This is a spacious modern two bedroom apartment which was delightful to call home for my wife, my friend and myself for 8days. The views over the harbour far below were stupendous. Sandy was the friendliest, most knowledgeable host imaginable. She informed us about activities both in and out of Funchal that we otherwise would not have known about. 5 stars go to the host and the accommodation!

Our host was the key to the success of our holiday in Madeira. She was knowledgeable and helpful. The condos location was excellent for all we wanted to do. The roosters awoke us every morning and the dogs said goodnight. We would come back in a heartbeat and would recommend it to others.

Sandy is a perfect host. Very friendly and helpful. Perfect communication. We chose the apartment because it is peacefully located and has great views. The location, a few km from Funchal center, presupposes the use of bus or car. The apartment is cozy and a little old. Especially the kitchen could need a little update, but of course only if you want to cook yourself. Overall, a really good experience.

Perfect Madeira Getaway
Sandy's lovely apartment is perfectly located to access everything Funchal has to offer, while being far enough away to enjoy the countryside. It is spacious, well appointed and fully equipped. And Sandy is a wonderful host offering advice and helpful hints. Taking us to the grocery store upon arrival was especially helpful. I would recommend this property to anyone.

Wonderful Madeira
This property was superb. It was old fashioned but we loved it as it had that holiday feel.
Sandy was an excellent host and provider of tips for buses and places to go. She also took us to the supermarket when we arrived and we were able to stock up on the basics especially 2 huge bottles of water. We can't thank her enough and would highly recommend this property and her.

What a fabulous gem of a place to stay
We had such a good time in Madeira and Sandy and the apartment played no small part in that. The apartment is so well situated and the view from the balcony is stunning. Sandy was so welcoming and helpful. She was always on hand to help with anything - from shopping on the first day, organising bus passes, booking tours and supplying a cork screw when needed!!!! Thank you for a fabulous 5 days - I can't wait to come back!

A lovely. private rental. overlooking Funchal and the Cruise Ship harbour, within easy public bus
We had been to Funchal twice, once on a Package holiday. then on a Amazonia cruise. We wanted a holiday that was different, and more satisfying. I had recently recovered from major operation and we both needed somewhere to recuperate. We went to HomeAway, and decided on Sandy Becker's mountainside apartment, because it appeared to tick all of our needs.
We soon paid the deposit and confirmed our booking. We confirmed travel by Jet2.
Sandy Becker was in email contact from the beginning. She rated our 5* grading from the onset, by nicely explaining on line, the apartment position, arranging a taxi to meet us at the airport, greeting us when we arrived, and then carefully showing us around the property and workings. Later, in her car, Sandy took us to get our GIRO town bus, discounted, tickets, and to a supermarket to buy the immediate things for our settling in.
Next day Sandy took us by town bus, us into Funchal to show us the essential landmarks such a bus stops to get to and fro the apartment. We also shopped at the best supermarket, with Sandy showing where familiar items were and at the same time, restaurants where best to dine well, at very sensible cost.
We later found this to be good advice, which not only saved us money, but also gave us some excellent meal out occasions. Sandy then walked us through to Old Funchal, sightseeing, towards the Cable Car and the Fort, after confirming we could find our way back to the apartment left us to explore.
Our holiday in Funchal was 34 nights. Sunday is a quiet day in the city! However every Sunday invited us to join her in her car to visit places well off the beaten track.
We went to the Sunday Market at a village on top of the mountain, visited a historic park, had a thrilling drive back!
On the following Sundays we went to two superb Golf Courses, spent a day in Blandys Garden Park, were lucky to actually walked under a rainbow, then found it became a double rainbow. managed to photograph the event!
The 29 bus from the stop near the apartment took up to the peaceful, forest Levada walks where we loved to walk most days, and we learned from Sandy other bus options to different Levadas.
I came home s much fitter, my wife completely content, after my survival from Boerhaave;s Syndrome Op at Easter.
It was all down to the finding this place where we relaxed, ate, walked miles, slept long and lived well.
A good choice in finding Sandy Becker's apartment, and meeting Sandy. Thank you!

