As much as I would like to give this hotel a great review, given how kind and solicitous the staff were, I cannot. The exterior of the hotel is lovely and classic art deco. The lobby, bar, restaurant, check-in area are all gorgeous and welcoming. The staff that we met were all friendly and ready to assist in any way. The issue was that once you got past the lobby and went up to your room, the charm and sense of glamor came to a full stop. Our room was on the second floor, with a neglected-looking apartment building direction across.. one could wave to and I’m sure have an unhindered conversation with the inhabitants across the bleak alleyway. Directly below us were rusty shipping containers, old rolled carpets, and other such dreariness. Not quite the “city view” as advertised. No sunlight, no views.
The room itself was fairly barren. Nothing on the walls except a single mirror. A paucity of furnishings that did not feel comfortable or welcoming. A vintage ceiling light, which perhaps with incandescent bulbs would have had a pleasant illumination, but with (assuming) LED the number of lights lit up the space like a hospital room. No dimmable or low-glare lights. The bed did have a couple of small attached light fixtures, but these were insufficient, as one was broken. The bathroom was nicely tiled and the bed was comfortable, so there’s that.
Overall, unfortunately, not a stay that was anywhere close to the $560+ nightly total we paid.

Hotel was clean. Art Deco decor was well done and food was good. People were nice enough. However, upon arrival we asked for change which no one had (what hotel does not have change?). Then there were no coffee machines in the rooms. And the bar didn’t have coffee in the morning until after 8 a.m! For a downtown hotel, this seems ridiculous.
To add to insult to injury, we made a reservation at the Georgian Room about which we were excited after reading about it. We waited 45 minutes after our appointed reservation time for what turned out to be a bar seat near the door and not a table. They could not move us to another spot so we left.

From the art deco style to the professional staff to the ocean views, the Georgian was a fabulous stay.

What an outstanding property! This hotel is beautiful and while it's newly renovated, it still has a classic feel to it that is endearing. The staff was excellent as well and all of the facilities were top notch. I will definitely stay here again when in LA

The lobby, dining areas, terrace and front of house staff were lovely. Behind this facade was a low budget renovation with a depressing paint job over the previous chips and flakes. Empty white walls with surface mounted sockets and trunking, very noisy aircon. Irresponsible amount of alcohol on display in the room. Small bathroom with broken showerhead. View of multi storey car park and back alley, despairing homeless people and smoking kitchen staff on breaks. Outdated and dismissive attitude to dietary requirements. Overpriced hotel on Santa Monica ocean front.

If you want to feel like you're staying in a fancy art deco house then stay here! It did not feel like a hotel at all. I loved everything about it, but mostly the bed. It was SO comfortable. I can't wait to stay again!

The service was great. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. The room was smaller than advertised on hotel.com, and was too small to accommodate two people. Tiffany the room manager was very understanding and was able to move us to a larger room which was very comfortable and greatly appreciated. From there the experience was excellent. (although a very minor item is the coffee machines never worked).

Renovations completed 6 months ago to Santa Monica’s oldest “high rise” hotel. They kept the old world feel to the hotel while providing top notch amenities. Great location overlooking Santa Monica beach and pier. Excellent food and bar in hotel with even more in walking distance. Ask management for an invitation tot he “speak easy”. Expensive but we loved it!

Great location, very friendly and welcoming staff. The structure is not adequate for the price (in particular very small bathroom)

We had a lovely stay at the Georgian Hotel, which is across the street from the beach with a beautiful view.

Billing was a nightmare. The price was $1300 for two nights. They add $250 a night as a hold for incidentals, so if you want to have a tiny can of pringles from your mini bar, no fret because you’ve already given them $500 for two nights to make sure you don’t skip out on your pringles. They charged me $1800 on my card then another 1300 once I checked out. So for a week after I left they had $3100 tied up of my money. It took a week to return the $1800. Their restaurant prices are absolutely insane. As a woman staying there by myself I felt very unsafe walking around at night given the homeless people screaming around the hotel. So I used Postmates for two tacos from a cheap place near by which cost $48 for one person. The point is, be prepared to absolutely bleed money. This hotel and this area destroyed my bank account and given the fact I never felt safe, had multiple homeless people scream in my face, smelling pee and poop around the hotel, I wish I never booked this trip. I’ll never return to this hotel. You’re paying their insane rent, and any other city in America this would be a $100/night hotel.

Despite a recent renovation, the room smelt musty and damp. Staff appear unhappy, are unfriendly, and simple requests seem a little too much for them. The hotel clearly needs to rethink it's training program or hire people better suited to hospitality. The hotel is unsuitable for families and geared towards the party scene. Instead of coffee and tea making facilities in the room, there was a tray of alcohol in its place. Despite our party containing 4 people, we were only provided with enough towels for 2 and needed to request additional towels on everyday of our 4 day stay. Our experience at breakfast was very disappointing with drinks not arriving, items of food were served cold and some were missing, and finally my son found a clove of garlic in his sweet pancake stack....mmmm...delicious. Overall, a very disappointing experience.

The architecture of the hotel is gorgeous. It felt like a Raymond Chandler novel. Overlooking the ocean and in a great walking area. It was wonderful, but could have been a bit cleaner in the bathroom and, for some reason, there was no hand soap provided.

The renovation of this property is outstanding! The attention to detail to recreate this beautiful building to it's former glory is impressive.
The spaces to relax, the terrace for breakfast, the bar for a drink and the library room allow you to unwind even when it's going 100 miles an hour outside.
The rooms are comfy and quiet and the location is second to none. If you stay any where else in Santa Monica your missing out.

Very pleasant hotel.

Staff was excellent. Atmosphere, location, and hospitality was very good. Way overpriced. We booked a room with a city view which was the side of the adjacent building-- meaning our view was concrete. For the price I would not pay to stay again.

Amazing service from everyone and such a great vibe.

The hotel decor was absolutely beautiful and the front staff was very professional and friendly.
For the cost however, the details could use some improvement - the bathroom light was flickering, the air vent in bathroom wasn’t working though could be because it’s such an old hotel. Additionally there was no turn down service as stated and getting breakfast was a bit funny as we had to walk outside to hostess and guests of the hotel didn’t seem to have priority seating. It was pretty empty when we ate so it wasn’t an issue, but more a pain waiting for hostess while she was taking phone reservations etc.

The room & the bathroom are really nice, clean, and authentic. It represents the sense of the 1900s with a little modernized taste. Very interesting decor. We really like it.
