This hotel needs a complete refresh. The lobby is the only thing that has been updated. My room was worn, in every way. The bed was not comfortable and the parking dark/dimly lit and forever away from the door. There are many other hotels to choose from that are updated and comfortable. Choose those.

The black out curtains in the room did not close. The restaurant ran out of hamburger meat. It was really noisy with the planes taking off and we were not aware of the main pool being closed due to construction. On the upside the staff was very nice and the food was tasty.

The hotel takes down its complimentary coffee service at 8 am! We couldn't believe it - the service is only 5 am to 8 am and then you have to pay for coffee. This left a bad impression for us after what appeared to be a nice stay.

Spacious room was a plus. Unexpected fees at check in were an issue. Advertised as pet friendly and wanted an excessive fee to have a pet stay that was non refundable. Parking fees to park on property even with a handicap placard. Pool area was under significant construction which basically made the pool unusable.

This was our first experience at an Ayres location. We want to use Ayres in the future, as cleanliness, room condition was top tier. I did run into an issue with a security guard. While enjoying the Jacuzzi with my wife, we met 2 other couples who were drinking beers. My wife and I are sober and we're enjoying sparking water and regular water. About 30 minutes into our time there, a security guard approached us and informed us there was no drinking in the Jacuzzi. I assumed he meant no alcohol, and since I wasn't consuming alcohol I continued to open my sparkling water. He said "no I am serious. No drinking in the jacuzzi." I presented the can, showing him that it was just sparkling water, and didn't contain even sugar, let alone alcohol. He told me that it wasn't allowed, and demanded my room number. I asked why he needed it, and he said I was because he needed to report me. I reluctantly have him my room number, and asked him if it was hotel policy to not have water as a beverage in the area either. He said it was, and he left the others who were consuming beer without any of the same threats. After our time in the jacuzzi I reported my experience to the front desk, and my claims were dismissed as being associated with the parties that were consuming alcohol. I am not sure what my recourse is, but it was not a welcoming experience, and while I am usually agreeable to service personnel as I am one myself, I was completely rubbed the wrong way.

Our family of three really enjoyed this European boutique style hotel. From the stylish lobby and beautiful interior court with an Italian fountain, to beautiful old fashion furniture and piano music in the spacious hallways, we all loved it.
We used the on site restaurant for breakfast as well and the pool.
We will come back!

This hotel used to not charge for parking, now they do. It is greedy of hotels to charge extra for parking.
Also, I was put in a wheelchair accessible room. It was awkward being in a wheelchair accessible room.

Wonderful hotel providing excellent service and delicious meals at their restaurant. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and we were very happy with our stay. The only thing that I was disappointed about was that they were working on repairs to the structures in the courtyard during the day and you could hear the noise from the drills and other equipment making it difficult to enjoy the garden and outside tables due to the noise. I wasn’t aware there would be construction before booking but the hotel workers were polite and we made the best of the situation. We still had a great stay and will definitely return.

The Ayers Hotel offers the predictable and consistent experience of a hotel stay we've all come to expect with nationwide chains. However, they also offer a unique charm, care and quality setting that is indicative of an independent, family run operation.
In the future, whenever staying in the Costa Mesa area, I'll be staying at Ayres.

We thought the Ayres was a terrific hotel! First time we'd stayed and the amenities were great, restaurant and bar were exceptional and friendliness of the staff was first rate! The location is pretty centrally located in OC and plenty of coffee shops and restaurants in close proximity. Really appreciated the courtesy and professionalism of the front desk staff, restaurant staff and concierge. All in all, a great, quiet and enjoyable stay!

The Ayres hotel was a nice, clean stay. The lobby looked nothing like the pictures shown on the website. Not as updated looking, but was clean and professional. The free shuttle from the airport to the hotel was a wonderful service, and the front desk was very friendly. Unfortunately, the restaurant and room service does not offer anything that is gluten free, so keep that in mind when booking.
My room was very clean and open. There was a wedding right outside my window one night, which made for a late night on my end. Being on a business trip and hoping to get an early nights sleep, I wish I had been notified of this beforehand. There were also issues with the hot water, which was frustrating when trying to get ready for the day.

My search is always filtered to select only hotels with free breakfast. I know that the breakfasts aren’t excellent food but it is convenient. Found out on day of checkin this hotel now has no free breakfast with any room. Wouldn’t have booked here. Too late to cancel. Hey to the hotel to find out they now charge for parking. In a location where parking fees really isn’t necessary. Just another junk fee. I realize that both of these issues are probably post Covid measures to make up for lost revenue, but the “surprise to me” changes have turned me off on this brand. This will be my last time.

