Wonderful Place To Stay, Amsterdam
About this bed and breakfast
Wonderful place to stay on the ground floor half of a double house. Direct next to Sarphatipark. The place is very complete, with a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with tub / shower. Piano, TV and WIFI all available. Breakfast is NOT available from us. Public transport: Near crossing of Tram 4 and tram 3. Tram 4 runs between Amsterdam Centraal Station and Amsterdam RAI Station, both of them have a direct connection to AMS Schiphol Airport. Tram 3 connects to Amsterdam Amstel Station and runs along many mayor sites, such as Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum, Royal Concert hall and near Anne Frank's museum. The inner city is at 500 meters distance, yet this place is very cozy and quiet. Bedrooms are rented out jointly not seperately.

Sven was very helpful in giving instructions on how to find the place. Beds were very comfortable and a few details like a bottle of water, coffee and snacks made our arrival very welcoming !

Wonderful small suite. Close to the hosts but quite private. It’s small, but very well laid out and has everything you will need. But the best thing is the location— steps from Saphati Park and several tram lines, convenient everything.

We stayed in de pijp at Claire’s home for one week. It was perfect. Plenty of space, tools for cooking, blankets to stay warm, it was an all around excellent experience. And the location is perfect. 4 min walk to local tram, 10 minutes to the metro.
4.0
In general, the place was a good one to stay in. The location is fantastic - easy walks to restaurants, the tram, the park, grocery store and more. Getting into the city centre from the location was easy.
Communication with the hosts was easy - Sven met us in the flat and walked us through it and they checked in the next day to make sure we had what we needed. You do hear them chatting and walking above your head, though, which was awkward.
The flat itself, as others have said, is musty and dated. The floor had patches that looked like they'd gone through repair without matching the existing floor, the walls need a coat of paint, there was a section of wall missing around the radiator in the smaller bedroom. The window in the main bedroom had a crack in it.
There's not really a good place for luggage if you're not staying long enough to justify unpacking - especially if you're traveling with larger bags. I was able to keep mine squeezed in between the wall and the bed, but my friend had to keep hers in the living room as there was nowhere for it in the second room.
Bathroom is a good size with lots of storage. Water pressure is great. Nothing but towels is provided, so make sure to bring your own.
Kitchen seemed to be functional, though we didn't use anything other than the microwave, dishwasher and tea kettle. The listing advertised a washer/dryer, but we looked throughout and didn't find either.

There was good and not so good with this booking.
The Pros- the owners were very gracious and let us store our luggage there early even though the apartment wasn’t ready until 3 p. We really appreciated that!
The bed was very comfortable. The apartment was quite roomy. The surrounding area was great- we were near the Albert Culyp market and many wonderful restaurants. Several tram stops are quite nearby. The owners were very responsive when we had issues with the TV then even stopped in to make sure everything was ok.
The downsides- the apartment was terribly musty. It hits you as you walk in. My husband got quite congested with resp issues throughout our stay and I think it was related to that mustiness.
The apartment is very drab and needs updating. It is dark with no color. Rather depressing but “functional”. There was only one pan to use for eggs and it was oversized. They could use some variety in pans and utensils. There were older, used dishcloths/sponges for the kitchen sink which was sort of disgusting. Even though only used once, those should be replaced with each rental. Finally, there was no soap for the shower. There was only the handwash from the sink. I kept forgetting to buy some when we were out but that is a basic you expect to be included in the rental.

I booked this VRBO property for a vacation in Amsterdam. It was an ok place to stay; great location. However, there were a couple of issues that we encountered during our stay.
No Fire Alarm:
Upon arrival, we were shocked to find that there was no fire alarm in the unit, despite it being clearly listed as an amenity. This is not only a blatant violation of safety standards but is also illegal in Amsterdam. The lack of a basic safety feature left us feeling uneasy. This was brought up to them and was resolved the next day. However, since it is a safety concern, I do feel it is important to mention it here.
Messy Visit:
The owner informed us that they needed to replace the washing machine during our stay and requested access to the unit. Given the circumstances, we gladly granted permission. To our dismay, we returned to find the place in a worse state than when we left. Used coffee mugs were left unwashed, and the toilet was unflushed—a clear sign of disrespect and unprofessionalism.
Unsafe Actions:
To add insult to injury, during that same visit, the owner irresponsibly opened what can only be described as a rear window that functions as a door leading to the backyard. This not only allowed insects to invade our living space but also posed a serious security risk. Anyone could have entered the unit without our knowledge. Safety and security should be top priorities for any rental property, and this VRBO failed on both counts.

