Value for money and the breakfast is good. A short 8 mins walk to 2 nearby metro stations. Will come back to Holiday Inn Express Chengdu Gulou in the future.

Holiday Inn never disappoints

Location is central downtown and convenient to get taxi.

The most outstanding part of this hotel is its breakfast buffet! They have chef quality Sichuan food, not the American Sichuan food that is covered with chili. Real Sichuan food is fresh ingredient, and the purpose of the cooking is to bring out the flavors of the food. They have such a huge layout of the buffet, would take three average stomaches to get one sample of each

No frills hotel and kudos to the housekeeping team. The room is well maintained, clean and quiet. Buffet breakfast is average with local Sichuan choice. It seems like there is not any security during my 2 days of stay. Return to stay 7/10 for value of money and cleanliness.

Check-in was smooth and easy, front desk staff extremely helpful, even helped to arrange takeaway breakfast for our early departure the next morning.

Overall excellent value and cleanliness, good location, and included breakfast was reasonable. Not so good: staff English is too basic, despite the reviews I saw beforehand that said otherwise. Some staff turned and walked away as soon as I spoke, and when asking for advice or instructions it was often incorrect, difficult to arrive at an understanding of what I was actually asking, or just not useful at all. Wifi could be better.

Location, Reception and cleaning were excellent. Room was a little below my expectations with a horrible view to the rear over the rooftops of ugly older apartment blocks. I booked a double room with King Size bed which was confirmed at check in but got a standard (small) double bed. Breakfast was good, coffee was excellent. We ate one lunch in the hotel restaurant but it is better to eat outside. The hotel is very busy with international guests so breakfast got very noisy. No refrigerator in our room which was disappointing. Room was very quiet at night. 10 minutes walk from nearest subway station. Wifi sometimes rather weak. Otherwise a good choice for a short stay.

They are able to provide advice on my journey and give me a lot of help for my first visit of Chengdu. Staff training is very perfect, please keep it. Strongly recommended to everyone. This hotel is close to the downtown. Also, it is very close to the subway Luomashi and Taisheng South Road Station. There are also many stores nearby the hotes, it will capature your needs. About the drawback, the room type is limited and the breakfast is a kind of greasy.

Everything was cool about the hotel except for the staff working at the front desk! They have poor English skills, yes I understand English is not their first language and it is not mine either. But they were not ready to answer my questions. They charged me twice for the room claiming it was not paid by Expedia, and when I checked out they cancelled the second charge (bilked the money back to my card) but they did not even say sorry or show any form of an apology! When I try to speak with one of the staff all the other staff members will be laughing at the language barrier giving the fact I don’t speak Chinese. Gosh they cannot even understand body language or gestures, yes I know these kind of things are culturally bounded but I am assuming they had many international guests. I think the hotel needs to offer English as well as customer service classes to the staff. Thanks god I had friends living in Chengdu otherwise I would have been missed up!

Non smoking room is not truly non smoking. We can still smell the smoke throughout the room. No smoking is only applied to no smoking on the bed. It was written in Chinese this way. Air Con is controlled by the hotel. The room is very hot. When contacted the front desk, the only solution is to open the window. But the street is very noisy and more smoke odor coming in through the window. Pleasant breakfast selections. Room is partially updated. The old phone and hair dryer are so dated. The paint on top of the window are peeling off. Staff are very helpful at the front desk.

excellent service - check in was smooth. we mentioned we had an early flight to catch the next morning and the staff kindly offered to send a boxed breakfast with us. We spoke Chinese but it seemed like some of the staff spoke English. location is about 15 minute walk from Tianfu station - easy to find via google maps.rooms are updated, very clean.

We were very happy with our time at Holiday Inn Express Chengdu Gulou. Our room was very nice and the staff was extremely helpful with our questions. The hotel is not on a main thoroughfare so it is relatively quiet and yet it is in a convenient location. The complimentary breakfast buffet was a great value and offered many options which were delicious. We also appreciated the travel office at the hotel. The young woman who staffed the office was very helpful in assisting us with hiring a driver for one of our tours and suggesting that it would be too expensive to do it for another tour and showed us how to arrange travel on the high speed train which was much more affordable.

Overall, it's a good place to stay, but the wifi was very slow!

Good hotel for visiting Chengdu - close to all subway lines. The front counter staff don't know much English so had some difficulties at times having them understand my requests. The room was what one would expect in a Holiday Inn - the mattress and the pillows were great. The bathroom was small but had everything that one would need. The wifi was good and could be used throughout the hotel. The room key lets one up to their floor, which makes the hotel safe. The non-smoking floors are truly non-smoking - no lingering smoke smell in the hallway or the rooms. The air con worked well.

Nice hotel, good location, economic good designed layout room

Really good option in the city centre. Our taxi from the airport found it a little difficult to find but otherwise very happy with the stay. Easy checkin, room was bigger than I was expecting with a good bathroom. Good breakfast and WIFI. Easy to get a taxi around the city. Helpful staff that speak English. Highly recommend.

There is nothing to complain about at all and the hotel is what you would expect from a large chain and the staff who are excellent, helpful, friendly and with reasonable English. Breakfast buffet is fine with a range of western and chinese food and rooms were ok size with modern decor and comfy bed and good shower. Hotel is about 15 minute walk to Wengshu Temple but everything else was a taxi ride away - which was fine - there are plenty of them. There is a tour operator within the hotel who can sort out trips to see Pandas although to be honest, just get a taxi there and back - much easier and there is a queue of taxis outside the Panda centre waiting to take you home at around midday. Make the effort to get there early to see them being fed - we left at 7.30am.

It was quite a comfortable stay, although the location is not located at the main road, but easy to get taxi or bus to go to some hotspots in town within minutes.

I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights... This HIE is great because it has very comfortable bedding and shower facilities! The heating was reliable but made the room extremely dry throughout the night, had to keep moisturizing and but a cup of water at the bedside. The location isn't bad, though it does take around 10-15mins to stroll down to the nearest subway station! There are buses conveniently located, and going anywhere by taxi isn't expensive either, especially if you are carpooling with friends... There is also a business center with computers which you can use for free, so you can make any last minute plans for travels (as I always do) conveniently! Restaurants and chain convenience stores are just opposite the road and around close by. The only strange thing was that the cleaner consistently throws away any boilt water (that you leave to cool during the day), which was kind of frustrating! Haha, nonetheless it was a good quality stay, and probably would stay there again if there is another chance of a stay in Chengdu!

We used this as a home base for tours of the Sichuan area. Everything seemed fine. The breakfasts were outstanding. Room air control was so-so, but the beds were good and solid. Television had some English-speaking channels.

This is a standard business hotel in central Chengdu. They have clean, modern rooms, and a nice buffet breakfast. not all staff speaks good English, but it is acceptable. The hotel is within walking distance to the Tianfu Square (and the metro station at that square) and the central business district of the city. The hotel also has a tourism information office that can help with your questions regarding area attractions.

Staff very professional, breakfast spread reasonable, Fascilities very updated, quiet environment. Great for famiiy outing10 mins to Metro at Tienfu. Location is a little secluded but taxi knows the way

A very nice hotel located within walking distance of most city centre tourist attractions. The staff were fantastic and always very polite and friendly. Loved the breakfast. Only thing missing for me in the room was a refrigerator to keep drinks cold. A very pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel.
