The Shoes

Cleanliness matters a great deal to me when I choose somewhere to stay, and The Shoes B&B truly exceeded my expectations. The sheets, pillows and duvet were all immaculately clean and smelled wonderfully fresh. The staff were very friendly and made me feel welcome throughout my stay. The location is excellent too, so I really can’t fault it. I’d happily stay here again on my next visit to Durham.

When I arrived I was slightly concerned that the room would not be as quiet as I had hoped because it was on a main road and above a pub. I need not have worried at all. The room was very quiet indeed, perfect temperature, strong WiFi (important because I needed to work) and the bed was very comfortable. Billy emailed me before I arrived and I told him I was vegetarian. When I arrived he made sure that there were some vegetarian sausages for my breakfast. I had a very enjoyable stay, and the place was excellent value for money.

There was a nice selection for breakfast and my veggie option was freshly cooked. The location was what I expected.

A more comfortable bed would have been better.

Not too far from the centre and although it was an uphill walk home. There was a bus service outside. Good parking at the side of the hotel. Room was small but adequate.

A great deal of steep stairs to room 3 which would be a problem to a person with mobility issues. Shower and toilet located over the landing in view of room 2. Asked if we could book breakfast when we arrived at 12 for the next day and this was a problem although there were other guests having breakfast. She advised us where the nearest MacDonald ect were located. Rooms furniture and bed linen were shabby and required updating.
