Our family had a wonderful stay at Hidden House. In truth, it was much more spacious than our 7 family members needed. We loved spreading out, and we didn't even use 3 of the 7 bedrooms. Great porch, well- equipped kitchen (and we had a couple serious cooks among us), lovely views, peaceful, comfortable, great location for easy access to ANP, Bar Harbor, NEH, etc. We have been coming to MDI for decades and would definitely recommend this property!

Very comfortable home with plenty of space, plus a large deck with great views

Property is good, but aged... furniture is well used.

Great location to everything Mt Desert Island has to offer. Plenty of space for a large family. Though take note is you are traveling with anyone elderly or handicapped it does take a flight of steps to get in and out of the home. My mom walks with a cane and she struggled a bit.

On this, our first trip to Acadia National Park, my original inclination was to find a property in or near Bar Harbor. I'm glad I failed. Hidden House, with seven bedrooms and six bathrooms was perfect for accomodating our large family gathering (10 adults, 2 children). AND, Seal Harbor is full of charm and not full of bustling tourists. We loved the area. Hidden House is within an easy walk of the beach, and the Seal Harbor "high street" has several high-quality shops. Two especially helpful features: we were able to get all twelve of us around the dining room table, and the living room was also large enough for us to sprawl out and hang out together.
The house is old, meaning not everything is perfect, but the perfection of the layout, and the workability of the houes for our group more than compensated for a few minor inconveniences.

Character of the old house did not disappoint! Wavy glass windows, vintage doorknobs, screened door in the kitchen. Lovely! The location was great and the trails to the beach area are wonderful for exploring. Woke up with a turkey making it's call daily! Lots of wildlife to be seen! The house does need a little refreshing and updating. Wonderful time for everyone!

Better than even expected to stay in this majestic home full of history and comfort. Very welcoming for large groups as the home was built solidly and with zones to contain privacy and noise. Heat very responsive! Beautiful views across the huge south deck with wicker seating, tables and very nice grill. All the appointments were very welcoming.
Rosemary was extremely responsive! The home is magical! We are grateful!

This is such a great location. We were able to walk to the trails and the ocean. The views were beautiful. The house was neat and clean. We used the kitchen and the two sinks were great.

The only little issue was the house was not clean when we arrived for check in-but a cleaning crew was sent right over and after a couple of hours we were all set. Location great, house size perfect for 10 people: meals, game playing, relaxing on the deck, enough space for all. Easy drive to Northeast Harbor and Bar Harbor. Walk into the park no problem. Would stay there again especially with a group this size,

Pros:
This home has a superb location for families visiting Acadia National Park. It was within walking distance of a free Island Express Shuttle to downtown Bar Harbor and a 0.2 mi drive to one entrance to Acadia. The home has many many rooms and beds. Great home and would rent again! Rosemary, the host, was excellent at communicating with us and the house was as promised in the description. There is a great view of the water as the house is located on Ox Hill which overlooks Seal Harbor....just beautiful. My husband and I would drink our morning tea on the front porch and head our for a walk along the harbor every morning....quiet, peaceful, friendly people.
Cons:
Poor wifi and cell service (we have verizon) is almost absent at the house. Dated kitchen and house.
For us, the cons meant we spent more time disconnected and truly together as a family. The age of the home was noticeable but nothing was uncomfortable....I think it fit in with the charm of being in New England.
Overall...5 stars and I would recommend this property.

Wonderful classic Maine house
Everyone in our family, from 2 to 68 years old, loved this house. There were days when we didn’t want to leave for planned activities in the park because it’s such a great place to hang out. There were 11 of us and plenty of space to sleep and spread out. We ate all but one meal outside on the porch, and the kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. Communication with the hosts was always quick and easy. Would recommend or stay here again with hesitating!

Beautiful Seal Harbor summer cottage with privacy and gorgeous views of Seal Harbor. This is a home that retains its original character and interior.

A Special Place!
Hidden House was everything we had hoped for. Lots of space for family to gather together or to spread out if desired. Lots of charm and character. It's old so not everything works perfectly but the owners were quick to address any little issue that popped up. Loved the comfortable family feel of the place and loved being in Seal Harbor! Planning to visit again in a few years.

Nice big house but needs updates.
Enough BRs and BAs for large groups. Nice location to Acadia and Bar Harbor. However, house needs many updates and maintenance. Not enough glasses and coffee cups.

Perfect location, beautiful view
Hidden House reminded me of the cottage I vacationed in as a child on Lake Huron. The ambiance is nostalgic and homey, with beautiful antiques in this large house. The view is beautiful, whether from the deck or living room or many bedrooms. The location is very convenient to Acadia’s carriage roads and the Seal Harbor beach.

