Head of the River

Comfortable cosy room with high quality facilities, good air con, very clean. Fresh milk. Breakfast plentiful and interesting choices. Good atmosphere in pub and garden.

Staff were sometimes grumpy and a little rude. We put this down to how busy they were and mostly felt they did their best. However on check out (we checked out at about 11:10am having seen long queue at 11!) we were told in no uncertain terms that if the rest of the family were not out of their room by 11:30am we would be charged a late check out fee. That's fine but there are ways to explain these things with greater professionalism. Nobody asked if we had had a nice weekend, if everything was OK, just stated there would be an extra fee. This is not an inexpensive hotel and those final comments really spoilt an otherwise perfect and for us very rare treat. It doesn't cost anything to have manners,to be friendly and be interested in the guests. If that hadn't have happened review likely to have been 9/10.

The location was ideal with views of the river and the many varied boats cruising by. The room was comfortable and the shower was excellent!

Too many stairs to reach the third floor room, but staff helped with our luggage.
