The convince
Old decor, anti social pool open times, lack of bar staff, no extra pillows had to ask. Loud banging doors. Shower head was broken.

Not much choice to eat during the day

The staff were extremely helpful and so kind, upon arrival they even upgraded our room. Lovely location as it’s close to Tullochgrue Black Park and the town centre, local buses can be unreliable but the walk up is lovely. The facilities are great and the range is amazing, really enjoyed the breakfast. Looking forward to coming back in winter next time :-)

There were fun activities for the kids.
There was not enough staff, we were waiting a long time at the bar and reception.
Maybe it was mentioned when booking, but we didn’t realise there was no lift so was a struggle lifting our luggage and pram up the stairs.
Not all the pool facilities were working when we were there, no hot tub.
The American Diner had a limited menu and would not recommend.

We all enjoyed the breakfast loved the fact it was dog friendly the lounge was very spacious and seating was comfortable
Quite expensive for the size of the room, house keeping never got done on day 2 had to ask reception for toilet roll and I had to take it back to my room I also had to change my quilt cover as it got wet for the money I paid this should have been done for me

We did receive a upgrade of room as hotel was not too busy, which was nice and the bed was very comfortable.
The food - this hotel is a distance from Aviemore centre where a better choice of food could be found. Charged £24.95 for a buffet 3 course meal. The food was not a good standard for price - soup cold as was meat and overcooked - good selection of cakes for desert, but again likely bought in bulk and defrosted. We only ate there once.

Good family atmosphere
Beds were terribly uncomfortable and very creeky. Both my partner and I had a terrible sleep unfortunately.

I liked the Live entertainment in the evening
The breakfast wasn't great. The orange juice in that machine is beyond terrible. It's like water with orange powder flavouring. It had a foamy powdery texture to it. There was no yoghurt only the 2 bowls kids were playing with and messing with. The very least i would expect with a paid breakfast is fresh orange juice.
It wasn't this poor quality the last time i stayed. It put me off dining or spending anymore money in the hotel in the evening hence walking into Aviemore every single evening. I skipped breakfast 3 times in 5 days it was bad. I paid 907 well over the odds because Thunde in the Glen was on.

Breakfast was OK. The best thing about the stay.
Service. Evening Staff. Food. Cleanliness of room. Being told at 9pm (after arriving at 7.30 approx) that the tills had failed, no drink could not be served even though there was music entertainment, no drink could be ordered through room service. £25 per head for a pretty awful dinner. Your menus displayed on every table in the main bar/foyer didn’t do bar food apart from Fri/Sat we were told - utterly hopeless!!!! The guy next to us in the restaurant had a children’s dinner because he didn’t fancy the poor / lack of stuff on offer in the restaurant.
It used to be much better than this. It used to be so well regarded. Not sure why it was so dreadful this time.

The breakfasts were fairly good. Expensive though
Room was tiny, a standard double had the bed and not much else.
The bedrooms and corridors were very dated.
No lifts either, small stairwells to floor 2

Staff are friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was good value for money with lots of choice.
Great pool for kids and also the entertainment and games arcade were good too!
Sadly the breakfast staff looked always understaffed and stretched- Please employ more staff for the breakfast shift!

Venue
We were compensated for the last minute change of room with free dinner but we queued for a table not knowing we should have booked and were turned away until we showed our comp tickets.
There was a long queue for breakfast so we walked away without any. Not enough staff!!
We had no window/natural light in our room. There was lots of noise outside our room such as bottle bins being emptied. Turns out we were placed next to the service door to the kitchen/service area.
We were woken by a fire alarm at 7am in the morning!!!??? That had a knock on detrimental effect to our day and that part of our touring holiday.
We will not be returning.

Friendly staff. Good to see investment being made in the hotel. In comparison to recent stays in the ‘annex’ the room was spacious and comfortable.

poor food offer - lots of smokers on deck in one of the eateries
noisy evening entertainment

Location
Very squeaky beds. Got woken up at 3.30am by hotel phone going off, which scared the hell out of the dog and ruined our evenings rest.

It served a purpose
It's a shame because it is just a very tired hotel....I'd be wiling to pay more if they invested some money on facilities, carpets etc

Breakfast was good.

Fairly good room but no window
Extra fee for almost everything : early check in...
Only one hour slot allowed at the swimming pool
Quite far from everything and Aviemore (30min walk), no bus or taxi is running before 9a.m. So not a good option if you don't have a car.

the woodshed bar was nice, it was close to everything we needed, live music in the main bar was great.
the ‘small double’ needs some photos to show how small they actually are!! no room for movement and barely fit an adult couple in the bed. noise was awful (not something hotel can direct control) but the bed was literally at the door so head was against the noise. nothing was ever cleaned up in both the woodshed bar and the main lobby everyone’s rubbish was left lying for ages on tables/the floor. before arrival emails were sent to hotel and some of the reply’s where less than pleasant.

staff were very friendly and helpful. location was great. it was cheap
room was very dated. beds very uncomfortable. rooms very basic and not particularly clean. there were grapes on the floors in random places

The kids enjoyed it.
It felt like the staff didn't want to he there, and we were in their way. From the barman to the woman behind the coffee counter. The restaurant was obviously short staffed, and poor food choices. We ended up having pizzas and they were amazing. However, it was either pizza or the £26 pp buffet.
We walked to the Woodshack for a drink and light meal (bar outside the main building) but it wasn't open. It was absolutely disgusting outside though. Glad it was shut as the mess outside put us off anyway. Was there a few years ago and it was definitely alot better. Although the kids had a good time, I wouldn't waste my money on going back. Better off paying a bit more and going to another hotel/resort.
We also had our wee dog with us. I paid the £15 charge for the night and I was told an additional £50 would be charged as a pet deposit or refund pet fee. This was supposed to show as a £1 charge on my account. Reception explaining the £50 won't actually be deducted from my account, but after we left I noticed I was charged £50!! So I paid £65 for my yorkie for the night.

I liked that there was plenty of areas to sit and relax in. There wasn't alot of noise on the thursday or Friday night. Saturday there was, but that was expected.
The buffet breakfast was good, lots of choice.
The dogs were allowed everywhere but the restaurant so we sat in the hall outside the restaurant where tables had been placed which we appreciated and thought it was very inclusive.
When we went to reception to book an extra night it was twice the price as opposed to on booking.com
The room had a smell of dampness around ot and was freezing cold when we first got there. Would have been nice to have went into a room that was warm!