Great place to stay in MDI
My family and I had a great time staying here. The location is amazing and the house is spacious and charming. The back deck/porch was the highlight for us with its view.
The house was a little difficult to access for the grandparents since there is no well lit path from the parking to the stairs. You park at the basement level, so stairs are required to get to the first floor. This is not meant to be a complaint, but I figured others might be traveling with elderly and find this information useful. The house is very old, which gives it its charm. It’s age shows when it comes to most bathrooms and the kitchen. I would not recommend this house to anyone looking for luxury, but for anyone else I think this is a great place to gather with a large family or group of friends.

We loved this rustic home in Seal Harbor. Was perfect for our family. So close to Acadia National Park and Seal Harbor Beach. Was nice to be away from the crowds at Bar Harbor. It is a lovely welcoming home and I highly recommend.

The property was charming, delightfully historic, rustic, quaint, large enough, plenty of bathrooms, and affordable. There was plenty of space for us all to sleep and spread out. Everything seemed to work properly. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies and cooking utensils. Having two sinks was wonderful! It would be great to have an additional refrigerator for large groups, though. We made it work by using a cooler for drinks. The dining table was wobbly, but we were careful and it worked out.
A few other things need attention like the shower surround in one of the downstairs showers is pulling away from the wall. This could damage the wall behind. I hate to see this amazing property get damaged. A bathroom upstairs is missing an exhaust fan, which could also contribute to mildew overgrowth and damage to the property without attention, which would be terrible. Also, in the powder room, the faucet sprays backwards, water pools behind the faucet and falls to the hardwood floors. Also could result in damage over time.
Also the railing on the deck is rotting in a couple of spots and could use repair. Finally, the grill did not fire up sufficiently hot enough to cook burgers so we chose not to use it. There were plenty of pots and pans in the kitchen to cook with.
There is no AC, which we knew going into our stay. However, temperatures reached 90+ degrees the first several days we were in town. A fan for each bedroom (there are only 2 fans) at the property would be nice for the rare occasions that Mt. Desert Island experiences high heat without sufficiently low temps overnight to provide relief. Or, if you are coming over summer, consider bringing a fan of your own.
The location was fantastic. Very close to a little trail and seal harbor beach and hunter's beach. Super convenient to Acadia, too. Also it was within 20 minute drive of Bar Harbor.
For the price, as this property is very affordable, it was mostly as expected. I have no real complaints. Our family of 12 (65yo parents, my siblings, all our spouses, an infant, plus my two children) had a lovely time. I simply hope that some of the minor issues can be given attention to protect this neat property for future enjoyment.

We were pleasantly surprised when arriving at the property. The pictures do not do justice to the history associated with the home and how much room there is! We had two families staying here (11 people total) with seven kids ranging from 10 years old to 2 years old and not once did the house feel cramped. Quiet area and easy walk down the hill to the beach. While the house could use some updating in the kitchen and bathrooms, it definitely has charm and contributes to the overall experience of the trip. Everything we needed was available. Gorgeous views and huge deck with grill to enjoy the outside (don't forget bug spray)! Any questions we had were quickly answered by David and Rosemary. There were two kayaks and a canoe available in the garage, but the water was so cool the kids opted not to try. We would definitely stay again!

Great house overlooking Seal Harbor
We loved the neighborhood and the close access to the National Park. We had lovely walks with the dog. We could just roll out of bed and be at a trail in no time. The house was great without being too posh. The caretaker was very helpful when we called.

My husband and toddler stayed at this house for a week and really enjoyed our stay. The property was clean, warm, and was well stocked. It is an older house, but it has great charm. It is also minutes away from multiple Acadia entrances, which was a huge perk for accessing the park during the busy October time period (where reservations are required, and parking was tough to come by). The house is also a quick and direct drive into Bar Harbor for dining, shopping, and waterfront views. The owners were very responsive when we had questions prior to and during our stay, and check in was a breeze. We really enjoyed our stay and our daughter is already asking to head back to "our" Maine house.

Hidden House is Amazing
Me brother in law, Coton de Tulear and I had an incredible time at Hidden House late Sep/early Oct. The pictures on VRBO, though beautiful, do not do the house justice. The views are breathtaking and the house has a welcoming and peaceful character about it.
The house was very well equipped - even an immersion blender. Acadia was right there - could just walk into the park.
The owners and caretaker were so helpful. The furnace was broken when we arrived but was replaced within the first couple of days and the owner was super communicative. The house really did not need a furnace. The fireplace was more than enough. Even opened windows at night to sleep in the cool New England autumn. The colors are amazing, perfect time of year to visit. Already booked TWO weeks next year. Cannot wait to return. Many thanks to Rosemary and David for their hospitality.
