Booking.com was great making the reservation and even gave us a credit for booking through them. Professional staff and comfortable room. We have stayed at the Viking in the past. We looked forward to returning and were not disappointed until we received our AMEX statement. Look forward to booking at another facility the next time we are in Newport.

The guest in the room above us kept walking back and forth with heavy foot steps. The problem was the guest, not the facility. It lasted about 45 minutes starting at 9:00 pm. I have no idea what their issue was. Found that we had an additional $45.00 charge on our AMEX statement. Called and was told that it was for "Urban Destination Fee" $45.00, Really?? There was no mention in the fine print about this charge. We already had $50.85 Resort Fee, $45.00 parking, etc. Our $229.00 advertised room finally cost $410.00. Never heard of a Urban Destination Fee. Next trip we will book somewhere else.

The location is very convenient, there were two breakfast options: a smaller coffee shop and a sit down breakfast area.

The hotel offers your car parked by a valet - the only option unless you want to put money in the metre every few hours - was close $48 / night, which seems ridiculous since most hotels offer parking and the valet section was literally behind the hotel. The hotel is vast, we were given a room at one of the furthest parts which meant walking long distances, annoying when you have to carry larger items or are looking for ice. The room was small and the pillows sky high, I gave up using a pillow and used an item of closing instead. The bathroom felt dates and the loud air con kept coming on and off all night. Compared to other hotels on our trip definitely the most overpriced.

Room was clean. Location was convenient. Front desk staff was very friendly.

Front door staff didn’t help us get luggage inside, carried suitcase to top of steps and dropped them? Why not roll them into front desk with us? Market area needs more staff. Stood in line for 15 minutes for a cup of coffee. Not enough towels in the bathroom.

Where do I begin? The carpet had stain and specks of glitters all over the place. The tile floor had grout stain and “touch up” paint everywhere. Why is the bed skirt had wrinkles? Did anyone check the room before letting a guest check in? They asked me if I wanted water at check in, but I said no thinking there’re already water in my room. I asked the house keeper for water when they came to check on my broken shower curtain rod at 9pm… I got nothing!
