We had a long weekend to discover fossils. The shepard hut is situated in the middle of a stunning landscape. The peace and quite was delightful, just the occassional bleet of the sheep and tweets from the birds. The hut has all the basics required, an air fryer, toaster, hob, fridge, tv, hot shower and a comfy bed. There is  big Tesco a few miles away in Llandrindod Wells, to stock up on supplies. There is a EV fast charger in the high street carpark. We spent the mornings chipping away in the quarry looking for trilobites, with sone great finds. In the afternoonn we visted the Elan Valley reservoir and went along to the various dams situated in the valley. We also went to see the Water-breaks-its-neck waterfall, which was very dry this year. Luckily we had a clear night and the only cloud type thing we could see was Milky Way, it was stunning to see so many stars. Upper Gilwern Quarry Hut is a fantastic get away, it gave us time to decompress from the outside world and just chill out.

Stunning location with amazing views. Wildlife out of every window. Comfortable and cozy accommodation with everything you could need. Emma was brilliant throughout.

This place really does live up to the photos and expectations. I had wanted to visit for some time and I'm so glad the opportunity finally presented itself. It is very clean and comfortable accommodation with excellent facilities. It is in a lovely remote location and made for the most peaceful and relaxing few days. Fossil hunting was enjoyable and although it needed quite a lot of effort I managed to bring home a couple of brilliant specimens that I'm really pleased with that will be nice memories of the visit.