It was a great hotel! I was pleasantly surprised. (Unfortunately, the rain kept me from fully enjoying some of the amenities, but I liked what I saw. I also had a great breakfast in their restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Great property with an incredible courtyard!
Close to freeways that will get you everywhere. Was worried about proximity to airport…Not bad.

The hotel is pretty and the outer courtyard is nice. Hard to relax out there while planes are flying overhead all day. Didn’t realize I was booking a hotel in the flight path.
Also don’t appreciate having to pay for parking! It’s not like you’re in a secure area

Ayers is always #1 for us. Clean. Great room services. Nice suites. We love it especially around the holidays. Gorgeous restaurant.

We were in OC for one night to attend a business dinner at the Ayres hotel. The dinner and our accommodations at the hotel were very good, room was very clean, great location close to John Wayne airport. The standout for us was the excellent service we received from the hotel's airport shuttle drivers, Chris and Luis. They went above and beyond to help us and accommodate our schedule. Chris even checked us in when the front desk was busy. Their friendly and prompt service made our quick trip so easy. They both have been with Ayres for several years and are happy with their jobs and obviously well trained in customer service, so Ayres gets high marks for being a good employer too.

We have stayed at this hotel several times because it is clean and quiet as well as convenient to family. This trip was equally comfortable.
My only major complaint was that I was shocked to be charged $24.50 to park at the hotel. This is a new policy and needless to say, I was none to happy.

The staff was very helpful and kind. The room I got was nothing like pictured on the website. The bed was hard and lumpy

Feather pillows…. I just hate them…. Also, most folks do not want to step 3 feet up into the tub to take a shower. Get with the times, better bedding and walk in showers.

Our stay was during a visit to our daughter. This hotel was run down and did not smell good. Our room was only semi clean. The floors were wee in poor condition and dirt stained. As soon as we made our online reservation, a message popped up that we would also be charged $24.00 for parking in their lot. This seemed ridiculous and deceiving because we were notified after confirming the Reservation. This hotel looks lovely in the photos but certainly not how we found it.

This hotel had a really cute courtyard and pool area. The room decor was a little dated, but very comfortable.

I typically stay at the Ayers Laguna Woods, but location was fully booked, so I opted for the Costa Mesa location. Price was average for the area. Differences between the two locations, Laguna Woods offers free happy hour drinks and snacks 5-6pm, includes and excellent breakfast, does not charge extra for parking, is near dozens of restaurants and the Irvine Spectrum shopping center. Costa Mesa offers none of the above and charges an extra $25/night to park in their own parking lot. Room was clean and staff was friendly. If you have flexibility in area, I would recommend the Laguna Woods location, it is a 15 minute drive south.

Upon starting the new year, they decided to start charging $26 per night to park in the parking lot. Been here so many times, but the addition of that will make us no longer stay here.

The staff was great. However, the noise of the aircraft was a bit annoying.

Did not realize it was right on the flight path and so close to airport. Room was nice but the plane noise was hard to take. They did do a promo for free parking so that was a great plus. Room lovely.

Never again, one of the worse hotels dirty old and roaches in the restroom.

The room itself was clean upon checking in, bed was comfortable. There was something about the water inside the room from the bathroom faucet and shower.
Brushing my teeth, the water had a very rusty taste, same with the shower when running the hot water, the steam you can smell the rusty smell.

It’s really nice and I love how you need a card to get inside. It just feels safe and quiet and so comfortable

Clean and quiet. Didn’t expect to pay for parking. I thought breakfast was included.

Quaint hotel that was very clean. Two pools/hot tubs and the cookies/muffins morning/evening was a plus!

Stay was awful. Heater didn’t work, bed was completely worn and sagged in the middle, room smelled like smoke and overall it was in dire need of ANY kind off updates. Would never stay again.

Wasn't welcoming at all, Wasn't treated much as a guest

I first had an issue because they required a credit card (cashless) for a security deposit. But once checked in I loved my room. But the next morning Beatrice wouldn't extend my stay by 1 hour because there had already been too many extensions.

Okay, but the hotel just started charging $25/day for parking. One of the big attractions of booking at Ayres was i didn’t have the feeling that they were trying to gouge me with parking fees. That attraction is gone. Ayres used to be my first choice when looking for a place to stay in Costa Mesa; no longer. It’s now just one of many choices.

Rm 202 is directly above the lobby & the layout of the lobby has the highly unfortunate effect of amplifying sound upwards. I was awoken by flight crew groups checking in after 10pm and then other crews checking out before 5am. I have previously stayed in other rooms & had a pleasant experience. But Rm #202 was horribly noisy.

Relaxing...nice hot tub.
