We booked this place because you can see the castle out the window. The apartment itself was great, although looking at the listing it shows photos of all three apartments so it was difficult to identify exactly which one we would be staying in. It didn’t really matter because we were there to see the castles! The key pick up wasn’t super easy, you have to go to a totally different town in the opposite direction from Fussen or Horn-Schwangau where the apartment is. I would suggest getting code locks on the doors so guests can bypass having to go out of the way to pick them up. The owner was great to communicate with but the property manager was spotty in responses. The apartment is a bit remote, with really not a lot of shops etc right around it. The closest bus stop was over 1km away, which would have been okay if we didn’t have only 75 year old mother in tow. It was even further to walk the closest grocery store. I would definitely recommend a car if you are going to stay here if anyone in your group has mobility issues. We did go to the thermal baths across the field on eafternoon and that was lovely, just note, clothing is optional in certain areas so keep that in mind so you aren’t shocked. Final note, the washing machine is not in the apartment, it’s downstairs in the basement, wonderful to have access to but there wasn’t clear details on where it was located so we had to do some investigating to locate it ourselves. Overall, beautiful beautiful location but just a bit more remote than we were expecting.

We LOVED the view from the balcony. Seeing the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles, along with the sunsets and thunderstorms behind the mountains was an unmatched experience. The location was incredibly walkable/bikeable for getting around. Less than 2 miles for anything you need, including some great restaurants and breweries, and you can ride bicycles or ebikes very easily almost everywhere. The area as a whole is quiet and peaceful. The unit itself is clean, roomy and has almost anything you’d need in an apartment. There was some basic damage when we got there (broken window shade, drywall chipped on a column, etc.), all normal stuff. Silke, the owner is very sweet and will try to do whatever it takes to make things work. Our single largest issue was not knowing a lot of the basics up front, ALL OF WHICH could easily be incorporated into the VRBO page. We are strong advocates for knowing as much as possible up front when we book a place. Hidden fees (not clearly shown at time of booking), can be stressful and in many cases onerous. The short stay fee of 120€ for less than 4 days is located in "House Rules" (not in Additional information about rental rates”), is written in German and requires one to click on "See More". In fact, it is the ONLY part of this particular VRBO location site that does NOT translate. So if you don't speak German, you have to have it translated for you. The guest fee and hygiene fees weren't mentioned either, and none of the three additional fees were mentioned at check out. ALL the hidden fees (145,5€, representing an approximate 33% increase in the rental) were required to be paid in cash. The refrigerator turned OFF, not even on low, even though they knew we were coming. Surprisingly, hand soap was not provided. Getting on the internet was a fiasco. There were two different networks and we had to move near the front door to access the router which was one floor below. The WIFI was worse than our phone data, so we turned it off. While there to collect the cash, it was uncomfortably obvious the property manager was casing the apartment to see how we were living in it. The property manager also asked us to shut windows if it's raining. but there is no air conditioning, although in the amenities it says there IS air conditioning. However, that wasn’t an issue when there was a nice breeze. It also says there’s a dryer, but we couldn’t find one. We did find a drying rack.

Every aspect of renting this property was smooth and simple. My husband and I enjoyed a week here in May and we loved the location and setup. We stayed on the top level which had many skylights in every room for beautiful natural lighting every day (even on the rainy snowy days we did not feel like it was dark and gloomy inside!) the view off the balcony was breath taking. We loved being in the peaceful neighborhood...far enough from the daily traffic down in the village but close enough to walk to it and explore. Supermarkets were wonderful and easy to use with everything we needed. Even though there were people in the other floors of the house, we rarely saw them or crossed paths because of the way the entrances are setup. It felt very private like we had the whole place to ourselves. The welcome booklet they provided in English was very helpful with all the info we needed about the area. I especially loved waking up and watching the sun rise over the mountains and seeing the beautiful views of the castles and village straight ahead.
