traditional Japanese tatami-style rooms by raising the sleeping area higher. The room is spacious and impeccable. Separating the bathroom from the bedroom is also rarely seen. The hotel’s lounge is its highlight that offers herbal tea, sofas and a round-shaped window to see the outside alley. RAKURO’s architectural style embodies the vibes of Kyoto - a perfect blending of the modern minimalism and the traditional Japanese. It’s also conveniently located with the imperial garden across the street and a subway station just by the corner.

The facilities and staff at the hotel were great. However, the in room WiFi signal was weak during our stay and there were sticky brown stains all over the carpet in our room. The property and room were also very hot and stuffy and we could not adjust the thermostat. Had to keep the windows open.

We enjoyed our stay at Rakuro Kyoto. It was quiet and peaceful and had a very nice vibe. The rooms were on the smaller side, but had great amenities. The bathroom was clean and modern, but we hadn’t realised that we had booked a room with a private bathroom external to the room itself - that took a bit of getting used to, but was really fine. The hotel has a very beautiful guest lounge and botanical lab which was the highlight of our stay.

The staff were amazing and the rooms were bigger in Japanese standards. It's conveniently located near train and bus stop. It is 3 min walk to the nearest train station and within walking distance to Imperial palace garden and Nijo Castle.

An incredible design with an unbeatable location

The lobby, cafe, and guest lounge are all very aesthetically pleasing. However, the rooms are definitely more function over form. Beware of the rooms and the sizing to make sure you know what you are in for - the standard rooms are incredibly tiny and you can’t reasonably access your check-in sized suitcase without causing a trip hazard. Though the train station is conveniently steps away, there’s not much within walking distance that is on a typical top rated list or popular with tourists. The biggest turn offs were the cleanliness and comfort. Expect very firm beds, low quality beaded pillows, and stain riddled carpeting and upholstery.

The "Botanical Lab" guest lounge was a beautiful, comfortable, and peaceful place to hang out with a book, laptop, or drink from the onsite fawn. cafe.

Such an amazing service from the staff. The place is beautiful and stylish, I enjoyed the environmental friendly options and their thoughtfulness! I forgot something at hotel after checking out and asked them if they could ship it to my hotel in Tokyo. They kindly helped me and I was able to get the item in one day!! Such amazing service , again!

Hotel in great location. Hotel a little dingy.. like the rugs need to be deep cleaned as they are quite stained and walls washed… bathroom great. Make sure you get one in your room.. they have private bathroom for you but you must leave your room with your key to use it. Friendly staff. Skip the breakfast and head to School bus bakery and cafe down the street.

We stayed in the Japanese superior room, with adjoining private bathroom. Good room size. And a nice bathroom and lovely, large shower. A quiet hotel.
You could choose between Western or Japanese breakfast. It got a bit boring with the same breakfast each day in the end (we stayed for 4 nights).
It was nearby the subway so that was nice. For extra amenities we had to take what we wanted from the 1st floor - an environmental plus.

Small cozy Well designed hotel near metro with polite staff. Great coffee.

Nice stay at Rakuro Kyoto. The hotel has a nice design. But the location isn’t as close to the most exciting sights in the city. Luckily subway and bus stops are within walking distance. Breakfast was good but they only have the same 2 options and we stayed for 4 days so had to repeat quite a bit. Coffee surprisingly not included and they can’t charge to the room so you have to pay immediately every time. Wifi goes from OK to average. Staff was nice and willing to help.

Small room but more than enough for a couple of nights. The coffee in the cafe (ground floor (fawn)) tastes wonderful. Bus and subway station is close by.

The lounge and cafe on the ground floor are impeccably designed. So cool and still comfy

A beautifully designed hotel - the attention to detail in the interiors is lovely and the nightwear they provide great - I wish we could have bought some to take home! The room we had was very spacious and had a comfortable seating area which was appreciated after long days out. The coffee and breakfast were delicious though perhaps a little more variety would have been nice. The Japanese breakfast was stand out.

Reception helped me a lot to organize my stay- I really appreciate it. I accidently booked a wrong date and panicked, she was an angel . I can’t remember her name, but she worked during the day on Wed(19th July). If someone sees this please send her my sincere appreciation

This is not a hotel, better call it hostel, all by your own and need to check out by 10am

Immaculate! This property was pristine and fashionably furnished. The downstairs cafe (good lattes) and guest lounge were welcome spaces to sit outside of the room. The staff were professional, friendly, helpful and courteous. The laundry facilities were useful. This hotel was better than our expectations. The room could have been improved by having better wardrobe space and extra hooks. A wonderful experience and I highly recommend this hotel.

Beautiful hotel with friendly staff, nice rooms (we had the japanese style rooms) and very close to central bus/subway lines.
Family mart and ramen shops on the same block. Vending machines and coin laundry is available at the hotel.

This hotel is conveniently located near train station and bus stops. Easy access to tourist attractions. Many convenience stores around the area. The hotel is very comfortable and the staffs are super friendly. I wish though that the hotel would provide coffee, not just tea. Overall, we are super happy with the hotel.

Great, centrally located property next to the emperors palace in Kyoto. Decent dining options. Hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The modern Japanese room was comfortable and clean.

The room are a little small for american standards and are very sober. Otherwise, it was clean and comfortable. Personnel was nice and spoke a décent english. Is at a walking distance from the Nijo castle. It is also juste beside the metro station that goes directly to the Kyoto train station and is very practical for exploring.

Amazing staff and hotel. 10/10 Stars. Just amazing.

It appears to be common practice in Japan to charge hourly for late checkout. I was disappointed that after a 4-night stay, they couldn’t/ wouldn’t allow me an extra 2 hours. My room was spacious but there were a few stains on the carpet. Unusual layout with the separate bathroom that cannot be locked except from the inside, so I didn’t leave any valuables in the bathroom.
Lastly, expect to pay for some things w/ cash and others with a card. I couldn’t charge breakfast or coffee to my room.

Great location and cozy room. Our bathroom was separate from our room, but nice size with a nice shower.

Absolutely wonderful hotel. The bath in the room was exceptional. We also loved the shared space.

What a lovely little hotel. Our family of 4 from Australia loved everything about this place. Great location, really nice groovy vibe, super clean & very comfortable.

Spacious, you can find the enough space for large suitcases even if you stay at simple twin room, which is sometimes hard to find in Japanese hotels.
