In recovering a rucksack misplaced by me in the centre of Funchal, Pedro, the owner-manager, went way beyond the standards of service so often praised in these comments. For those who want accommodation essentially alfresco rather than within an air-conditioned concrete box - the Vila Lusitânia is the place to stay. Its location, contraction and facilities are in harmony with Madeira's unique climate and geology. Where better to practise dolce far niete than on the sunlit terrace next to the swimming pool, with its wide sea view, and a book taken from the little library next to the reception?

For me there is nothing to complain about.

Bereits kurz nach unserer Ankunft war die Enttäuschung groß. Das angebotene Zimmer 407 war extrem klein, abgewohnt und sollte dringend renoviert werden. Zudem war es extrem heiß und der Geruch war super unangenehm. Das Zimmer hat nicht das entfernteste mit den Fotos und dem Angebot auf booking.com zu tun. Wir sind entsprechend mit der Empfangsdame ins Gespräch gegangen. Das Personal war freundlich und half uns ein größeres Zimmer zu bekommen. Der bauliche Zustand des 2. Zimmers, Raum 102, war leider ebenfalls nicht besser. Es war deutlich größer, jedoch war ein derart riesiger Riss in der Wand, dass man Angst haben musste, dass das Zimmer jeden Moment einfällt. Darüber hinaus war das Zimmer extrem dreckig, Spinnen und Spinnweben sowie Ameisen überall an den Wänden. Die Krönung war dann noch eine Kakerlake im Badezimmer. Das war’s, wir wollten am liebsten sofort abreisen, leider ist die Rezeption grundsätzlich nur bis 17 Uhr besetzt. Wir erreichten das Personal nur noch telefonisch, jedoch konnte oder wollte man uns in dieser Situation nicht helfen und verwies uns auf den nächsten Tag. Nach kurzer Diskussion am nächsten Morgen bekamen wir erneut ein anderes Zimmer zugewiesen. Raum 406. Wir hatten zu diesem Zeitpunkt weder Kraft noch Lust uns weiter zu streiten und willigten ein, dass Zimmer zu „probieren“. Es schien besser als das Kellerzimmer oder als das erste Zimmer zu sein, jedoch war auch hier nicht die versprochene Leistung zu sehen. Am Abend saßen wir noch ein bisschen vor unserer Tür. Im Minutentakt kamen Kakerlaken aus den riesigen Rissen auf der Veranda und über die Brüstung. Ein ähnliches Spiel sollte sich jeden Abend wiederholen. Zudem kam noch der elend schlechte Geruch aus dem Abfluss der Dusche. Beim nächtligen Toilettengang hätte man sich direkt noch übergeben können. Das Frühstück (nur auf Zuteilung) war ungenießbar und von schlechtester Qualität. Die große Anzahl an Ameisen im Zimmer, im Bett, im Schrank und im Bad taten ihr übriges.

Good location, near shops and restaurants. The property has a beautiful view overlooking the ocean. Nice breakfast and pool area. The room was cleaned and organised everyday by the staff.

Nice view of the sea from the breakfast area. Breakfast is well worth the price (6 euros). A nice mix of breads and toppings, cereals, minimal English breakfast (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages), fresh fruit and vegetables, coffee, tea, juices, and cake. Not too lavish, but very satisfying nonetheless. Was helped well by reception staff. They helped me book a hike, offered restaurants, and offered late checkout. The room service was good. Every day the room was cleaned while leaving personal belongings in their original place. My room was in good shape and clean. Located within walking distance of both the Sao Martinho coast and Funchal city center. Overall great value for the money!

There were not many facilities. But that is to be expected of a 3-star hotel. The wifi reception dropped out sometimes. But this was just temporary and not an issue.

Das Badezimmer war dreckig und die Lüftung sehr laut. Die Lage des Hotels war gut, aber an einem sehr steilen Berg. Leider war es sehr hellhörig und man konnte alle Leute im Flur hören.

Die ist Lage ok, der Ausblick wunderschön, und das Servicepersonal sehr kompetent und entgegenkommend.

Auf den ersten Blick sieht das Hotel wie auf den Bildern aus. Auf den zweiten Blick, wenn man weiß was man für eine Woche bezahlt hat, sieht es leider nicht sehr toll aus. Wir hatten ein Zimmer in dem im Badezimmer die Duschbrause, der zugehörige Verstell-Henkel, der Abflussdeckel kaputt waren sowie unzählige Ameisen uns entgegen geschwommen sind. Im Schlafzimmer waren beide Bettlampen kaputt und die Balkontür auch nicht richtig verschließbar. Wir haben am nächsten Tag ein anderes Zimmer erhalten, dieses hatte aber auch grobe Mängel die aber sofort vom Hausmeister gerichtet wurden. Trotzdem gehören in jedem Zimmer, zerschlagene Insekten, Schimmel sowie Wasserflecken+Risse an den Wänden zum Inventar dazu. Die Zimmer sind in einem veralteten Zustand und könnten eine Modernisierung vertragen. Es gibt keine Klimaanlage (nur ein Ventilator) und Kühlschrank (zumindest in unseren Zimmern). Aber wenn ich in Urlaub fahre und 800Euro dafür aufbringe, möchte ich ein Zimmer dass den einfachen Standards entsprechend funktioniert. Dafür zahle ich nicht so viel um mich täglich selbst drum kümmern zu müssen, dass die notwendigen Dinge klappen. Die zusehenden Bilder auf der Website zeigen werbetechnisch gesehen das Beste. Geldlich gesehen aber nicht dass was es zum Schluss verspricht. Es wäre von Vorteil wenn der Hausmeister, die Servicekraft die Mängel bei täglicher Begehung melden und reparieren würden. Das Frühstück ist auf Sparkurs gehalten, und auch täglich dasselbe. Man merkte dass es sich um kein qualitatives Frühstück handelte. Zur Lage: ca. 30minuten zu Fuß von der Innenstadt Funchal entfernt und liegt auf einer höheren Lage. Für Leute die Geräuschempfindlich sind, ist dieses Hotel nicht zu empfehlen da es ab einer vielbefahrenen Straße liegt, oder die Gehprobleme aufweisen (dafür kann aber das Hotel nichts).