Freundlicher Gastgeber, zentrale Lage, ruhig

Property was as shown in the photos.
Sandy was very helpful with suggestions for our stay. Always available for any questions we had. Hot water tank problem was resolved the same day even though it was a national holiday. Easy ten minute acces to Funchal by bus. The only suggestion I would make is that for transatlantic guests a few basic provisions could be available so that a main shopping could be done the next day.

Very nice apartment overlooking the harbor and city of Funchal. Great views from the balconies. The apartment comes with all you need. Sandy the owner is a wealth of information for traveling through Madeira and assisted with maps and timetables. We rented a car, but city and regional buses can get you almost everywhere. Driving on the narrow and steep streets can be high adventure, but the highways and secondary main roads are no problem. We used the city bus almost every day to the Funchal Old Town and shopping areas. Our one week stay flew by.

We are truly happy that we stayed at Sandy's place in Funchal. It is an independent apartment with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two balconies. It is close to the Botanic Gardens and 15 minutes bus ride from downtown. We wanted to be away from the late night noise of the downtown and we were able to enjoy the fabulous views of the harbour from a vantage point of our balconies.
We used a combination of city buses, taxis, minibus tours and hiking to cover lavadas, mountains and coastal towns. We went to Potrto Moniz and North West of Madeirato on a minibus tour recommended by Sandy and it turned out to be well organized and great value for money.
Sandy had arranged a taxi for our pick up from the airport. She was there to welcome us. She took us to the grocery store in her car which helped us to stock up for the two weeks we stayed in Funchal. Throughout our stay she was available to provide information and guidance.
My wife and myself found Pingo Doce, the local supermarket chain a good place to buy necessities and the farmers market on Fridays at the main market in Funchal a great for local fruits and vegetables.
I am a writer and I was able to work on Cultivating Happiness, my current book, during our stay there. We are happy to have discovered Madeira as well as Sandy's place. We will be back again.

A wonderful apartment and view
First I must say that the owner Sandy is without doubt the most helpful owner of an apartment that we have stayed in, and we have stayed in quite a few! She lives below the apartment and is always on hand but she is not intrusive. Her guidance was most helpful and a trip to the supermarket on arrival most welcome.
The apartment is lovely, with two excellent balconies that overlook Funchal including the harbour and being south facing receives sun all day, of which there was plenty despite it only being February. The kitchen is one of the most well equiped that we have had and is of full residential standard unlike many more basic ones. The buses from nearby provide an excellent service to get into the heart of Funchal which is a lovely capital with more of a feel of a large town than city and the whole area that we experienced was wonderfully clean. The fee was not loaded for school half term as many are and is superb value. Why has it taken me until retirement to find this wonderful island? Sandy's apartment is the perfect place to experience it from.

Perfect holiday for body, mind and soul
Palaamme takaisin.
Thank You, Sandy for the excellent holiday home! Thank you for the amazing view from the balcon over the Funchal up to the sea. Special thank you for helping us in so many ways and making our 4 weeks holiday perfect; thank you for your kindness. We´ll coming back one day! Kindest Regards from Finland, Vuokko & Co travellers

Spacious apartment overlooking Funchal.
We had a fantastic week in this spacious apartment in early February. Ideally situated looking over Funchal and the harbour but nicely away from the hubub! We were rather cold and would have appreciated another heater but otherwise would recommend staying here.
Sandy was fantastic, by giving us masses of useful information about the island and booking us a couple of mini-bus trips, (being picked up at the door), which were well worth the money as we saw so much. She also took us to a supermarket to stock up,when we arrived which we appreciated very much.
We used the very regular bus service to get in to Funchal ( 10 mins ) and up to a Levada walk, and also taxis a few times.
We love Madeira for it's mountains, greenery and flowers but also it's lovely people.
Thankyou Sandy, you made our holiday.

