Tropicana Hotel Puerto Vallarta

This is a large property directly on the waterfront. It is nicely located in the Romantic Zone for very easy walk ability to restaurants, shopping, and bars. The rooms are neat and clean and the landscaping in the back pool and courtyard areas is beautiful. The pools are huge and inviting. I believe this was once a very majestic resort, but it is aging a bit now so don't expect modern architecture and finishes. It is very nice for its age, just don't expect the "brand new" feel. If you must have the fanciest and glitziest architecture and furnishings, the Tropicana is not for you. If you enjoy a comfortable and relaxed environment, you'll probably love it. There is a bar & grill by the pool, with plenty of seating or dine poolside. Bar service poolside. Beautiful sunsets over the beach from the infinity edge pool. You can also stroll down the beach for easy access to waterfront restaurants nearby. No car is necessary to enjoy the Romantic Zone.

I'm fine with older properties, but if you must have "brand new" you might not like it

Everything was close to the hotel and everything was from walking distance. The staff were amazing!

I have always loved the Tropicana for years because it was affordable and clean and had good service. The location right on the beach is great.

Prices have doubled to tripled in the last five years. Although prices are not horrible, the hotel is falling apart. There are stains on the side of the buildings. A lot of the pools tiles in the pool are missing, the waitstaff is horrible. You cannot get anybody to wait at you on you at the beach. Local families bring all their own food and booze very poorly confiscated and sit on the beach drinking their own stuff. The bartender is not friendly at all. Tourists hog up all the pool chairs early in the morning and then they leave with their towel on the chair so you can’t ever get a pool lounge.