We enjoyed our four day stay in this 1st floor apartment. The location was convenient to trams, museums, and local restaurants. It was a great home base to pretend to be a local for a few days.
A few comments for those considering this flat:
- primary bedroom has a king size bed. I was pleasantly surprised!
- secondary bedroom has two twins. Perfect for our teen
- there will be noise from neighbors and the street
- the coffee array offered in the flat was delicious!
- the house includes lots of odds and ends in cupboards and drawers from prior occupants, so Americans may not have to by their own ketchup
- very close to pastry shops, cafes, groceries, the park, and trams

This is a great place to stay. Warm and charming host who helped us with getting around Amsterdam. It is located across from a park and very close to several restaurants. I would highly recommend this location when staying in Amsterdam

The host was very nice and made the check in simple and easy
I would stay again

We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this apartment, it was perfect for our family of 4. The neighborhood and park were fantastic to explore with several nearby metro/tram stations. The hosts were excellent as well! Wish we could have stayed for a whole month.

Just returned from 4 days in Amsterdam and absolutely loved the flat. This is a great place for a family of 4. The location is central but in a quiet neighborhood. We were easily able to walk into the main city center, visiting museums, restaurants, etc.
Claire was great to work with and was always available for questions. We would certainly rent again!

Great property in excellent location by vibrant Sarphatipark. It's remarkably quiet and good for sleeping. Ground floor is a plus, no narrow stairs to navigate. Easy access to trams and metro and abundant food/drink/restaurants nearby. Owner was always nearby, I think we saw her every day. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I absolutely loved this Vrbo apartment. It was very comfortable and well appointed. Including a washer and dryer! Everything we could have wanted was there.
The bedrooms look out onto a garden and the singing of birds were a wonderful way to wake up.
The location was perfect, across the street from a lovely park. We were surrounded by incredibly good and innovative restaurants.
Sven and Claire were perfect hosts.
It was a wonderful stay in an amazing city. We hope to return soon.

Perfect location. Close to tram to and from Central Station. Roomy enough for 4 couples. Our hosts were accommodating. It was very cold so we needed to turn up the heat a few times. Beds were comfortable.

We chose Claire and Sven’s property because we wanted to experience what it would be like to be an Amsterdam resident and the property is perfect for anyone who wants that experience. It is on a quiet residential street but is close to a number of supermarkets (Aldi, Lidl, Dirk van den Broek), restaurants (Zaza’s and De Ysbreeker are amazing) and the metro which we used for day trips to The Hague, Leiden, Delft and Zaanse Schans). The apartment is also a short walk (15 - 20 mins) to the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gough museum and, if that is too far, there are a number of trams right around the corner. The apartment has a very good oven and hob, washer dryer, and dishwasher). We love to cook using local ingredients and had no problem cooking a number of meals in the well kitted out kitchen. Having Sven and Claire above you is also a real plus. The instructions for accessing the apartment were very clear. This house is not the Ritz but rather a well loved home which made us feel like real Amsterdamer. We would definitely come back. Jimmy and Eilis

We stayed for 6 nights with our two children (ages 14 and 9). The apartment was small but perfectly sized for us and very comfy. The location was great. We went out quite a few times in the local area but also found it easy to walk into central Amsterdam (about 30-35 minutes walk) so didn’t use public transport much. My boys enjoyed playing in the park most mornings. We also made quite a bit of use of the piano!

De Pijjp is great neighborhood and hosts were excellent! Felt like we were locals!

This property is a little small for 4 adults. Would be good for a couple and kids. The bedroom with 2 twins was very cold. The heat never came on in there. Very deep tub. Hard to get in and out of for older people. Also very squeaky floors. Hard to get up in the night and be quiet. Seems like the space is a bit of a work in progress

This was a comfortable place to land for four adults after a day of sightseeing in Amsterdam. The neighborhood is friendly, with convenient cafe's and shopping, and the tram stop is nearby. The museums in museumplein are a comfortable walking distance. Bring slippers, the floors are cold!

