The Neon Elm Hotel

For the price it’s an interesting experience, in a good way! A historic building yet the rooms felt like a cozy dorm room. Everything in that room felt like it was able to he reached within 10 steps. And the rooms are nicely remodeled. I would stay here again just due to the keypad code to enter the building and another code to enter the room. Very secure. While on-site parking isn’t available. We did not have any trouble finding street parking. We found a spot right outside without a parking meter and right outside our room. And were able to view it from our room too. Not to far from Gaslamp or the airport too.

Great very easy to check in and beautiful place to stay

If you need a clean, simple stay and you are on a budget, this place is perfect. Pros: located in downtown, low prices, parking, perfect for couples, great atmosphere Cons: old building, A/C, room size, communication (see details below) The communication method is pretty much entirely through messaging. This can be a lot for someone who isn't tech savy, or someone who likes hotel service interactions. The building is very old, and the decor inside is really rustic and regal - but some of the units do not have AC units. When I stayed here, the first room we had did not have an AC unit and only had a ceiling fan. Our room did not get below 85 degrees, and the windows did not stay open - so no air flow. I reached out to the hotel via online messaging, they were extremely responsive. My only gripe was the fact that most of the communication was conducted via messaging. That being said - they were able to reassign us to another room with an AC unit and were extremely efficient through the process. All in all - if you are traveling on a budget, if you only have 1 or 2 people traveling, and you want to stay in downtown San Diego - this is the perfect place for you. The overall experience was great, and I would be happy to stay again.
