Named after the swallows which visited in past times it is now a designated conservation area and consists of a small cluster of cottages, a church, a pub, a boarding school, a village hall and a Tithe Barn housing a museum of rural and agricultural life as well as a history of Swalcliffe. There are many walks leading from the village into beautiful countryside. The Local Area: Sweetheart Cottage is situated in a row of similar cottages in a quiet lane where flowers tumble over walls and birdsong abounds. It is a perfect location for walkers, cyclists and families to enjoy countryside pursuits or to simply sit and relax in ambient surroundings. Located on the edge of the Cotswolds, the cottage is an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful area. Footpaths lead from the village, passing through gently rolling hills and beautiful byways. Within easy reach are the market towns of Shipston-on-Stour, Chipping Norton and Banbury, all only 10 minutes drive away. ‘Shakespeare’s Stratford’, is just a 15 minute drive. It is possible to explore the northern Cotswolds, southern Warwickshire and Northamptonshire with ease. A little further afield but still within easy reach can be found the ‘dreaming spires’ of Oxford, racing at Silverstone, designer shopping at Bicester, a delightful small theatre at Chipping Norton, Blenheim Palace at Woodstock, and historic Warwick Castle. Swalcliffe village is in an ideal location for visiting many National Trust properties, such as Charlecote Park or Farnborough Hall. Nearby villages are brought to life with country pubs and restaurants. Other local points of interest include stone circles, civil war battle fields, potteries and breweries. The cottage is just a few metres from the local pub- The Stag’s Head, the church, and a magnificent tithe barn. North Oxfordshire: North Oxfordshire is a wonderful place to spend time out of doors. Gently rolling hills make pleasurable walking whatever the weather; the fields are always changing, from the sunny rays of oilseed rape in spring to the lavender blue swathes of borage in early summer to the golden sweep of broom-like barley with the approach of autumn. In winter bramblings can be seen, in summer yellow wagtails, and red kites soar overhead all year. Badger, deer and other wild creatures are easily spotted amongst the bluebells in woodland, by the bubbling brooks or with ears sticking out cheekily above the corn stalks. There are many small historic villages, pretty in warm, honey-hued stone, trailing wisteria and hosting cosy country pubs with pretty gardens and open doors. Flowers spill over garden walls and the clacking sound of horse hoofs is a natural part of everyday life. Market towns are home to privately owned restaurants and small shops selling local produce, hand-made gifts and interesting foods. Farm shops are scattered throughout the area and wholesome food is never far away. This small and often unacknowledged corner of the Cotswolds maintains a quiet country charm and is a wonderful location to kick back and relax or from which to explore the more frequently advertised attractions of Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwick, Woodstock and Oxford. We believe in fair pricing; we do not increase our prices for regional events, nor do we charge additional supplements for winter fuel. Prices displayed may vary owing to the website booking fees. We do give refunds.

As American visitors, we had long dreamed of seeing the English countryside and experience the historic beauty. This cottage checked the boxes on every level. It was modern where you want it to be (electric heating, new fridge and stovetop range, etc.) and historic where you want it to be (the architecture, hardware and small details, the exterior of the building). If you happen to be an American reading this, just know driving and parking in and around Swalcliffe and extending villages will push you out of your comfort zone. It is akin to driving through an alleyway, although nearby, wider highways are accessible if you are willing to take a less direct route to local attractions. Cell coverage specifically at the cottage did not work for us, but wifi was reliable and available. Of all the sights we saw, the actual cottage was our favorite, and lucky us we got to stay there for a week.

The property was exceptionally clean, stylish and well presented. The furnishings and facilities in keeping with the style of the cottage. Every need had been thought of by the proprietors with careful attention to detail. The property has a pretty garden with a stream at the bottom with a garden swing to relax in the autumn sunshine. We were offered a thoughtful welcome pack with quality provisions including freshly baked loaf. Would highly recommend this exceptionally comfortable cottage and hope to return again soon.

Cute house, a little bigger than expected. At night the parking lot by the barn is very dark though, flashlight from your phone is nice. No range of phone in house, fortunately wifi. Nice garden to sit in, neighbors also use the garden to walk to the back door. Nice shower and loving arrival package.

The cottage was lovingly prepared and decorated. Flowers everywhere in the rooms and nice details everywhere, tasteful decor, a beautiful garden und a very well equipped kitchen. As a wellcome gift, we got a basket with groceries. Thanks for it! We really appreciated our stay there and hope to get back sometimes! We absolutely recommend this cottage. Aside from that, the area, the Cotswold, is beautiful, too and absolutely worth a visit.

Had a great stay, can't say enough nice things about Valerie, her communication, and some nice welcome gifts she left for me and my family for our trip. Beware for guests with mobility challenges that both bedrooms involve navigating some steep and narrow stairs, and if you've got a car your navigation through tight spaces will be tested, but this is an amazingly comfortable place that I would recommend to anyone and would look forward to staying at again.
