Tosei Hotel Cocone Ueno

Location is superb, which, with the tariff, was why I chose it in May for two of my girls and again, for myself, wife and 8 year old son, in September and October. The free toiletries, the plethora of fresh towels, the staff and free hot chocolate were great.

The room size for one but you can't change that; that is Japanese hotels for you. Luckily on our second stay (after visiting Kanazawa)we were able to move up to a twin room for $50/night extra and it was worth it as we could open our suitcases without putting them on the bed and get past them to get in and out. Big peeve was the bathroom. They set them nearly a foot off the ground in a self-contained cubicle and the step down was jarring with no hand holds for this old veteran and his knees. My wife slipped and hurt her foot at our Kanazaa hotel which had the same design and we were wary every time we had to use the bathroom. Add to that the otherwise superb toilet having a bum roaster of a seat. Couldn't turn it down; always very, very warm.

The location of the hotel was fabulous. Right next to train and food- what could be better. The amenities were generous. Rooms were spotless and the staff approachable and very helpful.

Very close to the train stations. Market and other places

Close proximity to Ueno Park.

Too small for two.
