The house is everything we needed and hoped for, a few steps from a beautiful beach. Host was thoughtful and communicative. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend or book again.

There are pros and cons to this property. We left this rental after a few days once we found another place to stay.
Pros: A/C worked great. Nice washer/dryer, beautiful beach.
Cons: property is just not being maintained. Rips in the screens, so bugs easily enter. Deck at the dune over looking the water is rotted in many places. Sea-grape trees are way overgrown, you have to duck and watch your step to get to the deck. All but 2 of the beach towels were frayed. Sheets very old. Outdoor cushions all old and mildewed. The property was musty and smelled like we were in an antique shop. Old dead bugs left under lamps and in corners. It could be great, but should not be rented until it gets some TLC.

What a lovely way to spend the Christmas holiday! Sallie is a wonderful owner who helped us coordinate grocery delivery as we arrived on Christmas day and knew the shops would be closed. Her caretaker was very helpful and responsive.
We enjoyed waking up to the sound of the ocean, snorkeling the private beach, relaxing on the porch swing or hammock with a book and soaking up all that this beautiful island has to offer! The house was spacious and well-appointed, and the location can't be beat! Just minutes from GH town or an easy drive north to Gregory town, we would definitely stay here again! While we did lose internet on the third day of our trip, the house has plenty of VCR movies and board games to keep everyone entertained!

Cares away is lovely and beautifully stocked. It was roomy and had a classic indoor/outdoor feel and is perched on top of a bluff with great views. Would consider this for groups of multi generation or two families as well as the bedrooms are nicely spread out. There is room to serve meals both on the porch and indoors which can be hard to find. We really appreciated the host and her team who dealt with my several questions about island life and our travel limitations. We spent a week during a winter storm, so we weren’t able to do any snorkeling or swimming off our beach, but I suspect this was a very rare occurrence. I would say a few things as advice- you need to read about and understand the island, you must rent a car and be prepared to drive maybe 20-40 minutes to explore, call businesses ahead to check if they are open- often are run by one or two people and they need time off and have life events too!- just call ahead. Would bring some bug spray as with all islands and consider booking this property because of the AMPLE screened in space and window screens (made bugs a non issue for us). Then, look at the pics of the stairs, the steps are solid, safe, slightly on the steep side and require about two steps on to uneven rock coming down to the beach. If I had very small children or very elderly guests, I would still bring them but just have someone else with them when taking those last two steps. Certainly I had no concerns about it with our party and the beach is so close to the house -when you come, you’ll just love it. Thank you so much to Sallie and her team for having us. I will 1000% book again and really enjoyed this area of the island, the overall easy going vibes, kind local people and raw nature. Trip of a lifetime even with storm clouds in the sky! Side note- if you get rained out like us, there are enough DVDs and board games to get even our three teens through periods of minimal wifi and cell service and stuck indoors- they all say “movies and games at night” were their favorite part of the visit!

The home is well appointed, we had everything we needed. We had a chef come in and prepare a Bahamian meal which was wonderful. The rooms were spacious, it was like being at home. This property was perfect for our family. Highly recommend for your stay in Eleuthera as the location is central on the island and easy to navigate to other areas.

We brought our children for their first visit to the Bahamas. Will stay here again for sure. Everything about the house is amazing. The ride to town is very short. Go eat at Tippy's and Bucaneer's. Seaside Slice of Paradise!
This home is just so lovely. Clearly lived in and created with love and thoughtfulness. The crafty art, decorations and décor make it feel like a home away from home. The beach is great, with so many other options very close by for both Atlantic and Caribbean sides.
Food and entertainment are close and the proximity to the airport really makes it so easy to get in and out privately.
Thank you Sallie so much for the use of your home, I hope you get to come back soon!

Cares Away is a spacious, well-equipped house with a gorgeous view and a lovely little beach. It is centrally located near Governor's Harbour, our favorite town in Eleuthera. Sallie is a super host-- concerned and communicative. Unfortunately, we encountered a number of problems with the septic system, drinking water, Wi-Fi and TV. Sallie and the wonderful caretakers all worked to fix the issues, but island life over a holiday week moves slowly. If not for these problems, we would have given this house 5 stars.