Excellent location; perfect size for the 3 of us. Great communication with hosts. We very much enjoyed our stay here!

The rental is well appointed. There are some personal touches that distinguish it from the more "corporate" rentals on the market. The neighborhood is well off the beaten path of most tourists, which is also a plus in a city plagued by day cruisers.
We love Amsterdam and have placed it as a must stop when in Europe. We would return to this STVR on future visits.
The owners are most accommodating.

Really nice flat with friendly hosts. Right next to a nice park which was great in the day time, although there was some noise at night. Good area and only 50m from the tram stop. Great to have a piano in the flat, it felt like being at home! Thanks to Sven for quickly sorting out our requests.

Has all the basics, however the small bedroom with 2 twin beds really is as small has it appears on pics. Would not recommend it for adults or if you have lots of luggage. The couch and chairs are not comfortable to lounge in, but we didn’t go all the way to Amsterdam to sit in a flat. There is a grocery store within walking distance, you can cook and do laundry. Most of the stuff we went to see was a good walking distance away but we like to walk. We’re Americans so everything was a little overwhelming at first and I’m amazed we found the place from the airport. We took a train and tram, it’s a bit confusing but luckily almost everyone we asked for help spoke English. Amsterdam was a beautiful city and once you get settled and look at a map (or a app if you have wifi) it’s basically a half moon circle with canals.

We enjoyed our stay at this home within walking distance to restaurants, cafes, grocery stores. Close public transportation to all tourist attractions. We would definitely stay here again.

Pros- LOVED the location! There are so many great ethnic restaurants & the Albert Cuyp market is around the corner. No need to cook, but the kitchen was fully stocked (even a juicer). It was nice to stay in a quiet residential part of town with easy tram access (10min to the city).
The owner was very responsive.
Having 2 extra beds for my teen boys was nice.
King mattress is comfortable
If you want a rental with minimal steps, this is one of the few -no entry stairs to climb, but there is one step for the 2nd bedroom.
Cons- Needs a refresh/updating. Pillows were all flat in the sitting area & furniture wasn't comfortable there. Need more lighting. Dryer only got my clothes hot but not dry. But for the price, can't beat this rental.

Great location
Host was great. Especially with our late midnight arrival. Nothing fancy, simple, perfect for our small group. Make sure you have Everything for hygiene. Some places supply these. This place dose not. Great location with lots of cafes. And park we played table tennis.

Location location- stay # 2
Second stay at this location - June 7 to 13, 2022 with 3 adults - much tighter than our first stay with two adults for 9 days, but again we made it work. The challenge is luggage placement and we had 2 small suitcases and a carry on bag for the 3rd adult. No real place to set up, but we were creative. The entry was much easier with the door lock and the kitchen looked cleaner.
Things to know: you can hear people walking above, we had ear plugs, in early morning and evening, but was not a problem. The kitchen chairs need to be fixed, one leg broke and we had a fall. Same comments as before, the apartment needs some updating. It would help to have some smaller furniture. This would make it easier to move around and deal with luggage. Again great location, walkable or metro to anything. And most important fantastic host who are more than will to make your stay great!!! Remember, It is not the Ritz, but you are not paying for that either.

We stayed twice. This stay it was just two of us for 9 days. Walkable to restaurants, museums, tram and metro, but away from the Dam Square. Traveled within Amsterdam and outside (Delft, Hague, Alkmaar…) not issues. Not a lot of room for luggage, but with two people it worked. The apartment could use some fixing up and up dating. No working light in the laundry, no plug in the bathroom (used extension cord provided on request). With that, you could not ask for better host, Clair and Sven were a delight and so very helpful with all our request.

My friend and I stayed 6 days. The place was perfect. We loved the location, quiet, yet close to everything. The water pressure in the shower was great. Loved having a washer and dryer since we had been traveling already. Communication with owners was great. Claire texted me a couple of days before our arrival and gave me directions on how to get there. She allowed us to store our things before check in and helped us with Covid testing, taxi, and other questions we had. I definitely recommend the place and would love to stay there again. Ulli
