Just wanted to spend a night in Wellsboro PA, & choose the HistoricHotel for our evening. A very nice stay, convenient to downtown and everything. Will most likely return.

I liked all aspects of this property !

When I booked this I thought it was one Hotel, not separate, so the amenities were different between the over 100 year old hotel and the lodge. The hotel was very outdated, old and was very dissappointed the first night because the advertisements don't show it's 2 separate places, nor does it give you a choice to choose!

A hotel with charm from long ago. The lounge, bar and dining was great! Our dinner was very good! Service was awesome and the front desk gentleman was great! Our room was ok. Being a business owner of a cleaning company I could tell that our room could use a good detailed cleaning.

People were great and the rooms and halls need some tweakimg , Definitely historic. Outstanding pics and paintings. Food Outstanding but the morning breakfast could use some variety from day to day and some pastries and mixed fruits or something.

This was an adorable town. It literally is a snapshot in time. This is the same for the hotel. It needs to be updated. The service was amazing though. All of the staff we worked with were so nice and helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay nice.

Such a magnificent place frozen in time, yet updated with all necessary modern conveniences. A real treasure.

Nice old hotel and bar lounge. Excellent food and drinks. The room was a great disappointment. The room was cramped and furnished "late-century thrift store." It was clean and functional. The bathroom fixtures were very tired and worn. We love old hotels but this room was depressing. The room had an unexpected small fridge but sitting on a wobbly luggage stand, wierd.

Lovely hotel. Perfect location. I definitely recommend.

This is a historic hotel so is dated. The lobby and bar is nice. Food is ok. Service is good. Rooms are dated but clean. Our issue was the noise. We were given a room on the street side. Outside noise all night cars trucks, people at 130 am. At 4am trash trucks and street cleaners. When traveling all day and the next you want a good niggts sleep. We left with little to none. Ask for a room away from main street if you want rest.

Right in the middle of town.
Walking distance to everything. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Theatre next door was a flash back to years ago. We loved it. Concierge very friendly as were all the rest of the staff. Homey atmosphere. Only downside was breakfast. Same thing every day.

We liked all the historical artifacts and beautiful window boxes. Also, we enjoyed the photo galleries and proximity to the parks. The lobby was beautiful & the music played was on point.

Penn Wells is a neat old historic hotel in downtown Wellsboro. My boyfriend and I visited for a weekend in late August and wanted to stay somewhere convenient and walkable to Wellsboro’s attractions. We considered this property and an available B and B. Ultimately this hotel won out because I had seen it passing by months before and was curious as to the interiors.
The front desk staff here in particular is incredibly friendly and helpful. Don’t miss the interesting display case of local historical items behind the check in desk also. I have collected Shiny Brights for many years and never knew of their connection here before this visit.
Public spaces are comfortable and easily accessible. The room itself was more than adequate and I loved the original bathroom, which was in great shape given the age of the hotel. Like most older properties, there are areas that could benefit from some upgrades, but I also own a 100 year old home and know how old places are a never ending project, but more importantly a labor of love, which is why we choose to live in/support them.
I would like to give a shout out to the Mary Wells dining room chef. We had an incredible meal and I recommend eating dinner here. Advise a reservation per the hotel staff. Don’t miss the old black and white photo gallery! There was also a cute pub like dining area that we did not visit, but looked very charming and I would consider for a future visit.

It is a cute hotel. It was fun to step back in time and enjoy the historic elements of the hotel. The beds were very comfortable and the hotel lobby was charming. Now the breakfast could use so
E fresh fruit options and some pastries.

The man who was on the desk in the evenings (Dave) was fantastic. He was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the town. The hotel is very charming and we really enjoyed our stay. Of course with hotels built in 1869, it doesn't have the amenities some travelers are used to. The bathroom was a little challenging.

A really beautiful historic hotel. We’ve been to a few historic/old hotels and sometimes they are old and tired. The Penn Wells Hotel is not one of them. It’s very nice inside and out. The lobby is gorgeous. The room was a nice size with a comfortable bed and period historic bathroom. We’ll definitely stay here next time we go to Wellsboro. Also, the hotel is conveniently located within downtown, walking distance to shops, movie theater and wonderful restaurants.

Like taking a step back through time. A very well cared for hotel, super friendly staff, very easy access to the surrounding area, numerous places to eat and shop within a 2 minute walk!

Penn wells was an interesting stay. The decor in the lobby was antique and pretty. The front desk staff was friendly and even let us check in two hours early.
Our room was at the end of a pretty scary hallway, felt like something out of the shining. The floors felt warped as we walked. The room had a view of the parking lot, which was disappointing. The bathroom floors were dirty and had hair on them, the shower tiles were cracked and covered in putty. The floor of the shower was chipping, and the water pressure was lack luster. The bed was comfortable enough, but the room felt very bland, no artwork at all—the walls were bare.
The free breakfast was okay, just scrambled eggs and off tasting sausage, cereal, some fruit, and bagels. It was a small spread.
For the price, it wasn’t too bad of a stay but I don’t think I’ll return. The lodge seems like the better option

Loved the history. Room was comfortable and clean. Had a slight tilt that was laughable. But can’t complain it’s an old building. DO NOT eat at the dinner, service and food are horrible. The lounge in Hotel are great, service the best, food was good.

We liked the charm and feel of the place. It was absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed it immensely. It felt like we were back in time, when things weren't so fast paced, which felt really good. The place was beautifully decorated for Christmas. It really set the mood as we were going to our grandsons Christmas at the High School. What a way to start off the holiday season. Really put you in the holiday spirit.

Dave at the front reception was exceptional! Your hotel is a time capsule that I remember from 35 years ago! It was great to come back to the area and re-capture memories from my youth. It is so nice to come to the familiar hotel I grew up with. I recommend that THIS is the only place you should stay if you are in the area. Hands down, this hotel has a great vibe!

I love the step back in history that starts from the moment you walk into the lobby.

It needs a little more renovating in the rooms, especially the bathroom. The shower didn't work well.
It was an interesting place. The lobby was very nice. The breakfast was good.

Mold in room caused allergy issues.
Beds were lumpy and no way to get comfortable.
Silverfish (bugs) in room crawling on our stuff.
"French Onion Soup" was served with NO cheese on top, NO croutons, just a bowl of onion water with a small slice of bread. Server said they stopped using cheese because it weas too hard.

The hotel was located close to several reataurants and bars. Good for shopping as well. The hotel restaurant and bar were closed the first two nights we were there though it was a short walk for other options.

We stayed at the original hotel, not the newer one down the street. The Penn Wells charm only goes so far. The room was tiny, with a sloping, creaky floor and a steam heating system that was uncontrollably hot, forcing us to use the loud AC. Room lighting was inadequate. Service was great, but the formerly excellent breakfast has been scaled back, and the lobby and bar fireplaces were not tended to. Perhaps staffing issues were at play. This place has lost some of its luster but hasn't gotten more comfortable, especially for the price.

Majestic old hotel. Enjoyed the elegance of a time gone by.