Beautiful place with pool, outdoor shower, great terrace and very comfy rooms. Staff is very friendly and everything was super clean and well maintained.

The breakfast was 9 euros per person and in my opinion not worth the money. There is no fresh juice, there are scrambled eggs but with mushrooms from a can and just limited choices. You can't get your own food and you have to ask for a staff member to hand it over to you. It could be cheaper or make it worth it :)

I was visiting with my friend. We loved the pool, the view and the garden with beautifull bougainville, Palm and mangotrees. The room was very clean and was cleaned Every dat. You van easily park your car. We booked a room without a view. I did not realise that you get a balcony with that view. I definitely advise To book with a balcony, that seemed so Nice!! I think the price was Good for what you get, I would recommend To stay there!

If you don't have a car it is a 20 minute walk To the Old town. 2 of 3 steep streets down there are lots of restaurants as well. We did miss the airconditioning, it became quite hot during the Night. Breakfast was Nice, we loved the fresh melon, but otherwise it was not great (we are a bit spoiled: but we would like fresh orange juice (this was more like lemonade), Bread that is crunchy and I like To be able to choose a type of egg. We had breakfast one day only, there were scrambled eggs that day.

The place was very clean, they provided a lovely room which was cleaned daily. Pool towels are provided so there no need to use your own which I thought was a brilliant idea. Staff were incredibly helpful and always wanting to do the best they could.

The only issue that we had with the property was there was no fridge or anything to keep things cold in the rooms, especially water in the peak of summer so sort of communal fridge after the hours of 8-17pm would have been amazing. There was also no air conditioning but fans were provided.

Booked this property through booking.com. informed them that I will be traveling with kids. Gave us a room in front of the pool with no fence. With a toddler that was an extremely dangerous situation. Refused to move us to another room. When we contacted him to inform him we couldn't stay, didn't pick up our calls or respond to our messages. Refused us a refund. We didn't leave just because, we left as they put us in a very dangerous situation. Awful customer service. Ruined our trip and robbed us of our money. Will not recommend to anyone to stay here.

Very friendly and informative reception staff. We were given all the information about all the events happening nearby during our stay. Nice and tidy room. Nice view through the window. Good location and quite easy parking. Could not ask much more for the price paid.

I would definitely stay at this villa again and would recommend it. Even before we left, I got all the information we needed to know about the place. It's worth noting that the staff accommodated all of our requests for a bed. I was also pleasantly surprised that one day the workers were working loudly, but when they found out we were in the room, they apologized and stopped working so as not to disturb us. So we really appreciated the understanding from the staff, and they are really client oriented. Our room was large, clean, with enough light, wardrobes, and sockets. Breakfasts were good enough too. However, one thing we found a bit strange that you cannot serve your breakfast by yourself as usual (because it looks like a buffet breakfast) but you need to ask the stuff to put on your plate this or that dish. Overall, we had a very good time there and sincerely recommend this villa.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and they couldn't have done a better job. The room was adequate: plenty of space to store our belongings, good beds and pillows, and a decent bathroom. Cleaning was done daily, which made it all the nicer coming back from those long and tiring walks. The location of the hotel is also very good: near lots of good restaurants, and also not too far from the seafront.

The only "really" disappointing part was the breakfast: freshly baked rolls were an exception, the coffee wasn't really good, and the meats were quite fatty. However, I don't think you could've eaten anywhere else for that price. It wasn't great, but not terrible either.

The fact that there was no hairdryer, kettle/drinks making facility at the room or ironing board which is something we are used to but perhaps shouldn't expect from a 3*** accommodation. Also, toilet cistern was faulty and we had to jig it to motion to fill up after every flush.

Nice accomodation with possibility of using the swimming pool which was nice. Pretty nice location, not very close to the centre but it is possible to walk there pretty nicely (but it is little uphill).

The breakfast was served by different way than I am used to. We had to ask the employees to give us the ham, eggs, tomato etc.... I guess it has some reason.

Everything was old and tired, cracks in the bathroom sinks and toilets, thin linens, shower didn’t drain, hot water was scarce. No ice No fridge No coffee. There was no where to be comfortable. There were too many rules about what to touch and what to put where etc etc. I felt I was in a camp and the director was always watching me. I would not recommend these accommodations and would not return.

I didn't like being served breakfast. I would have preferred to help myself. Also, not all items were labelled. The plumbing is a bit dodgy. The shower took forever to heat up The room felt too dark.