If Eleuthera is your style, this place is perfect. A nice home on a beach with only a handful of houses, with a yard and home that are very private. And the beach is too, since we only saw a couple of people all week on the beach.
We stayed a week, and it was incredible. The home is nice, with all the amenities you need, and Sallie's instructions, guidebook, and help were all excellent. It made it so easy to find what we needed on the island (which isn't easy without it). The location of the house itself is central to the island so you can travel north or south, and not too far from Governor's Harbour if you need to resupply.
The screened in porches are wonderful when there's a breeze, as is the back porch and yard, depending on the time of day (dusk does generally bring the bugs). The deck is the same, and just serene watching and listening to the ocean. But the real prize here is the actual beach itself. Walk down the stairs to a nice cabana where you can sit and read and listen to and watch the ocean. Or walk right into gorgeous clear water to cool off. And the snorkeling is incredible, so much to see just right behind the house (follow Sallie's instructions for the best spots).
We went to several spots on the island, and were so grateful we ended up at CaresAway. It was better than any other spot we visited. And the name is for real, we left all of our cares behind.

Amazing Home on Beautiful Island
This is an amazing home and location on a beautiful island!
Great hilltop patio and upper deck looking due east for spectacular sunrises.
Secluded, sandy, private beach with plenty of toys for the water.
Bedrooms are very comfortable and spacious with views of the water.
This was our first trip to Eleuthera and won't be our last.
The owners and caretakers were very attentive and courteous.
Highly recommend this property.

Paradise
We really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home with gorgeous views on a lovely beach. A great ocean breeze to sooth the soul! The kitchen is well stocked, lots of linens and clean. Convenient location, close to restaurants and Govenor’s Harbor. Highly recommend a stay here!

Perfect
This was our fourth visit to Eleutherea so we thought we knew what to expect but CaresAway exceeded expectations. Everything about the home and property just simply works perfectly for a comfortable, very easy island retreat. Even the cross breeze from the ocean-facing patio and out the front door was perfect. Plus, Sallie was a delight. Easy to communicate with and responsive. The only thing we wanted for was more time.

Pure Paradise!
Thank you Sallie & Mike for sharing your lovely home. It was perfect for our group of 5. The location is great and the beach is perfection. This was my 6th visit to Eleuthera and as always, I hated to leave! Cares Away's caretaker IJ is such a kind man. We rented a car from IJ and had a dinner prepared by his wife Rosemary. If you want a delicious authentic Bahamian meal, Rosemary's food will not disappoint! She also baked a beautiful and delicious birthday cake for my daughter. Such a wonderful trip to our favorite island!

Perfect house / perfect vacation
The name says it all...our cares literally melted away from the moment we walked in the door. Can't say enough about this gorgeous spot. We are so happy to have stayed here, and instantly fell in love with both the house and Eleuthera itself. The house is roomy, spacious, and gracious, with the all privacy and amenities you would expect at your fingertips. We found ourselves able to relax on a vacation for the first time in a long time. The beach is beautiful, and practically deserted. The surf provides a constant white-noise backdrop that lulls you into tranquility, and you can hear and feel the breeze while sleeping with the windows open. Outdoor showers to rinse off after a splash in the ocean. Ocean kayaks and snorkel gear provide the mixings for exploring the reefs right offshore. Comfortable furnishings that entice you to simply relax...the list goes on. We will be back! Thanks, Sallie!

A little piece of paradise
What an amazing property! We are already plotting our return. The 3 bedroom house was perfect for our 2 families as all 4 kids had their own bed in the bunk room. The deck overlooking the beach was great for beach gazing during the day and star gazing at night. The kids were mesmerized by the snorkeling right on our beach and we came home with several conch shells that they discovered in the water. Governor's Harbor was a nice central location to serve as a home base as we explored both ends of the island. 1 hour to the ferry to Spanish Wells. 1.5 hours to Lighthouse beach which is a must see if you travel to Eleuthera. It deserves mention that there is a fun little beach bar that is a short walk across the rocks on the beach, but it's hours are at the whim of the owner. We hope to make it back while this beautiful island remains unspoiled by tourism.