Excellent value
Although a little dated everything you need is here, with comfy beds. Bus or nearby cable car needed from apartment but regular services mean this is no problem. Hospitality of owner Sandy second to none and her knowledge most useful.

Well located and spacious apartment.
We booked the Jardim Botanica Apartment as we liked the idea of being located away from the centre of Funchal while still being able to access it easily when we wanted. We also wanted some space, having stayed previously in other countries in cramped accommodation - we are very pleased to say that we found both with this apartment. We hired a car and so could easily access the roads East and West on trips out and used the bus ( bus stop about 200 metres from apartment ) to go into Funchal. In terms of space, we enjoyed having the luxury of 2 bedrooms and bathrooms and even 2 balconies - the views from these were fantastic as described.
I must also mention the owner Sandy who went out of her way to explain places to visit which, despite our own research, we were not aware of and was available to help at all times as she lives below. We must especially thank her again for going out to buy some provisions for us on learning that our inward flight was delayed, preventing us from visiting the supermarket that evening. Not only that, but she would not accept payment ! We were very touched, a lovely, knowlegeable lady.
We enjoyed the stay so much that we are already discussing a return trip to Sandy's apartment !

Ideal Location
The apartment was as described & we enjoyed it's location out of the city with easy connection by bus. The view was lovely. Sandy was very helpful taking us for our first grocery shop, arranging taxis & mini bus tours & giving detailed information on buses & places to see.
It was a beautiful time of the year to visit the island for the first time, road verges full of agapanthus & hydrangeas & many lovely parks & gardens with a wide variety of flowers & trees. During our 2 weeks as well as getting around by public buses we went on 2 MJ mini bus tours, firstly West coast then North East tour(included the caves at Sao Vicente which were interesting as they were formed by lava flow) we had plenty of stops at various viewpoints & places of interest & were given enough time to enjoy them, the drivers imparted lots of interesting information. Another day we hired a private taxi, we were driven by Terry, a very considerate chaffeur who again had lots of local information & gave us plenty of time to enjoy our half day trip to Pico Areeiro, Ribero Frio & Camacha. All of the above were excellent & I would recommend them.
We enjoyed the mandolin orchestra, great to see so many young people involved.
Hope to visit the island again in the not too distant future.

Very good holiday
The apartment was in a very good location, away from the many hotel areas and beside the Botanic Gardens and local people. Bus 29 was helpful for getting up and down from the city centre and also up to the terminus for Levada walks. The L. walk to the east went past 2 tea houses. The 2nd one called Jasmine Tea House was recommended and was delightful. The L walk to the west and Monte is also good but a bit scary in places - a walking pole is helpful. We enjoyed the Botanic Gardens, Flower Festival, the Mandolin Concert ( E20 each ) and going up the cable car from the Botanics to Monte.
We went on a 'mini-tour' but was of mixed enjoyment so wouldn't recommend it - Porto Moniz was good but other parts were tedious for an active and outdoor person.
We enjoyed very much going to the east end of Madeira by bus 113 where there is a lovely, long costal walk ( but no toilets for this popular area ).
The other walk I thoroughly enjoyed was catching the 8:10, 56 bus to Poiso
( 1413m ), then walking up the minor road ( similar to Scottish Highlands ) to Pico do Areeiro ( 1818m ) and about another 15 mins. along the high but safe ridge to a viewing point. I walked outwards for about 2 hours from Poiso so that I could catch the returning 56 bus at Poiso at 13:30 - next one is 4 or 5 hours later.
Sandy was at all times helpful and very pleasant and in particular met and took us to the Aerobus and took us to the supermarket for groceries.

Lovely, comfortable and wonderful views
We spent 4 nights in this lovely apartment, spacious with balcony views. It is as described in the advert and just what we wanted. Madeira is a delightful Island and as we love walking, Sandy gave wonderful advice on different levada walks and places to visit. The location was good for the day trips we did and Sandy will tell you how to get about by bus as we had not hired a car. She knows the Island well! She is friendly and approachable and we will definitely be returning there!

