The room facilities were quite good and up to a standard you would expect from higher graded hotels. The big problem was the room size! The breakfast was provided by Restaurant North in the main hotel (Hotel Akureryi) and wasn’t in the price ( but some people seem to have a limited breakfast package). That said the Restaurant North provided a lovely varied Icelandic fare for the 5 days we were there (at extra cost but very reasonable).

The room was very small even by mini hotel standards and arranged so the double bed was pushed against the wall. So to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night you had to climb over your partner! We had asked for a ground floor room but arrived and were told there weren’t any - having booked in 5 months before this was disappointing. My wife has knee problems and negotiating the stairs was just about possible. Would have been happy to pay more for a ground floor room. Check in was all on line so no visible presence when you arrived ☹️.

Great atmosphere. The room was clean and the location was great. Check in is automatic and access to the room is done by entering a pin.

The door to my room was not soundproof. I was brutally awaken way too early, by beeps and alarm sounds from down the hallway, when a guest had forgotten the pin to his or hers room was trying again and again to enter the wrong combination. Kind of ruined my stay since my number one priority is good rest, especially before driving straight to Reykjavík.

Convenient to town. Accommodating staff, especially with airline delays. Plus the kept our fridge stocked with favorite snacks.
