A beautiful, light, attractive cottage with an exceptional setting right on the river, with the riverside walk just outside the door. Very quiet, no traffic passing the door. Small supermarket a short walk away. Lots of things to do in the wider area, to suit all interests. Would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.

It was the second time we had stayed at the property. We love staying there because of the house itself and the great location on the banks of a tidal river.

Excellent. We hope to rebook in the not too distant future.

It's a wonderful and spacy house, we didn't miss anything. The look on the river Colne is very nice, just sitting on the bench in front of the house or the chair at the window. We loved it.
The equipment in the house fulfills every need, maybe a coffee machine would be nice.
We can recommend the house to everybody.

Beautiful house and wanted to stay there forever. Great host and the house had lots of additional things like washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets which was really helpful. Also a decent amount of toilet rolls which is unusual! The location was simply perfect and beautiful. We had the best time and will be booking in future.

Comfortably and well situated for visiting a number of National Trust houses which we enjoyed. Lovely cottage overlooking the water. We had everything we needed
and fitted out well. All very clean and tidy.

Close to both London and lovely little villages, Rowhedge has it all. There is a pub, a cafe and a Coop all within a 2 minute walk of the cottage. If you don’t have a car, You need a bus( 4 pounds return) or a taxi( 20 pounds return) to get into Colchester train station, but well worth it. We stayed for a month and enjoyed every minute!
London 3x, Colchester, Tiptree, Mersea, Brightlingsea, Dedham, York, Clacton on Sea and several trips into Colchester. Great vacation, accommodating hosts.

This home location was perfect for enjoying the tidal activity and watching the water birds. We did occasionally leave to explore other towns, but why leave perfection? Thank you for the special touches, like the blankets when we sat outside with our morning coffee! Thank you for sharing your home, Cheers! Stephanie

Thank you so much Heather for the truly wonderful stay at your beautiful cottage. We had such a great time staying there as a base for our 8-week holiday from NZ. The cottage had everything we needed and more and the village of Rowhedge was so quaint and peaceful. Thank you so much for going the extra mile and for the great communication. We could not recommend it enough.

This property is clean, comfortable, very comfortable mattresses and has everything you need. There are beautiful walks all around and the two pubs were very friendly. The local shops provided everything we needed. We had a lovely holiday and would like to return. Thank you. x

A wonderful choice for our annual break together. So lovely watching the ever changing tide, catching the ferry from the jetty a stone throw away, to potter in Wivenhoe. Although Rowhedge is very quiet, within a few minutes walk we enjoyed a delicious home cooked meal at the Anchor pub and tea and cake at the row club “hut”. On the Saturday, a pop up bakery appeared, having travelled across on the ferry. The bus takes you into Colchester. I travelled by train and bus, my friends drove and their cars stayed put, so easily done by public transport. We loved it and hope to return.

Wonderful waterfront cottage
The cottage was lovely, clean and comfortable and with everything provided (including hand soap etc!). There are even a couple of crabbing lines there. The cottage is right on the waterfront, with lovely views over the estuary and across to the village on the other side. We swum in the estuary at high tide. Lovely walks along the estuary. Very easy striking distance from both Colchester and Mersea Island, where the seafood is wonderful and very reasonably priced, as well as some lovely beaches for swimming. The overall atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly, without the pretentiousness of Norfolk. The host was very accommodating and answered a query or two immediately. Check in and check out was easy, too. All in all a lovely place to stay - would highly recommend for a family holiday.

Tranquil home from home
Our stay in Rowhedge was delightful! Everything about it was faultless, the location was perfect, near the local shop & pub (The Jam Jar - pizza on a Thursday was a winner!) The scenery was wonderful, our daughters enjoyed an attempt at crabbing on a few evenings too! The house is clean and everything is very well thought out. Heather was super quick to respond to any queries. It felt like we were in our own home with a change of scenery! I would highly recommend this place to anyone with family or even just couples who would like to escape the busy town for a tranquil home from home!

FIRST TIME TO ESSEX
An excellent property, very spacious, light and airy. The location right on the river was a delight - we spent many hours on the bench at the front watching the tide come and go. The parking space in the close was a big plus. Two good pubs, tea room and two convenience stores within 100 metres. Perfect!!

Clean and tidy cottage, very friendly. At every other rental property my family and I have stayed at there has been at least a pint or jug of milk to make a drink on arrival but there was nothing here, after a long journey a drink would have been nice. The floorboards in twin bedroom creak the loudest I have ever heard, enough to wake others in other bedrooms. There was also mention in guest book from a couple years ago about the television blanking out on one station frequently, this is now all channels all the time so you miss the important parts of conversation during program, so it could do with some attention. Apart from those couple of niggles a lovely spot to recharge the batteries and relax, view up and down the river was brilliant one could sit there all day.

we stayed here last year and found it so clean and comfortable and just so beautifully close to the river. It suited us very well as my husband is not very moblile and being so close to the walkway he could sit out front and socialise with passers by who are most friendly.

The cottage was very well equipped with everything you needed, it was clean and tidy, the heating was very efficient although not needed much due to the beautiful weather that we had. It is situated right on the banks of the river, the perfect spot to sit, with a book and forget the world for a short while. The village itself has an old world charm inspite of the recent addition of a new housing estate and having an excellent pub only a few steps from the front door was a big plus. We will definitely keep the cottage on our short list for future breaks.

Beautiful riverside house
Excellently appointed accommodation, clean, comfortable, warm, well equipped ... a real home from home. An added mportant bonus was the situation right on the bank of the tidal river Colne which was a constant source of fascination, and the fact that the village of Rowhedge had such an interesting maritime history.