Very, very nice indeed!
We generally always stay in a hotel when we visit Madeira, but this time we decided it would be more relaxed to have our own apartment. This turned out to be so convenient as we did not have to be committed to meal times and certainly did not have to dress up.
Our family enjoys walking and we found endless levadas (water canals) throughout the Island. We followed the paths and discovered the most magnificent scenery around every corner. It was also quite an experience to try out the local cafes/restaurants en route which serve traditional Madeiran food.
Although we rented a car for a week we did not need to keep it for our full stay. There is a bus stop outside the apartment and we used this transport which proved to be cheap and reliable.
Fortunately, Sandy took good care of us giving us maps
and explicit directions to many places which we would never have visited without her advice. For anybody who enjoys, scenery and nature we highly recommend the Island. The Apartment has an absolute spectacular view of the City and Harbour and it was lovely to view the cruise ships coming and going and, all we had to do, was sit on our balcony!

Truly amazing view and wonderful host
Our host Sandy went out of her way to make our stay in her lovely unit a truly pleasurable experience. From arranging our airport pickup, grocery shopping, and driving us to a beautiful scenic point her hospitality was most welcoming. Her help with bus timetables and arranging island tours was invaluable. My sister and myself would highly recommend this apartment to anyone planning a trip to the beautiful island of Madeira.

Very nice view from well situated apartment.
The apartment is located in the mountains of Funchal, near The Botanic Garden and the "lift" to Monte. The apartment has a beautiful view from its two balconies, overlooking Funchal, the harbour and the sea. In the evening/night you'll see the lights from the city and mountains. Very beautyful!
The apartment is nice with large kitchen, two bed-and bathrooms.
The owner, Sandy, is a very kind, serviceminded and helpful hostess, who knows the island in every detail and is generous to share her knowledge.
From the apartment it's very easy to reach the city-center with bus or taxi.

We enjoyed nearly a week at this apartment in May 2010 and were pleased to find everything as we had been led to believe. Realistically, this is an out-of-town location at about 1000 feet so somewhat cooler than the seafront town centre. The views are truly stunning! It is quiet but not very quiet because a bus route passes close to the front of the property. But it's very convenient for catching the bus down to the centre and back again. We generally walked down into town: about 20 minutes and very enjoyable. There were adequate facilities within close walking distance to purchase food and also some small restaurants/cafes/bars.
The apartment was furnished and equipped in accordance with the published details. What we read was what we got and it was perfect for our requirements.
The owner resides in the apartment directly beneath and was most helpful in attending to us, our questions and our requirements.
Following the February storm, we were not too sure how we would find the island. We found some evidence of storm damage in the countryside but very little in Funchal itself. Certainly what we did find in no way detracted from our having a very enjoyable time.
We would recommend this apartment for any, like us, who are looking for a quieter location and we hope that we might return in the future.

We stayed at the appartment for a week at easter. The appartment was well fitted out and we had all we needed. In my view the position is excellent. We could sit on the balcony in the sun looking out over the town of Funchal. The view is exactly as shown in the photograph. As you can see the appartment on the hill behind Funchal very close to the botanical gardens. Its only 5 mins to walk to the gardens and to the cable car which takes you up to Monte. There are 3 different buses which stop nearby. allowing you to get in to Funchal. They are cheap, regular and on time ! Sandy made us very welcome. She organised our pick up and return from the airport, took us to the shops, organised a day trip and gave us lots of info about where to go.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and are pleased recommend it.

We have always promised ourselves we would visit Madeira, this became a reality at beginning of March for 2 weeks. Unfortunately just a couple of weeks prior to our departure the Island and its people suffered a tremendous upheaval in the form of a huge storm. We were naturally concerned about every aspect of our visit, we need not have worried. The Madeirans have worked so,so hard to put things right and make the tourists' experience positive. Our visit was very enjoyable, the appartment was everything we could have wished for, excellent views, comfortable beds, amazing shower. Sandy has been extremely helpful right from the start of our planning, full of information and advice, very kindly taking us to the supermarket for our shopping as we chose not to.hire a car. Do use the excellent public bus service that runs throughout the Island ( there is a stop just outside the appt.) very economical and the drivers are so skilled manuvering their vehicles up and down very very steep but very scenic roads. There is plenty to do and see, visiting the many parks and gardens, walking along the lovely promande or just chilling out. All in all a very positive experience.

