The Old Hall Inn

Rustic pub. No airs and graces. Very friendly staff.

The sound proofing in the room wasn’t great so from early in the morning we could hear a lot of noise from other rooms and presumably staff coming and going below.

Excellent food! Atmosphere in Paper Mill Inn on both nights we were there was brilliant! Highly recommend!

Everything was great

The staff were wonderful, friendly, and couldn’t do enough for us throughout our stay. The atmosphere was wonderfully quiet, relaxing, and set in beautiful surroundings. The room was lovely, clean, spacious, and very well-equipped with tea, coffee, and complimentary toiletries. Breakfast: Sublime with a great choice of continental and cooked options (the smoked beans are a unique touch!) Pizzas: Outstanding—quite literally the best pizzas we’ve ever had! Old Hall Dining: Incredible main meals (the Scotch egg, lamb wellington, duck, and sticky toffee pudding were huge highlights). A fantastic hidden gem—we’d return in a heartbeat!

Nothing to do with the hotel itself! The only hiccup was the fire alarm going off on our first morning, which gave us a bit of a surprise jump out of bed and a twinge to the back a week after spinal surgery otherwise, the entire stay was absolutely perfect!

It has a lot of character. It is in 2 old buildings, one was an old hall and the other was a paper mill. It is in a beautiful part of the country, in the Peak District National Park.

Difficult to find a parking space at weekends. The room was noisy as above the bars. The room was cold, and the radiators and the towel rail could not be turned on. The quality of the food could be improved. The staff were friendly and helpful, though.
