We were not very happy with our stay. I requested a gluten-free meal in advance, due to an allergy. I confirmed this request by phone with the owner the day prior, however, at breakfast, I was served a meal that was not gluten-free. After I brought it to the owners attention, it was taken to the kitchen and the gluten items moved off of the plate and a spoonful of eggs Replaced the item. We had requested an early check in because we had to get ready for an event. We confirmed the exact time we would arrive with the owner, but when we arrived at the mansion, no one was there to let us in. After multiple phone calls with no answer, I was eventually called back 45 minutes later. When we walked into our room, it smelled of body odor and uncleanliness. There was blood on our shower curtain and the bathroom sink would not drain. Our bed cover had stains. The room we stayed in was extremely warm, which made it difficult to sleep. We made the best of it and stayed the one night, but will not recommend this place nor make a return trip.

Great location, safe. House is a wonderful tour back in time. Breakfast is very good and is a formal family setting. Sheila is amazing, we will return!

Well, I hope this does not happen to anyone else, but my partner had a medical emergency on the way to the BNB and Sheila actually came and rescued us! This is the kind of above and beyond service you can't really list on a website. The whole staff was lovely and did everything to make us feel comfortable.

Excellent location/host. Due to nature of trip was unable to experience breakfast. Plan on returning for pleasure.

Absolutly beautiful B&B. I've stayed in lots of B&B's and this is the best I've stayed at. World-class hostess.

Extremely warm & welcoming owner and staff. Great variety of rooms, beautifully staged — as were the common areas inside and out. Excellent breakfast hosted by our innkeeper, Sheila, who was every bit as interesting as the mansion and the eclectic group of guests present. We’d definitely stay again if in the area. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to friends and relatives.

This was an excellent place to stay . Will definitely use them again.

The room was small and there was street noise. Also, a hallway light shined through glass above the door which really impaired sleeping. The house is very pretty and has a lot of character….many carefully purchased items, including a staircase, create a memorable house, but the inability to enjoy a good nights sleep was frustrating.

Two thumbs up! Great service and hospitality.

A lovely B&B rich with history. Comfy bed, yummy breakfast and a wonderful host.
The downside was a huge roach in the bathroom upon arrival and the room was pretty dusty (the canopy had a ton of dust as did the lighting.) This property with a few upgrades such as better bedding, nicer welcome snacks (generic raisins and dole fruit cups) and a deep cleanse of the beautiful chandeliers, this would be a 5-star B&B.

LOVED staying here! Property is beautiful and unique. Within walking distance to restaurants and some boutique shopping. Felt safe walking to and fro. Breakfast was delicious and it was nice chatting with Sheila, the owner. If you stay, definitely take time to walk around inside, look at the pics and read about the history of the Mansion.

The historic home was beautiful, the wonderful decor was enchanting. Our room was comfortable and unique. Each room is decorated in a different theme. Breakfast was excellent.
We enjoyed our stay.
It was in walking distance to many restaurants, very convenient.

Sheila does an incredible job with this property; the rooms are each unique, clean, and showcase the history of the mansion. Breakfast is spectacular, and Sheila’s eagerness to share the backstory on her property is contagious. We highly recommend staying a night or two here and soaking it in.

I always stay at B and B if possible. This is beautiful, historic home furnished as one would imagine a brothel. The rooms are so overdone, crowded and too warm. The linens are cheap and dingy, the bed was very poor quality with coverlet that I removed to sleep. Very disappointing experience. This is not old southern charm.

Great bed. Like staying in a museum. The history of the elegant old south permeates the entire mansion. The host was fabulous. She even dressed for breakfast. You felt like a guest would have been treated many years ago. This is a place not to be missed. This experience is special. Do not miss.

So many lovely antiques, very quirky and Victorian! It was nice visiting with other guests at an elegant breakfast served on beautiful china. The only downside for us was dryer sheets used on the bedsheets, the odor bothers us some, but the facility was lovely overall, and so different from an average hotel. And it was very quiet, but convenient near downtown where we had business.

Elaborately restored 19th century Victorian house, easy walking to restaurants. A well presented, formal breakfast is served on a schedule (8:00 a.m.). Free parking is a bit of a squeeze, but works.

Never stayed in a B&B before and loved the historic nature of this one. The owner, Sheila, was great and very attentive. The bathroom sink didn't drain and a torn shower curtain liner were the only issues I encountered. I brought both to Sheila's attention. Very nice guests, great breakfast, and all amenities I needed. Great location with many dining options available.

The mansion is a fun step back in time. So much personality! I wasn't sure how I'd like the communal breakfast but it was fun to get to know the other guests and the food was great!
I highly recommend if you want something out of the ordinary. The price was great so I overlooked some cleanliness issues I wouldn't in an expensive hotel.

Free parking behind the building was easy and accessible. The breakfast the next morning was the highlight of our trip, the food was amazing and talking with the other guests was very enjoyable. We also really liked the clawfoot tub in our room. Thank you for the amazing time Sheila.

It was a beautiful room in a dream house. The breakfast was great. The snacks in the lobby were great, too! The proprietor wasn't in the building when we checked in, but we called her, and she gave clear instructions on how to get in, and where to park. We were grateful for the off-street parking, in the back of the building, from the alley. The bed was super comfortable, and we slept great! The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the coffee--I'm from Louisiana, and I like it strong--but everything else was great! I still give this stay a solid 10!

Very unique property.I feel like I stepped back in time. I was in town for a concert and our b&b ended up being the highlight of the trip! Wish Birmingham was easier to get to from Jacksonville,fl because I would be back and would love my parents to visit as well.

Loved the story and photos if Ira and Sheila's purchase of the dilapidated house in 2010 and the extensive renovation done in 2013. Each room is different and charming in its own way. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. We had a sandwich at The Garage and dessert at Bottega. Would recommend both.

Beautiful old home converted to a bed and breakfast. The owner and host was wonderful and really welcomed us in. Disappointments were a small and crowded room and a rather firm bed. I would stay here again knowing what to expect but the antique doll collection was a little creepy for my daughter. She decided to drive home instead of staying with us.

This was our fourth visit. Sheila is a gracious host and takes care to make her guests comfortable. Each room has a theme that is unique and fun. Over all, this is a great place to stay in Birmingham.
