The rooms were clean and the bed comfortable. The location is good for a stopover between Mikumi National park and Selous national park. Breakfast was okay.

Unfortunately our experience at the restaurant was terrible. We were the only guests at the restaurant and still waited 2.5 hours for our dinner. When it finally arrived the waiter forgot half of it and the food we got was by far the worst we had in Tanzania. When we told this to the manager the next morning he laughed and we didn’t get a real apology. English seemed to be a problem for everyone at the lodge except the manager. When we arrived we asked someone to help us with our luggage and no one understood us or helped. Since English is also not our first language we get it if someone doesn’t speak it perfectly but at Mapeni lodge, communication of any kind only seems to be possible in Swaheli. Due to our experience we wouldn’t stay there again.