Just go there.
Stop your search and just book it. We've been there twice with our small children. Bring your family... Your kids will eat their vegetables. Your baby will sleep through the night. You and your husband will achieve zen enlightenment through sand and shell meditations. Well, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit but it will be wonderful. The beach is perfect. The house is perfect. The owners are great.

Amazing!!
We loved CaresAway!! The location, the house, the beach and the ocean. The layout of the house is perfect and the kitchen well supplied. We traveled to many beaches and always came back saying "Our beach is the best"!! The location close to Governor's Harbor is great for groceries, restaurants, and fantastic people. We were so impressed by how friendly and kind everyone was!! We plan to return and we highly recommend CaresAway!!

Wonder place to bring your kids
The house is well organized, and very kid friendly. There are so many places to relax and cozy up with a book. We loved every minute of our stay. The owners were responsive and made sure all of our needs were met. We will be back!!!

Beautiful home on a beautiful beach
This is the perfect house for families who love the beach. We stayed at Cares' Away (for the second time) with our three children for three weeks. The house is well-appointed with beautiful views and a gorgeous beach. It is also conveniently located to access grocery stores, restaurants, etc within a short driving distance on the island. We would highly recommend this property.

Wonderful Place!
I realized now that I never reviewed Caresaway after our return last year and it definitely deserves one! We were on our Spring Break and it was our first excursion to Eleuthera. The house and it's location was the perfect introduction to this very unique and beautiful Bahama family island. The location of Caresaway is really ideal. It sits above a pristine pink sand beach with steps down to a rustic cabana. You can walk the beach in either direction for miles or simply swim and snorkel right in front of the house. I found the reefs in front of the house to be fun and some of the best I visited. You are also close enough to town that a trip there takes very little time. The house itself is beautiful, private, and laid out with an eye toward the view (incredible!) and ample inviting spaces. The house had everything you could want in the kitchen, bathrooms, common areas and bedrooms. We awoke to sunrises out the bedroom windows and fell asleep to the sounds of the waves. The owners and the caretaker were very helpful and made the logistics of the trip a breeze. We hope to return soon to Caresaway and would encourage anyone who wants a perfect spot to relax on a perfect beach to do so here!

Perfect!
We had a perfect vacation at Cares Away. The breeze kept the main air conditioner off and the no seeums away. The house is large and comfortable. The beach is quite beautiful. My family hates sand but the Pink Sand is honestly like a day at the spa. It is really soft and washes away easily. I really thought I'd prefer the calm light blue Caribbean waters but the insistence of the Atlantic is mesmerizing, and much more fun to swim in. If Caribbean is the way to go, then Alabaster Bay is just about 3 minutes away. The location of this home is perfect. Our fondest memory is of sitting in the chairs under the palms and staring at the stars. Magnificent!

Vacation Paradise
We can’t believe our visit to CaresAway is over so soon. This was our fifth trip and it seemed like the first. There is so much to see and do and explore. Each sunrise (right from the lanai off the bedroom) and sunset is unique and breathtaking. The sandy beaches seem to change each day as the tides change. One thing that does not change is the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic that we can wade into right in front of the house. CaresAway is so homey and comfortable, with everything you could think that you need. The porches and lanais offer comfortable, cool places to sit to read a book or just watch and listen to the ocean. We are already counting the days until our trip to Paradise next year.

