The Taj Mahal Palace is an absolutely magnificent hotel, and our room was incredible, with a fabulous bathroom and a lovely dressing area. It really is a special place to stay.
What stood out most, however, was the wonderful staff, Shereya and Ritika in particular. Unfortunately, my husband became extremely unwell during our short stay, and the hotel team simply couldn't do enough for us. Their kindness, concern and willingness to help were exceptional, and we were genuinely grateful.
As my husband was feeling so unwell and could only manage very plain food, we unfortunately had to cancel our dinner reservation at the Indian Restaurant, Loya and decided to order in. The food I ordered from the in room dining was superb. I had the samosa chaat and butter chicken, both of which were absolutely delicious, with incredibly generous portions, I was so sorry my husband couldn't try it.
Breakfast was very good, in a nice restaurant and helpful staff. There was a lovely lady, who I believe was a cleaner, who opened the door for us with a genuine smile, when we left the restaurant both mornings.
The netting over the swimming pool prevented all but two pigeons access to the outside area. What a fantastic idea! All hotels should do this as I have an aversion to birds. We only had one morning though to enjoy the outside space before we left for home.
Sadly, what should have been a wonderful stay was overshadowed by my husband becoming very unwell. As we only had one full day in Mumbai, his illness effectively ruined our trip by way of our planned city tour and much of our time at this iconic hotel.
The restaurant in the Tower, Shamiana, was a let down. I really feel that a hotel of this calibre should reconsider its included dinner offering or just offer B&B. Perhaps guests could be offered a choice of restaurants within the hotel, or at least the opportunity to pay a supplement to dine at one of the restaurants in the main Palace. We would certainly have chosen that option, particularly as the quality of our subsequent in-room dining demonstrated just how excellent the food can be.
One other criticism concerns the bed linen. Although our room was magnificent, the sheets felt distinctly damp, almost as though they hadn't been completely dried before being put on the bed.
I must finish by giving the hotel credit as a doctor arrived almost immediately to attend to my husband and prescribe medication, and the staff went out of their way to look after us. They made some very kind gestures which were genuinely appreciated and demonstrated exceptional hospitality.

Classic hertiage meets, modern comforts of the new age needs...
Absolute pinnacle of hospitality and grace, every corner/angle has a story and a visual stimulation designed to captivate your senses.
The history walk, e-carriage and high tea were great highlights... there's so much more but i'll let you experience the magic.
Nothing, all was perfect.

The hotel serves breakfast in a dinghy ballroom once the main breakfast hall on the ground floor becomes full which is not picturesque at all and really dilutes the experience of staying at the hotel touted to be the crown jewel of luxury hotels in India and Mumbai. We also felt my parents were profiled by the staff of the hotel's coffee shop due to their traditional attire which was quite disappointing considering the backstory of this hotel, the hostess kept mentioning repeatedly that the coffee shop wasn't free or included as a part of their package even though they had no such expectation and were happy to pay. It was finally straightened out by the coffee shop's manager but they went through the same experience the next morning which made them feel that it's a standard practice at the hotel. (My father was wearing a kurta pyjama and my mother was wearing a saree.)
