The lobby area of the hotel was lovely and grounds were nice
We had a dog with us. The hotel claims to be dog friendly, whilst they achieve this on some level i.e. you can take a dog with you, you are then extremely limited on use of the hotel.
Dogs cannot be left alone in a room- this is fine, a few hotels accept this but it is fair enough, but it did mean we couldn't use the spa facilities unless we went separately.
The biggest issue was eating. We had booked breakfast, at no point were we told that there was nowhere in the hotel we could eat breakfast and have our dog with us. I fully understand having no dogs in the restaurant and I wouldn't like this myself however seeing the layout, I see absolutely no reason why well behaved dogs cannot be in the bar area. I even spoke to the hotel customer services on the telephone to book the dog in and no point was I informed of this, despite them being fully aware we had booked breakfast with a dog.
We had two choices, go to breakfast separately or put the dog in the car, which is sadly what we did. I had paid for the hotel for us to enjoy a short break so eating separately really would have spoiled the experience but I was not happy about leaving the dog in the car either!
Similarly in the evening, we had full intentions of eating at the hotel, and having a few drinks in the bar but this was not possible with a dog so we had no choice but to either go out or order a takeaway in. When I explained the situations to the reception they offered us no alternative so I assumed there wasn't one.
Dogs are £10 a night, plus a £50 deposit, that ordinarily is fine but seems steep when the only place they can go is your room or lobby. He didn't create any mess or nuisance at all, so in theory we paid more but had very limited access to the hotel facilities.