Pictures in no way do the property justice...
I scoured the pictures of CaresAway after the caretaker (Isreal Johnson) encouraged me to stay there. I just returned from a week there and can say for certain, that it is impossible to describe the house, or adequately do it justice with pictures and words. A few notes about the house -
1. Don't pay for a Bonefish guide until check out the sandy flats in front of the house first - loaded with Bonefish. Oooops... LOADED I should say...
2. There is always the worry that something is not mentioned, or something missing from the house - do not worry - the best caretaker on the island and a VERY attentive owner are super responsive should anything come up. (Thanx Sallie!!)
3. Accommodations. We had 3 couples. Easy. Had room to spare.
4. No matter what you have planned, plan at least 2 days to scour the beach at CaresAway and do nothing but sit back and relax and enjoy the property and accommodations.
5. Lastly, Try and plan on cooking dinner at the house at least 1 night. The whole house is built around togetherness - whether family and/or friends travel with you, dine 1 time together. It'll be more memorable than the best restaurant on Eleuthera.

Cares Away
Cares Away is a great house on a great beach. Mij wife and I stayed 16 days after we rented another house on Club Med Beach in Eleuthera. We only saw six people during our stay.
The house is beautiful situated and is very clean. The beds are a little bit small, but the kitchen is well equipped. We didn't watch television (what's the point when staying in such a beautiful place?).
Eleuthera is a great island. We're from Europe, but the beaches and friendly people are unique in the world. After visiting Eleuthera and Harbour Island 14 times since 1998, we don't want to spend our vacation elsewhere.

A Dream Becomes A Reality!!
Once you leave the hustle and bustle of Nassau and take the short flight to Governour's Harbour......Peace awaits. As soon as you take the left into the driveway, you realize you made the right choice. Lizards await you as you make your way up the steps. Then it hits you, this house is PERFECT. From the layout to the decor. I was traveling with my wife, my 5 yr. old son, 2 yr. old daughter, sister in law, and both my parents, and we still had plenty of space to roam. But by far the best room in the house is the huge screened in porch. By day, a wonderful place to eat, read, or swing. By night, it became the center for many battles of Apples to Apples! The sound of the ocean and the wonderful breeze add a majical backdrop. The kitchen, laundry room and towel closet are all very well equipped. As was the dvd library, books, games, puzzles, snorkel gear..ect....Sallie and Mike have really thought of everything to make a family feel right at home the second they step through the door. I haven't even mentioned the best part yet, the beach. perfect for kids and still fun for adults. With an everpresent daily wind, we encountered perfect waves. Not too rough, yet keeps you entertained! My son LOVED the waves. During our nearly two week stay, we encountered a total of three people on the beach. The owner of the house next door, Da Villa, was one of them, and he is a wonderful guy. Other than that, we had the whole entire beach to ourselves all day, and for us...that was perfect!! We went on many little "adventures"....finding beaches, shelling, and just plain exploring. Yet everyday, we came back to the house always saying.."this is the best beach on the island". All the "towns" in eleuthera are quite charming, with grocery stores, shops and good restaraunts. Going out can get very pricey quickly,(especaily with 7 people) so If you don't mind cooking I suggest going to the north eleuthera "Shopping Center". It has everything you need at a reasonable price, no 11$ gallon of milk, like we got at the local stores. If you are looking for a good shelling spot, the spot Sallie suggest in her wonderful "guest guide" was the best spot!!, thanks Sallie, for the tip. Soooo. in conclusion, if you are looking to get away from it all and still have a great time, stop looking, this is the spot...and we will be back next year!! Zach, Linda, Xander, Cordelia Tufts. A Wonderful, Relaxing Place
CaresAway, what a wonderful, beautiful, and, as the name implies, a carefree place to spend some time. We really enjoy the cool breezes that blow over the dune, the wide sandy beach and the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic, right in front of CaresAway. CaresAway is very inviting and peaceful, with all the comforts of home. We find it especially peaceful to go to bed with the windows open, listening to the sound of the ocean. We love waking up to beautiful sun rises that greet us from the porch or the beach in front of the house. There are numerous beaches on either side of the island where we enjoy swimming, snorkeling, searching for shells, sand dollars, and sea glass or just relaxing with a good book. After a day on the beach or a fun filled day of exploring the island, it is always a treat to take a short walk across the island to see the sunset over the Caribbean. And the best part, we get to do it again the next day.
