Hotel Gran Duca di York True Stay

Actually, I am happy to rate this hotel 4-1/2 stars. During my 3 weeks of touring the N. Italy Lake District, we stayed in several 4 star rated hotels, but I really liked Hotel Gran Duca di York overall: the welcoming reception upon arrival, the very helpful staff, the great city central location within 10 mn of the famous Duomo, which was wonderful to retrieve to from the 90s temperatures in between my exploration walks. The room was clean and my window had a lovely view with trees. I had to pick up & toss some bug that probably was trying to cool off, but besides that, everything was great. The unexpected welcome touch was the several cool water and juice bottles in the refrigerator which were complimentary! I was also told of the evening Prosecco hour in the lobby lounge, but I did not have the time to visit. The breakfast selections were fine, even though my healthy diet wished for certain items like plain nuts, some mixed fruit cups (rather than individual cups of strawberries, or kiwis, or pineapple) to add to my plain yogurt, artisan whole grain/multi grain breads. The croissants looked like store bought instead of fresh baked from a local bakery. However I enjoyed the roomy bright breakfast area and the nice attentive staff.

Central location with good A/C. Good sized rooms with updated bathrooms. Very helpful and gracious staff.

Perfectly located with wonderful rooms, staff and amenities. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The availability of water and other drinks in the mini bar and lobby without extra cost was invaluable. The air conditioning was perfection.

I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Gran Duca di York. It is in a very good location next to Pinoteca Ambrosiana and not far from the Duomo. It is a short walk to cafes and shops. The hotel was clean with well-equipped room and bath, staff was friendly and helpful and breakfast was good (though I wish they had been faster with coffee refills!). Nice touches like welcoming note with flower and chocolate and free items in fridge. I would definitely stay there again.
