The Santa Croce neighbourhood provides a rare glimpse of “old” Florence with lively markets and tiny leather and artisan workshops, including the flea market (Mercato delle Pulci) at Piazza dei Ciompi. The Mercato St. Ambrogio, the city’s second main food market after the Mercato San Lorenzo, is within close walking distance too. Furthermore, the area is just a stone’s throw from some of the city’s main cultural attractions such as the Bargello Palace, which houses one of Italy’s most important museums, the Casa Buonarroti, (the former home of Michelangelo), Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Vecchio, and Ponte Vecchio, as well as the magnificent Santa Croce church and museum. You will also enjoy the largest selection of boutique shops, bars, and traditional restaurants and pizzerias within the city. Three of the finest and most expensive restaurants, Cibreo, Pinchiorri, and Alle Murate are located nearby. There is also a good choice of mid-priced dining options. By night, Santa Croce becomes one of the liveliest parts of town and with its pedestrian streets and illuminated buildings it transforms into the perfect venue for an after-dinner glass of wine or evening stroll. For those choosing an apartment in this area Santa Croce offers several food stores, supermarkets, laundromats, and gift shops as well as being adequately served by the local public transportation service. What a location- usually I stay in downtown Florence but this time decided to be across the River- for wonderful water views/Ponte Vecchio etc. The terrace was gorgeous and we didn't miss one sunset from there. Some reviews said it was noisy- not really. And you are just below Piazza Michelango- a wonderful early morning "hike" before the crowds hit. All amenities we could want were there- a little bit of a hike to grocery, but well worth the views, the breeze, all of it!

Good Place to Stay
Good Place to Stay
The apartment was perfect for our family trip. The place is spacious and has everything you need for your stay. The view from the terrace is beautiful! The bus stop is a few steps from the front door. Easy to move around the city. The place for the most part was clean. The bedrooms were clean, and the beds and pillows were comfortable. The bathrooms were clean, with good water pressure but not enough adult towels for 6 adults. The kitchen has the essentials to cook a meal. Unfortunately, the coffeemaker and teapot were disgusting. We cleaned them but wasn't something nice to encounter. Our only issue with this place is that there are several bars around it and you will hear the music at night until 2 am. The apartment is on a very busy and noisy street.
