Oak Tree Inn

The Oak Tree Inn is an interesting setup in Balmaha, right on Loch Lomond, offering several very different types of accommodation. There's the main house with classic hotel rooms, cottages for those who want a whole small house to themselves, and pods, which is what we stayed in. These are small separate units, a bit like a smart container, and ours was very new, nicely furnished and in a quiet corner of the grounds. It felt like a genuinely nice place to stay, well maintained and finished to a high standard as far as we could tell. The restaurant serves good, solid local Scottish food, including freshly poured beer straight from the tap, and dinner there in the evening was tasty. There's occasional live music, which can make things a bit louder nearby, though this wasn't an issue at all for us given how quiet our pod's location was. There's also a small on-site cafe with its own roasted coffee, and the same coffee is provided in the room to make yourself. Overall this is more of a larger, busier operation than a romantic boutique hotel, with different accommodation options to choose from depending on what you're after. We saw that as an advantage rather than a downside. For a stay by Loch Lomond, it's a pleasant location, and the pods in particular are a good recommendation if you want something a bit different with the comforts of a regular hotel room.

Breakfast was fairly average, a buffet only, with no option to order anything extra. It felt geared towards handling a larger volume of guests rather than anything special, which wasn't a real problem, just not particularly memorable.

The staff is so friendly and helpful the location is perfect,right on the shores of Loch Lomond. This was a perfect place to begin our time in Scotland

My complaints are minimal. The room was a little small to manage 2 large suitcases

No wardrobe in room. Had to keep clothes in a suitcase.

Staff were excellent. Room very clean. Food and service good.

Paid a premium price (over £200) for a special occasion, but received a Travelodge type room, only smaller, in a pod! Very overpriced.
