It’s a more historically authentic experience than the other options in town. It’s great to sit at the upstairs deck

First time staying at The National Hotel, but definitely not our last. The rooms are small, but nice decorated with antiques. It’s what we expected from a historical hotel. Wonderful balcony outside to enjoy an evening beverage. And it’s pet friendly. All staff has been extremely helpful and accommodating.

the National Hotel is an historic property that has been continuously operated as a hotel since the 1870's. It's interesting and fun. The bathrooms are updated and nice. The bed was comfortable.
The best thing is the friendly, helpful staff.
We had a classy, tasty dinner in their dining room and the antique bar is fun and very friendly.
It's a good early California experience.

Victorian gem. Friendly and helpful staff! Great train museum in the town. Highly recommend this place. Great bar and restaurant. Did not meet any ghosts but was not in the right room for it

Brian was an excellent host.
This is an historic hotel so the rooms are a bit small but very quaint.
Dinner in the restaurant was very good. The drinks are large and nicely priced.

The facility was amazing. The only thing bad was my over priced dinner. My $49.00 New York Steak was terrible. Full of gristle. Dinner was way below par.

This historic hotel is amazing! Great place to stay

The room and property was very nicely decorated. The problem was the noise that went on in the room until 10 pm each night. The source was the kitchen ventilation system which translated to probably 100 decibels of constant noise in our guest room. There were jo windows that opened to outside air. The windows looked out directly to a brick wall which was the neighboring property resulting in a claustrophobic environment.

Walking into our room was like stepping back in time. The design was from the turn of the Century, right to the pull chain toilet and teddy bear on the terrific bedspread. The unoccupied rooms have open doors with little chains across so you can peek inside all the other charming spaces. The balcony was a great spot to watch the town move along its day, right across from The Emporium (1898). Biggest surprise was the fabulous dinner in the dining room, quaint, Victorian red and overstuffed, or choose the outside patio area. Food was amazing. A perfect getaway at a very reasonable price. Cheers to the new management.

Wonderful historic old style lodging on a quaint main street, have stayed here before. Common areas are kept very cold, meaning hallways etc. Room was very cold upon check-in, but eventually warmed up using in room heater. Shower drainage was very very slow causing buildup of water in its shallow tiled pan, was not able to notify staff of this as there was nobody available when I checked out. Dining room/bar menu is eclectic and extensive, cocktails delicious, but the food items I had were just average, nothing special (though the homemade sourdough bread roll amazing). Perhaps other items would be more memorable. Upstairs hallway morning coffee, tea and a couple takeaway breakfast items were lovely and very convenient. The 2 to 3 folks I met on staff and who run the place were all quite nice. Will no doubt be back despite a few shortcomings.

We checked in to learn our room had a bathroom across the hall, something that was not mentioned in the Expedia description or confirmation. The proprietor got us a room in another hotel (with a bathroom) and said we would be refunded for our room. We have not yet been refunded.

Pretty sure this hotel is haunted but the staff was wonderful, the food was delicious and the locals at the bar are entertaining.

It was a nicely appointed room. The bed and the pillow was the hardest I've ever slept on and woke with a sore back.

A great experience. Very clean and attractive room. The bar-restaurant has a good mix of European visitors, and locals, and California visitors.
I’ll be visiting again.

the historical significance of this property and everyone was so personable and friendly. The owner even offered us an evening drink as we headed to our room in the evening and we had coffee on the front veranda and read the history of each one of the buildings on the main street in the morning. Then walked around the town antiquing before heading out of town to Columbia a historical gold mining town nearby.

The atmosphere and stuff is cool. The lady that checked us in could have been nicer. I had called about a roll away bed, for my brother who was traveling with us, and she told my not to worry about it and they would figure something out. When I got there she said someone would just have to sleep on the floor. Not accommodating at all. We requested an extra blanket and pillow and she gave us a tiny blanket that looked like it was for a child.

Steve the owner is an amazing man, owning this historic property since the 70s, he still has the enthusiasm and love of the history in this historic building..The National is one of the oldest hotels in California and has been kept up to historical standards, giving one a feeling of stepping back 200 years but with modern comforts without losing its historical charm...when staying at the National, please write in the diary next to the bed as so many have over the years...This will be a regular stay for us for years to come...Thank you Steve....