We had heard many good reports of holidaying in Madeira and chose to go in February, with friends, to have some sun and enjoy the walking on the levadas and the mountains. We were keen to meet Sandy even before we left England after the warm, friendly messages she sent to us. Her helpfulness and friendliness meant that we received a lovely welcome on arrival and she was always on hand for advice and information. When it rained, she offered us playing cards and DVD's. Our experience with the weather was unusual as the Island was suffering from excessive rain. This was disappointing but should not put others off. Madeira is beautiful with, even in Feb, wonderful flowers and trees. We were not able to go into the mountains but know, from other friends, that they are spectacular. The view over Funchal is spectacular and we loved watching the light at dawn. The old town and the area around the cathedral and gardens were good to wander round and we had some very good meals out. We were surprised to find that it wasn't overly expensive. Coffee is excellent! The flat was spacious and the beds very comfortable and warm! Thank you, Sandy

We had a wonderful time. Weather was the only damp thing about the holiday, and even that did not spoil one moment. The apartment was perfect (details on the web did not do it justice) The view was spectacular. The public transport the best I have experienced anywhere. We will be returning to take in the rest of the island. Finished the holiday with a glass of champagne with Sandy on new years eve, entertained by an amazing firework display. Sandy is a most caring and helpful host and a joy to meet. (should be Irish!!!).

We decided to visit Madeira because of the warm weather that the Island experiences. The apartment was exactly like the photos on the Home Away site with a spectacular view of the harbour and City. It was a lot larger than we expected and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The apartment faced South so we were all able to sun-bathe on the balconies from morning to the latter part of the afternoon. The evenings were very mild and we enjoyed the beautiful sun-sets. We did not have to rent a car and took Sandy's advice and used the local bus because the service was excellent and the busses were always on time. We love historical sites and enjoyed walking through the Old Town past the small church and on to the Fort. There are many restaurants in this area and we ate there regularly. Sandy is very knowledgeable about the Island and gave us lots of advice about trips, levada walks and gardens. We will definitely return to the Island because there was so much to see and do and we only had one week.

Excellent, spacious apartment above funchal, right next to the botanical gardens.
Sandy was always on hand with advice. She also took the trouble to drive us to a large supermarket on our first day to stock up on provisions. A very nice thought.
Even though the apartment is not in funchal centre, there are regular, and very punctual, buses to and from the centre.
A great apartment if you require space and freedom to do as you wish.

Our apartment was exactly as described, with incredible panoramic views of Funchal's city and harbour. At night the view is like Fairyland, with hundreds of lights twinkling from the properties dotted all over the spectacular hillsides to the north of the city.
Sandy the owner has lived in the apartment below for many years and was readily on hand to attend to our accommodation needs and queries. As a bonus to visitors, Sandy can act as a tour guide and has a vast knowledge of Madeira, its cuisine, key shopping and tourist hot spots, and value-for-money organised tours and dining out recommendations.
The bus stop just 2 mins away enabled us to travel for less than 1 euro both to the centre of Funchal and to the famous levada walks. The equally famous Botanical Gardens are a few minutes walking distance.
Particular attractions for us were the mountain scenery, the sea-front and harbour, the proliferate flowers everywhere, the 2 cable car rides, one of them 5 mins walk from the apartment, the quality of clothes particularly in children's stores, drinking tap water with no ill-effects, and the warm evenings.
The location of the apartment, with reliable public transport facilities so nearby, and Sandy 'on tap', made everything so convenient and easy for us.
We would thoroughly recommend a stay in Sandy's apartment on this beautiful island, known as the Garden of the Atlantic.
